Description

Would you sacrifice your soul for a chance at eternity? I remember my old life; It was decent, but nothing special. Those memories lingered in my new life; a blessed life. I was born an elf with a loving family, in an empire that no nation could hope to challenge. I had a peaceful existence, and plenty of opportunities with a long life ahead of me. The first sign came when I was six, when my half-brother offered a confectionsuspiciouslysimilar to that from a game I played a few months before my death. Then came the magician, and finally, the knight. Empire and Kingdom, two entities destined to war, and my only reference for the inevitable. I searched for a solution, anything to survive what was coming. But every answer led to the same conclusion - I needed power. And I needed it fast.Cover is Ai, I'll commission an artist if I ever make a patreon :P What to expect: Important charactersmaydie. Descriptive gore. Mixed pacing.

    TL:DR:
Read it. Seems generic on paper but is executed incredibly well and brings a lot of novelty to usually played out tropes - and I mean it. The cursing does get better. Pretty growth focused but not in a way that trivializes everything into nothing. Realistic in a way I love. Dark but not nauseating. Go try it.
    Preamble:
I'm not one for reviews, but its kind of criminal this has only 2 after having been out for 3 months. Author seems consistent with their upload schedule and chapter length is pretty satisfying. This deserves more recognition and its worth spending a little of my time to share some thoughts. Also I tend to ramble a little, apologies in advance.
An honest review of this would probably be 4-ish stars, but with Royal Road score inflation 4 might as well be a big fat "don't read" rather than "better than almost everything else here but has a couple perfectly tolerable flaws."
    For Potential Readers:
Cover, title and summary don't really capture the story. It sounds generic on paper, and sure, it has the classic knights, mages, demons, goblins etc. but it is a crime against literature to pretend its the same as everything else.
Usually (in my opinion), you tend to get half-assed archetypes populating the world in growth-focused fantasy stories. They usually rely more on your pre-existing genre knowledge than actually presenting you with anything new. Goblins are shorthand for small mean dumb monsters and they get mowed down. Adventurers are ranked and the story is usually on rank S by chapter 32. To be fair, in the genre its all about progression and gaining strength and so worldbuilding is secondary, but I digress.
    Not here!
    Magic & Power Accumulation Pace:
Its all about execution. Magic is magic in the form we recognize it, but the author took the time to really look at it. If you were sent into a world from a game you didn't really care all that much about, what are the odds you remember the minutia of how casting works? its not a game so levels ar

If I am to talk about Desecration, I must first say that Desecration is a fascinating world!
It is unique while also familiar. Full of the typical demons, gods, monsters, elves, demihumans, knights, and the like! It uses these common concepts and makes an entirely unique world that explores the said world through the eyes of Alina who reincarnated into this world as an elf named Yir.
This world is an otome game Alina once played called 'A Princess and her Knights' that was basic in Alina's opinion. The thing is though that the apocalypse is coming, a war between the gods. And it is coming soon, although Yir has no idea when exactly but does what she can to prepare for it.
But as one reads the story, they can tell that there is something odd, something deeper behind the scenes. With there being secrets that Yir definitely doesn't know.
In order to prepare for said apocalypse Yir makes a deal with a demon, becoming a witch and gaining the ability to use magic.
As we read the story it continues to build up the world and everything is just wonderfully connected and fleshed out.
As one reads the story they can see how Yir changes over time and grows even as she is faced with setbacks. She is a wonderfully fleshed out character that has depth and it is shown throughout the story, not told, from the very beginning in fact. And every single other character similarly has personality and are unique.
The world is vast and complicated and wonderfully built and it is shown and explored with magic and how it works being an example of this.
As for the grammar, the story has little to no errors per chapter as far as I have been able to find.
Overall, this is a wonderful story that is unique, well written, and holds great promise as it is continued to be built up from my far traveled eyes!

If I`m being honest, I didn`t expect it to be this good. The description is pretty generic and it doesn´t really capture the vibe of the novel.
The story is dark, the type that just keeps getting darker the longer it goes. There a lot of generic elements, like demons, gods, monsters, mages, adventures etc... But they have some novelty in how they function in this world. There are a lot of unique monsters, the diference between mages/knights and normal people is actually as big as portraied. Shit actually hits the fan when it seems like it should. It is arguable the MC has plot armour for surviving several crisis, but that mostly comes with a price or in a scenario where it is more beneficial for her would-be killers for the MC to survive (sounds odd, I know, but is it makes sense in the specific context, most of the "villains/enemies" so far also seem very practical and not just purposelessly killing every one they see)
(Minor spoilers of how magic works next paragraph)
Power system is pretty interesting, magic involves Words and and spells are built by phrases of said Words. It had been implied that there is great variety of things that can be done with magic, it is not rigid, matter of fact, it is quite diferent from person to person depending of each individual understanding of said Word and a number of other factors I won´t name. I believe the other paths of power (knights, warlocks, a couple I forgot) will also be interesting.
A lot of swearing, maybe a notch to much but it´s matter of getting used to. MC knows the End is coming and is desperate to get strong enough to survive it. She progressively pushes her limits and sanity in order to get stronger. she alredy sacrificed some important stuff, and if the story keeps its direction, she will lose a lot more in the future. I particulary enjoy that facet of the story, most things worthy of note have a price, and those transactions aren´t exclusive to the MC, pretty much anyone with some means can do the same thin
