Description

Choosing a college when your family is struggling can be difficult, but it isn’t supposed to be world ending. And the falling meteor is seriously limiting Matt’s options.

Now in the aftermath, his home city is locked down by a mysterious dome, corporations are looking to monopolize a wealth of new untapped resources, and people are suddenly developing powers via a system that seems to have borderline sinister intentions. In the chaos, he decides to stick to what he knows: stay out of the spotlight, grind, and survive.

Watch as Matt is dragged into a dark LITRPG set in the real world, where the price of failure is death, and the prize for winning is beyond his wildest dreams.

There’s a couple big influences here: Solo-Leveling, Squid Game, and Code Geass. If you enjoy LITRPG stories with morally gray characters, high stakes, and smart protagonists who start weak and eventually become powerful in a unique way, you’ll probably find something to like. But be forewarned. It won’t be easy.

When I write, I worry that my narrative is interesting and that my characters are unchallenged. Elios has somehow managed to stretch.... A single week? of in-story time into the most seething, sweating, constant burn of intense tension I have ever had the pleasure of reading on this site.
Yes, the protagonist has a Very Particular Set of Skills, but hey, that's fiction. The world is layered with shades of grey and self-awareness and societal outlooks that turn into a delicious croissant of fluffy claustrophobia - I want Matt to win, and I can't believe he will, because even the standard, 'local neighborhood wins' for another litrpg hero have put him in a wheelchair.
The next time I start a fiction, I am using this as a textbook. There are formulas in here that become as comforting as a chorus, and I need to splice that magic into my stories to be confident that instead of hackneyed prose, I am orbiting closer to the hold your breath razor edge that Double Blind has provided so far.
    Keep on going Matt!

I love this serie. I've listened to it as an audiobook. And its amazing, good story, good author, good reader and over 16 hours of goodness per book.
I find the main character likeable and believable, and the secondary characters different and independent individual enough so that there is a story going on in the background that doesn't always depend on the main character. It just makes the world more realistic. People with their own goal and lives not not just waiting to play a short role and disappear again.
The most compelling thing that really carries through is that there is a basic logic. Who knows what and what, what has to be kept secret, how people react to situations, etc. And ists complicated, i am impressed, that Eligros can keep it in his head xD
The only thing that bothered me a bit in the beginning is that the main character doesn't seems to sleep or rest at all. It's true that there's always something he has to do, but there are no breaks in between. That makes it an exciting book, but I feel very sorry for the main character. Its better in the later books.
Very good as an audiobook. I can't say  about the book but guessing its compelling to read.

I was desperately hopelessly hooked on chapter one, and the story has only gotten better and better. Amazing flow to the story and a ton of good action with interesting and well written people. Im in love with this story and i can not wait to see where it all ends up going. There was a hit of a peek behind the curtain too with crowd sourcing possible Users and boy does that get my blood pumpin.

This is one of the best novels I have read anywhere including some famous ones.
The plot and writing are unbelievably good, sometimes I stop and think how the author is even able to conceive all this.
The characters for once are exciting to follow and uncover.
This is one of the best novels out their, give it a go you will not regret it. I wish there were more novels out their of this quality.

Great story. Well balanced between reality and RPG. I like the stealth build design of the protagonist. The way the story is designed to keep the hero in the background and not the OP character that is often sourced. The system seems well thought out and I like the merchant system and how they are taking over the economic system to supplant it with their own. Add in actual NPC style quests not just exp per kill and it creates a great dynamic that other stories miss.

As a patreon reader of Eligos' other story, I was excited to see something new coming from this author. Upon reading these first couple chapters I can hardly wait to see what's coming next. We are immediately introduced to a main character who's cynicism is relatable in todays modern world, but even as that world comes crashing down around him we find a glimmer of hope as he adjusts to this new reality. A real world RPG happening in present times is exciting to me as a reader struggling with real-world challenges, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how the protagonist deals with his own in such a setting. A fantastic start!
The style is fast moving and easy to read, quickly drawing us into the plot. With a first person perspective we are given direct view of events unfolding as they happen. The author gives us immediate action, pulling us into the story with a tone that fits the genre well.
Story moves quickly and is engaging and does not waste the reader's time. With the inciting incident occurring early in the first chapter, we are quickly introduced to a parallel reality through the protagonist's eyes. There is a intriguing struggle to accept this reality as the main character thinks on his feet, managing a non-stop barrage of story development. The result is a relatable and exciting read.
Grammer is sophisticated, edging on being too much so at times, but is not inaccessible to the average reader. Sentence structure is engaging and loyal to the first person narrative voice. We find clever references to real world topics such as philosophy and art. Overall, this makes for a delightful read that draws in the audience.
We are given a cast of characters here that are very real-world; namely, the protagonist. I admit to being a bit unsure of what I would find when seeing the antihero tag on this story, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a protagonist that is, understandably, worn down by the challenges of modern life, yet still caring and compassionate for

I read the full text of book 1 by getting the Amazon book, but I wanted to review it here, because I expect the author will get a lot of his new audience members via the Royal Road community.
I love this writer's style enough that, having read this story, I'm going to read his other series, Re: Monarch, once I have a little free time. You get a great sense of the characters' desperation, the stakes of any given situation, and the world from every paragraph. I love that this writer is able to depict a world where I doubt I will ever feel as if the main character is safe. That also bleeds into story.
You really feel the stakes here. The main character and his whole family are living under what feels like a real danger of death, and no higher stakes can exist in a story for me. This is technically LitRPG, but if that genre didn't exist, the author could still have a future as a suspense novelist. I'm on the edge of my seat about how both the threats and relationships will develop in future (I do not mean romantic relationships, which the main character seems unlikely to develop in the near term).
This author knows how to portray a calculating main character in an interesting, sympathetic, and intelligent way, which is a pretty special skill. Most main characters aren't as thoughtful as this one. Reading from this protagonist's perspective feels like viewing the world through a different, more intelligent lens. Most of the main characters of novels I read, even novels where the protagonist is supposed to be a fairly intelligent person, seem much less mentally sharp.
Grammar is an obligatory mention, but it seems unimportant except to note that it's pretty perfect. If there were mistakes, it would become a much more important issue.
This is a uniquely compelling combination of factors. I strongly recomend this one.

Honestly one of the best stories I have ever read.
    Character Score
The characters in Double Blind are well-developed and multi-dimensional.  Each character is unique and SOUNDS unique in the story. The secondary characters are also not just yes-men for the main character.  They follow their own logic and their logic is consistent with the character's motivations. 5 stars
    Style Score
I really like this author's style, both in Double Blind and in his other fiction, Monarch.  He has a really catchy cadence which is fast paced and keeps you guessing as to how the scenes and archs will pan out.  5 stars
    Grammar Score
The author's grammar is superb. The end.  5 Stars
    Story Score
This is the only rating I gave less than full marks (and only by half).  The story is fantastic and well fleshed out. It is compelling and the problems that arise for the main character are both imaginative and (feel) realistic.
The reason for the minus .5 is only because the story archs tends toward the flatter side.  There are continuous ups and downs (which are really compelling and keep you on your toes) but not really many major leadups to mind blowing climaxes.  Its a style that works really well! But I do somewhat miss the fingernail biting finalies.  Honestly though. 4.5/5 Stars here.

The story is an urban litrpg, or more accurately, the shadow of one. Beautifully dark, it retains all the core elements of a litrpg while dyeing the entire trope with a gritty shade of life. Yet, with all the darkness present in the story, it manages to not be edgy. 5/5.

I really hate dumb MC's. This story has a smart one so far. (Chapter 113) I really like a couple of the main side characters as they are not stupid either. Intelligent creative story with a beleivable MC makes it a really fun read. My one criticism is some chapters are just a tad short. Probably just me as I always want more content.
