I love the details in the worldbuilding, and the way the characters feel fleshed out and real. The dynamic between characters who are each clearly meant to be individually sympathetic but are mildly antagonistic to each other feels like a real familial relationship, and the descriptions that utilize each of the senses are a delight.A promising start from an excellent author who has already written a wonderful complete adventure. I love the details in the worldbuilding, and the way the characters feel fleshed out and real. The dynamic between characters who are each clearly meant to be individually sympathetic but are mildly antagonistic to each other feels like a real familial relationship, and the descriptions that utilize each of the senses are a delight. I especially liked the focus on the particular inhuman element that each of the adults had deliberately begun to grow on themselves, and the contrast between the two younger characters who alternately wanted to follow on that same path and spoke of following another path entirely. The eldritch elements of unknowable details struck a wonderful balance between cosmic horror and the down to home family drama vibe that otherwise permeated the first few chapters. I'm very much looking forwards to seeing where this goes and I've added it to my followed stories. I expect great things, especially after reading all of Beers and Beards. I will warn that just of yet it is rather short and very little action has yet occurred, but if this is a concern to you I would advise to follow the story through the paid subscription, or else hit the follow button here and wait for a notification of a sufficiently high number to you, and read it then. Do not miss out on this. A promising start from an excellent author who has already written a wonderful complete adventure. I love the details in the worldbuilding, and the way the characters
- CannibalistixZombieRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far feels cozy and I like it, just not getting thr Eldritch vibes yet. Seems like its being worked towards though. Like the characters, and the MC seems to have terrible luck, but a lot of people believe in him and he works hard to overcome challenges. Seems like he has a nice family
- DrolefilleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a cozy cultivation story! I am really enjoying the crossing of a Canadian isekai with a local kid, both trying to figure out their path here. I like the relatively low stakes but they're balanced nicely by how much this all means to little Lee Song. Also I die for BongBong.
- GingerbreadConductorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story to date. It has a very solid sense of place as it explores the steppes of its China-esque land. Character work is also strong giving an impression of real people with real relationships. The use of the Lovecraft Mythos blended with fairly standard cultivation seems well worked out and should be a good engine for and obstacle to progression. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.
- Inky_AdventureRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I will be honest. This is totally different than the first story I read from him. But it is freaking just as amazing as the first. Here I am in the edge of my seat and wanting nothing more than devour these chapters. I am enjoying the story and the world building. Please keep up the amazing work!!

I'm loving this story. I started reading it as soon as CasualFarmer recommended it from his Beware of Chicken story. I am VERY excited to see Song's progress, and I love the duality of man that Cyrus and Song demostrate, each filling in the gaps of skill and knowledge of the other, making one whole out of two reflections. They're shaping up to be a great team.
You can also really feel the personality differences, not only between Song and Cyrus, but also between Song and the rest of his family just by the voices of the characters themselves.
I am eager to explore the world alongside Cyrus and Song as they take their first steps out into the greater narrative. Master Crane is proving most gracious and wise, and hunting Teacher An is an amazing badass.
I can hardly wait to read what's next. - Lauren AustinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great storyline, it flows well and the characters seem fleshed out. Please keep up the good work and know that I (a 36yr old new mom with little free time left) am very much enjoying your story herein Indianapolis, Indiana in the US. So thank you for this bit of fun.
- Lil_crafterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This feels like such a nice spin on such a histories genre that is murim/xianxia! The lore of the Great Ones combined with the readers own insights based on Cyrus’ and Song’s experiences give another layer to the already amazing world. The author does a great job bringing us into this world without just info dumping on us. Overall, I’d say this is a most enjoyable story and I hope to see more!
- NurienRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Greatly enjoying this particular twist on the "main character gets stuck sharing the body of someone from another world." The author makes great fun with the dialogue and interplay between the two main characters, and offers a gentle entry into the cultivation/progression genre for the uninitiated.
The pace (so far at least) is relaxed, but progress sufficient to make this more than slice of life, and promises more advances to come. I like the pacing.
The setting is welcoming, and hits the "cozy" descriptor well, while still offering risk and challenges to overcome. In the early stages, so the scope is fairly localized, but there are enough hints of a larger world to keep it believably grounded. - NyanDogeManRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great book, even though i just started reading i already cant wait for tge next chapter to come out.
Also next time you need more words post a chapter, you could either use lorum ipsum, or meme scripts like the bee movie or my personal favorite: the heavy is dead.
