Synopsis

Humanity may have been torn from its home-world, but its spirit remains unbroken.

In the far-flung corners of the country sticks Brand and Tommen get out of their small town while they still can, both on two separate missions. In this strange land full of dangerous Databeasts survival is no guarantee and they'll have to stick together if they want to accomplish their goals. For Brand, that means finding his childhood friends. For Tommen that means becoming a great Databeast tamer. Both wish to be adventurers like the world of Excoria has never seen.

The goal of every adventurer is the same. To gain levels, attune element stones, and wield the awesome power of Databeasts for themselves as companions. It's a straightforward but highly dangerous life.

Throughout this they'll explore mysterious and uncharted lands joined by distinctive characters, whilst facing down the many civilizational crises threatening humanity and being doggedly hunted by those who would put the two young men back in their cage.

Endless Excursion is a masterclass in character-driven LitRPG storytelling. From the very first chapter, I was captivated by the vast and enigmatic world of Excoria and its fascinating Databeast system. The story follows Brand and Tommen, friends who are thrown together by fate into wild adventure from the first Chapter.
It's the distinct personalities and motivations, neatly woven into the upwards narrative, which go a long way to make this such a fun read. The relationship between the two (and all the other characters met along the way) is cemented by the savage danger in the world and offers compelling, relatable stakes.
The author's writing style strikes a perfect balance between vivid descriptions and gripping action. At times, they let the story breathe, and these comfy and touching slow-burn, slice-of-life moments swell up in a really organic way, allowing us to connect with the characters and their journey.
The worldbuilding is top-notch, with intricate lore about the Databeasts and their evolution system — by Chapter 5, the mystery surrounding these creatures really takes off, and each new introduction is bright and vivid and catches the imagination.
In fact, specifically in Chapter 6 there's a few paragraphs that paint this great picture of how incredible the relationship between humans and Databeasts can be. It describes a partnership between a pilot, an adventurer, and his Phantplasmagora, flying through the sky and using the auroras to power batteries which the pilot would then sell. It's such a great little titbit, evocative of Ghibli adventures, that gives so much life to the world.
Grammar and structure are flawless, with clean, easy-to-follow prose that packs an massive, almost shocking emotional punch at times, and the cliffhangers (at least for now) just add to it. The dialogue in particular flows naturally from each character's mouth, with every conversation giving more insight into the world and the characters' motivations. The characters' growt

Once he does, he and his friend Tommen, have the opportunity to explore the wild world beyond the walls of their town.
The story's world and style reminds me of Jade Cocoon and Azure Dreams, in that you can fight alongside your monsters, something which doesn't occur in the standard Pokémon or Monster Rancher games. Without going into spoilers, EE offers a tale of hope, dreams and adventure, while also darkness.
One of the largest intrigues of the story is the Databeasts themselves and why they act the way they do. You're drip fed them initially, but around Chapter 3 is when they start seeing more appearances of them, and they're much welcomed.
