Description

Maeno is a boy whose magic talent has been limited since birth due to a curse he doesn't know how to break. The only clue he has about the curse is a flute that was found with him during a near death experience. The only spell he knows is gemari, a spell that allows him to borrow the properties of things he touches, but it only works on his familiar Xemi who isn't the best suited for combat. On his 18th birthday he sets out for Agadenma Academy, a school founded by the second Orlox of Dueling to train and scout out future Orlox; supreme mages who are the best in the world at their respective skills. When he arrives he finds out that Agadenma Academy is filled with all kinds of people ages fourteen to eighty each with their own agendas. After enrolling in his first class he realizes that the curriculum isn't what he thought it was and that Agadenma Academy is home to some dark secrets that may prove to be too much for Maeno to handle alone. Will Maeno manage to find his place at this chaotic school or has he finally bitten off more than he can chew?

I’ve really enjoyed reading this story, and I find the characters to be so interesting! I have to say, XEMI is my absolute favorite so far her personalty is hilariously cute and really draws me in. While there are a few grammar tweaks that could help, overall, it’s a fun read!
I love how the world-building brings everything to life. The way you describe the settings truly pulls me into the story, making it easy to get lost in this fascinating world.
I appreciate how the chapters sometimes switch between different characters at unexpected moments, but the story is woven together well enough I haven't gotten lost yet. I’m really curious to learn more about Xemi’s background and hope to see her get more spotlight. Azira’s chapters are also a highlight for me, and I can't wait to see more of her story unfold.
The Orlox characters add a unique flavor to the plot, some of them are snooty and you can't help, but hate, but other Orlox are entertaining to read about! I think that the idea of an Orlox is a neat concept to explore.
The book starts off a little slow, but after a few chapters it picks up more. Overall I'd say I'm really enjoying this book and can't wait to read more.
Keep up the great work, Author! I’m really looking forward to seeing where this journey ends up at. You've got a good story going here so don't give up!
