Also, melee bruiser zombie girl is v cool. Fast updates and a lot of good artwork too
Looking forward to more interactions between Sally and Theo, so I guess I have to come back and read more later ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ - Bromboor13Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love the concept of the story and really would like to see where it goes and what kind of party the author puts together. The writing is solid and the story fresh, will except for the zombie brains. I do hope that there will be more than undead. Keep up the good writing.
- Conrad StokesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Disclaimer: This review is for a review swap with the author. I have read over 10k words.
Right now I am in the middle of waiting for a lab appointment. I’ve been here for nearly an hour, there’s a crying baby, and a sketchy dude in a hoodie who keeps walking in circles around the waiting room. Why do I mention this? This story is helping me stay sane because it is such a banger!
Story: It starts with action almost immediately, the well coordinated kind that I enjoy following along as the main character has to use tactics and tricks, rather than relying on being inherently overpowered in combat like some MCs can be. There is a mystery that is introduced right away, no spoilers, but it is a good enough hook to make you want to keep reading.
Style/Grammar: These kind of go hand in hand in this case, since the fiction does not only have an interesting plot line (story score), but it is enjoyable to read too. There is a good mix of dialogue, description and action scenes where it doesn’t not feel like one is overriding the other aspects. On top of that I did not see any grammar errors that jolted me out of the story.
Character: Sally is a gem and Humphrey is too! As the two main characters so far I enjoy their back and forth banter. Sometimes it comes off a bit stiff and “exposition-y” but overall they are sympathetic enough for me to want to root for them in the myriad of dangers that start ramping up. Despite being a zombie, Sally is more relatable than a lot of human MCs I have read.
Overall: I see why this story seems to be blowing up. Not only is it well written, but the author seems to have a lot of positive interactions in the comment section too. Good story. Recommend. - SebineRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0That would be a fuckin travesty.
I need more words, this is annoying
I don't need 50 words, you fuckin review Nazis
Remember kids: playing with fire is awesome
Also if you get drunk don't try to ride a goat, they're much easier to fall off of than a horse. - keeganashleyliveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This one is such a well-written, engaging ride. From the get-go I bonded with the main character---a waitress who’s bored with 'waiting' and eager for the adventures she dreams up in her head. Usually, when characters move from modern day to an alternate, LitRPG reality, they become monsters or bottom-rung outsiders who have to work their way up to hero; here we see something different: [insert somehow-advanced (in a way we don't know yet) zombie transformation here]. The creativeness of the world wowed me. I was impressed with, not only this well-thought-out, fun system, but, also, the writing talent (which I guess would go under ‘style’ for the purpose of this review). Everything flows in a very satisfying, tied-up and pretty way that has you not even noticing the structure as you read happily along. Even the dialogue seems natural. This author clearly has some word milage under their belt!
Grammar was spotless; I didn’t find anything that took me out of my reading binge. In fact, the story lent itself to binging further and faster. I’m going to go ahead and 'favorite' and 'follow' this story. What started out as an author swap has me wanting to read more and more, and, really, that’s the best compliment a writer can ever get. Well well done. - rrname12321Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This one is impressing me. I am really enjoying the protagonist's attitude and the fun direction of the story. This is another one that isn't grim dark and I like that despite it being a sort of apocalypse. Loving the jokes and the characters so far. I hope it keeps it up!
- BonesandBillyClubsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Which is the best joke, of course. When it's entirely plausible within the setting. Does she get Elved in V4? Did Theo somehow get turned into a group of gnomes? Sleeping Beauty cosplay and gnome gangbang? Who knows. I quite like the new cover image, regardless of what might be unfolding :D
- MaloryRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an extremely well done piece of comedy Litrpg which manages to both lean into various genre tropes, whilst thoroughly taking the mick out of them at the same time. The upshot is that this is definitely a book you should be reading.
Story - what happens when a newly reincarnated soul into a zombie mob gains the ability to become a player? Shenanigans, that’s what. That rather meaty premise is dealt with with such a lightness of touch, that you find yourself absolutely routing for her.
Characters - all about Sally at the moment (of course) but an honourable mention must be made to Humps. The antagonists at the moment, really, are a series of irritating players (name me a player who isn't) and then the system itself. I look forward to seeing how she brings it down!
Style - this is a hoot. The tone is wry and with a deftness of touch. There’s a reason this has flown to the upper regions of Rising Stars...
Grammar - no issues at all. It’s great to read a text that, obviously, has gone through some proper proofreading and editing!
Overall, look, you’re probably already reading this. And if you are not, you should be. It’s great. - No Road UntraveledRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Don’t worry about the moaning, Sally has a lot to think about lately. Raptured from her mindless job as a waitress, she finds herself headed for a heap a trouble! Will Sally be able to chew her way to victory, or will be she find her dead-ication lacking?
A mix of comedy, action, and a bit of wholesomeness! Well worth the time to read. - PeterRobertsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First of all, the premise is fantastic. Sally is an avid roleplay fan in a dead end job who lacks some of the social tools needed to actually join a game with other real live humans.
She ends up in a roleplay world complete with spells, character classes, clerics and everything else a DnD fan would love. But the great thing is, she isn't a character, she's an NPC monster - a low level zombie with enough awareness to survive exp hunters and flip the game on its head.
The world building is wonderful with a great big bad character introduced early and a witty companion that Kleggt seems really fond of including in their work (I'm talking about the sarcastic magical hat in Deathforged)
If the plot and setting are something that you are interested in, then Kleggt's style will make this a pleasure for you. Just like their other Fiction "Deathforged: Private Eye" there is a special kind of dry humour throughout that makes it so you can't help but want to follow the MC on her journey and root for her to triumph.
I don't do many reviews, and I don't really read too much litRPG, but as a DnD player everything about the world is familiar and the way the point of view is from an NPC monster is fresh and engaging. I would die laughing if I was in a roleplay game and I ran into Sally and would make her a part of my group in a second.
Hope this is something for you!
