Emmy And Me

Description
A young woman meets a new student at school and has her world turned upside down, leading her into a future she could never have possibly imagined for herself. As the two build a life together, unanticipated events shape and change the two of them in many ways. With time, the two achieve great heights of wealth and fame, but at serious personal cost. Life is a series of ups and downs, and Emmy and Leah experience extreme highs and extreme lows during the course of the story. It is not my intention to simply write an emotional rollercoaster, but many readers have found the tragic parts of the story to be too much for them. I hope that any reader who chooses to read Emmy And Me to the end (and yes, there will be a definite end) will find the journey rewarding, through all the joys and the sorrows. WARNING: This story includes descriptions of sexuality between women. If this isn't something you want to read, or is illegal where you live, please enjoy one of the thousands of other stories here on Royal Road. It also contains violence, both perpetrated by our main characters and against them. Although infrequent, it is an important part of the story and can be quite sudden and shocking.

- TorenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story caught me off guard.
Definitely not the usual litrpg or litrpg adjacent I'm used to seeing and reading on this website.
I want to say it was the cover photo that got me to click the link, but it was the main characters that drew me in.
I wanted to figure out the mystery of Emmy right alongside Leah.
By the time it took for that to even start to come to light, I was long since hooked. - W4ff1eHereRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love the Slice of life storyline without too much drama. Im always looking forward to new chapters.
I can't wait to see where the storyline goes and it is by far one od my favorite novels.
Need more words unfortunately, this is tragic. A lot more words apparently. - CamelbakKillerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Flawless writing, incredible character development, and fascinating twist (that I'm still figuring out) for the main characters. I'm having a great time on this journey - it's been a non-stop binge session so far and I have five more days of PTO to try to catch up. Also, pancake scenes are well syruped without too much spice or sugar :)
- ComfyEchosRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Can't put my phone down this is a must read. Every single character is someone who you feel is real and that you can empathize with.
If you like romance (cheesy sometimes). This is the fiction for you!
Read the entire RR releases in 2 days, every chapter making me want to read more.
Just the right amount of sexy chapters, not too much or too little.
If you cry easy like myself have a box of issues ready! - Darkness that feast upon weakRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Emmy and Me is a character driven romance story about love between two young women. This kind of a story rises and falls with the characters and this one will surely rise high.
The main characters of the story, Emmy and Leah, are interesting and if you like them you will probably like the story they tell.
Emmy is a daring sheltered rich kid coming from France and discovering the wonders of world for the first time
Leah is picked by the school administration to show Emmy around the school, she is the school’s star athlete all the while manting great grades in academics.
The side characters such as their family and friends are done well as well, and change with the flow of the story.
The story is a story of love between two young and everything that comes with it, but without angst. Emmy and Leah fell into their own pace rather easily, there is no uncertainty about their love for each other or future they will share together.
The grammar is good as well, if there are some mistakes there are little ones that can be fixed in a second.
Give it a try and see if you like it. - EleeyahRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0With the recent chapters, I'm comfortable giving this story a five star rating.
Grammatically it's about perfect. Gen loves to adapt to useful feedback, and typos or sentence structural issues are immediately corrected.
The characters are consistent and interesting, I have no problems with them. They differ, they each have their own voices, and there's no bleed between them.
The story itself is sprawling and has ups and downs, tension and relief. There's entire lines of plot that have yet to be resolved and promise lots of engagement. Simple or basic, this story is not.
Style, I think, might be Gen's weakest point; the viewpoint is exclusively Leahs. Combine that with any reader's tendency to read the author's words through our own filters, our own experiences, and I disconnected from Leah without realizing it. She wasn't who I thought she was based on what I was reading.
Character decisions stopped making sense, actions taken or not taken didn't always seem reasonable. It was only Gen's answers to comments helped me find the information I needed, such as Leah's complete lack of introspection, to reconnect to her, to start making sense of her again.
That these pieces of knowledge had to be shared outside the story did always highlight the same problem: Single POV stories tend to lead a reader astray without them realising it - there just isn't enough feedback through the thoughts of other characters to help correct a flawed understanding of a character.
But Gen does eventually hit her stride, and the quality of her writing has much improved above those early day issues. She's no longer a three or four star writer, and displays much more nuance in her control over Leah's POV. I found it fair to update my rating accordingly.
Yet those early chapters still exist, and any new reader, or repeat reader, needs to go through them. This is my fair warning to you. :)
It's worth it, once you're past those early bits.
- editing reason: Didn't like how I was expressing myself. T - It91111Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story brings together great characters and takes the time to really develop them and the world. I enjoyed reading about the characters and getting to see the growth of not just the main characters but all the fascinating and whole people in the world around them. This story pulled me in from the start and I still look foward to every update!
- AldousRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a great coming-of-age, slow-burn romance story with a relatable lead and intriguing undertones of fantasy. You should read this if you like realistic F/F romance, including lesfic. While suitable for YA audiences, it also feels adult-appropriate. The story is very different to typical Royal Road, but you should try it anyway.
Story
You should not come in expecting action-packed fantasy violence - this is more of a slice-of-life story and is firmly grounded in the real world (starting a few years ago, not that far away). The fantasy elements are built up to gradually and only hinted at for much of the story (so far). The author references cultural milestones and real places, helping to make the story relatable.
Style
The author consistently demonstrates strong technical ability in constructing believable scenarios and joining them together.
Grammar
Grammar and spelling are consistently good, by any standard (not just for RR). As a semi-pro proofreader, I find very little to comment on, which is often not the case for published books (good job, GU!).
Character
The characterisation is especially strong, with the lead and supporting characters being fully fleshed out and having relatable, individual motivations and dynamics. I'm especially impressed by dialogue, which demonstrates individual accents and speech patterns.
Quit reading reviews and go read the story! - NephRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly the hardest part about reading this is letting chapters pile up so I can spend a day or three reading it!
On to a couple quick thoughts.
It is a slice of life story and not everybody's cup of tea but if it is up your alley, you will have a very hard time putting it down. The author is dedicated to the story, has tonnes of background knowledge that teaches shows a passion that extends past a wiki page and is able to write what I think are some pretty complicated characters whilst making you believe they exist. This is by far what I appreciate the most after reading so many other webserials of the same genre.
All in all kudos to the author I starter this when it was still in its high-school arc and have been letting chapters pile up over time so I can disappear into generic_user's world! Also one of the only stories I have personally recommended to anyone.
I have never had any issues with grammar and cannot point out any spelling errors that I can recall.
Story wise the twists and turns that their lives follow are a lot of fun and it has kept me on my toes for a long time. I like the pacing and you can definitely see the author understands when to move the plot and when to slow it down.
That should be 200 words of drivel to leave a much deserved 5 star review... let's break top 200 shall we? - Nephilim CowRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am going to be honest I don't typically pick up picks of this genre but it had a lot of pages to it and the description was intriguing. So I gave it a shot and as my title said just wow.
I don't typically review many books, don't really know how to go about it so bear with me. The characters in this story are so hard not to fall for they are so well flushed out and multi dimensional constantly growing with you. I find a lot of stories on here you just lose site of who the character is then spend chapters trying to find them again. The main character Leah has a couple moments where I was lost a bit but with the authors world building and focus on detail of who the characters surround themselves with it is almost fun to be that lost because you know you will get your answers you just have to enjoy the ride.
The supporting characters in the story are also amazing you actually feel like you know then they just have so much depth and real personality it amazes me how much time the author must put in to make them feel like they could have their own story if you wanted!
The setting is another thing that has throughly impressed me, I am not american but have been to the states and a few locations referenced and it is super cool to see the level of detail that the author puts in to them because I now can picture then through the authors eyes.
Lastly the plot, it is a roller coaster the starting arc with them in high-school was the most painfully enjoyable thing out there you knew what was going to happen but there were just so many wrenches thrown into the plans along the way that I was constantly doubting what I knew to be true in the best way (it hurt) possible.
As I said I don't typically write reviews but this story here blew me away and I have not enjoyed a story for a while but this one became something more than a way to pass time and I will continue to follow it as long the author takes it even if it hurts at points because I trust the author has a reason for it al
