Description
It was supposed to be a simple mission; escort a group fo refugees to the Commonwealth. It WAS a simple mission all told. But when it came time to go back, it seemed like everywhere she turned, Marian Holcombe found a new...complication. Between the long-lost family, the meddlesome mayor, the new-found friends, and a certain soft-boiled synth who just might end up being the most important person in her life Marian swiftly found herself tangled in a well-intentioned conspiracy to keep her alive and well and as far from the brewing war in the Capital. Now if she and Valentine can just keep from shooting each other...
Trigger Warning: Yes. This is a Fallout story, and I tried to stay with the feel of the game. I will do my best to label chapters with appropriate trigger warnings to help you decide which chapters you will be more comfortable skipping. That being said, I am human and if I miss something, please let me know so I can update accordingly.

- Anzani.TamRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have read many a tale on Royal Road in the last eight months, but Fallout: War Changes is the one that finally caused me to create an account -- so that I can say a heartfelt "thank you" to Draginta for a fascinating and compelling read. The characterization is fantastic, the dialogue is excellent, and the nuanced portrayal of many characters feels organic (ha ha), rather than a series of shoehorned-in Fallout wiki references or recreations of existing game scenes.
Rather than revel in grimdarkness like so many post-apocalyptic works, Fallout: War Changes chooses to shine its brightest light on the struggles -- and successes -- of the people who would seek their paths and truths. Feels weird to say that it's an uplifting read, but I am rooting for the Goodneighbor crew.
Pros: The prose never gets in the way. Dialogue is distinct between characters, and their traits are VERY distinct.
The trigger warnings are very useful -- Sometimes, it will help me decide if I want to inhale another few chapters, or pause for the night and come back to it recharged.
Each character is distinct and nuanced -- some more than others, but I always have the feeling that is more to each person than we are seeing onscreen. - NenhetoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Longer Title: I will go apocalyptic if you do not read this novel, and so will your family and even your extended family! Maybe even yourself after glimpsing the greatness in these hallowed internet chapter halls.
Style:
This fan-fiction religiously follows the themes of the Fallout series, so as expected it paints a picture of hardened survivors trying to make something out of a more-than bleak picture. Everything from the descriptions and the imagery provided really immerse you into this already established world, but with the way it is written and how wonderfully it has been, and also how the Author has put their own flairs on it, I think any non-fallout fan would be able to enjoy this as a unique post-apocalyptic novel.
Story:
The pacing and the structure of the story is honestly published book tier of goodness. Plot points are clearly laid out, as long as you know what you're looking for, and the timing between scenes is very well-done. Timeskips are used unsparingly and you always get a brief overview of the time inbetween but they honestly act as a dopamine response since this story excels in character interactions and what's better than using time to progress things? I wanted to put 4 and a half stars for this, but that is purely opinion-based and would definitely be unfair (especially considering this would be the first advanced review) since it just is that good with handling and delivering the story to the reader, and offering insights and teasing them so you have to work for them too.
Grammar:
I am a huge stickler for grammar (a grammar-nerd) and just a lover of a diverse set of vocabulary in general. I'm one of those people who just love to learn new words and add it to their mental list of vocab. So with that said, I think it should say a lot that I think this novel is very good when it comes to grammar - especially since there hasn't been any feedback from what I can see about some errors I have seen. It barely happens within a chapter and even when i
