- SimsebRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I like the story so far yes sometimes its getting a bit deus ex machina, people are to good to our main character and he acts a bit thoughtless. But that's making the charm of this book, it's a nice read and it just started.
So I don't think the other rating is very fair for that you get 5/5 stars.
I will keep reading and maybe change some parts of my review later so keep up the good work hihi.
(p.s. Mother tongue not English) - SteadyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0i think the premise is pretty interesting. or at the very least, conventional but solidly done. either way I think the story.
there's a decent amount of worldbuilding, and it's pretty chill. a nice amount, and I think that the main character gets to tour the world, being in the position he is in. It's definitely a highlight of the story, and within the context of the story I think it makes sense that the mc is op. There are anecdotes or rumors about past heroes, and it implies a complex world (and by complex, I mainly mean a non black and white world). And that non binaryness also is accurate for most characters. Everyone has motives, and they feel consistent. Most of the characters allow me to feel immersed.
I think the main negatives are: the two side companions Grisha and Karen.
Grisha is a victim of circumstance, instantly turned into a companion that cannot betray the mc. She exhibits important plot points- ('why are heroes summoned in the first place?'), but on the other hand, I think this really just hampers the story being told. It's hard to treat a character seriously if they have these constraints, and therefore feels contrived. The nuances of the soul contract are hard for me to understand fully (and just feels like an overly complicated plot point that tries to enhance why they need to stick together, but I just don't think it's necessary. it kinda feels like some sort of slave contract, which also feels confusing, and my sensibilities are confused as to why a modern person is just okay with that.)
Karen is a villain turned companion. I think my main complaint, is that there simply wasn't enough development regarding the turnaround. and the reason that they start to travel together feels contrived and flimsy. Karen is a murderer, who chases power in pursuit of what the mc has. From her point of view, she is just chasing an object/power that was originally hers (this is just inferred/assumed, and we don't get the nuance of it fully). Then they start trave - Ranma_LeopardRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love the fic so far!! I couldn't put it down once I started!!!! It's just plain enjoyable. Granted I'm partial to the main character Brian and the swaps between Brian and the other characters are somewhat annoying but not to the point where I just skip them (it'll take something super serious for me to do so). I can't wait to see what happens next!!
- MrGrassRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The MC is transported into a typical JRPG story, but rather than a Hero, he is just some bloke with OP abilities. He does his own thing as JRPG tropes surround him.
I enjoyed reading most of it. The self-awareness of the MC and the situation are fairly on point. I was not a fan of the sexualization of minors or the advocation of polygamous relations, but they are JRPG tropes, and are unfortunately authentic to that style of writing. I try to steer clear of these kind of Japanese inspired novels, as I find them gross at best and offensive at worst.
I would recommend this to those that want to enjoy a guilty pleasure in this progression fantasy. - LitRPG_fanRoyal Road★★ 2.0This story appears to be, as one reviewer correctly wrote, an "edgy teen fantasy". It is that, but it’s a poorly presented “edgy teen fantasy”. Tropes, when well thought out and presented in a coherent manner are fun to read, that is not the situation in this story.
It appears to me that the author hasn’t figured out who the MC is supposed to be. Is he a teen? Is he an adult? Is he a nice/kind MC or does he want to torture? Is he a creep? Are teenagers his kryptonite? Can he cast spells silently or does he have to shout out the spell names? Is he someone who is calculating, that thinks things through or is he someone dumb enough to not kill an enemy with resources while they present no major threat?
Minor spelling errors. Nothing huge. The story is readable.
This story isn’t system intensive, but it works very well for this story, and I honestly enjoyed the “bare bones” aspect of the system because it is skill focused. Leveling up awards skill points which can be invested into a skill tree. Plus, the main reason I kept on reading is the MC’s “cheat”, it’s very interesting/fun. There’s no ‘achievements’ as of when I stopped reading, no pop up notifications from the system, and there’s no attributes.
The first 6 chapters are annoying and very off putting, but it got worse in chapter 10. This story would be fantastic if it didn’t include the weird and out of place aspects of the MC. It’s disappointing. See below.
Inner monologue doesn’t exist because the MC walks around talking out loud to himself where anyone can hear him, and ofc this is how he makes a friend while lost in a forest as they hear him loudly talking out loud to himself. The MC later starts telling his life story to strangers, “I was transported from another world with heroes”, going so far as to loudly tell this story in a tavern at one point. Also, there’s a teen cafeteria fight scene at the tavern where the MC and a “spoiled brat” character get puffy chested over a girl who can protect herself.
The M - danlinRoyal Road★★ 1.5Firstly, the character interactions are unrealistic.
In chapter one, the protagonist acts like he knows everything and the world bends around backwards to accomodate that. In reality, there are so many ways he could be wrong in his assumptions but he never is.
The world seems generic from what I saw. Not really a negative since that is what the author seems to be going for (the most generic world possible in order to represent various isekai worlds).
Story seems to start off as a generic isekai intro. Again, not a negative (since that is what he is going for), but combined with the insane way the world bends around backwards for the mc, it makes it worse.
Basically since I didn't see a hook I liked, combined with the insane way the world bends around backwards for the mc, I have to give this a low rating.
Grammar is decent. Prose is fine as well.
1.5/5 stars. - NoTime..Royal Road★★ 1.5It is a decent story i suppose but it is a bit frustrating. Too many tropes are packed into one spot and it just becomes unbearable.
He also attracts dragon milf and loli child demon who basically want to create a harem with him but he is too good for that and will not fall for the trope. Also quite a distasteful bath scene where mc is nude with a 14 year old who loves him and a milf dragon who would not mind mating with him. Just overly sexual and strange for the age
Overall decent and readable but i think author tries too hard to be funny with the tropes and it kinda flopped. If i had nothing better to do i could read it but its not enjoyable enough to remain in my reading list. - Le.scotRoyal Road★ 0.5I was very much enjoying this story. A lot of the tropes were well done, up until the most recent chapters that I really just couldn't get myself to overlook. I find the love interest of a girl that is described at 14 taking a bath in the same bath as the MC with another adult woman with overt sexual overtones to be too far. I think it is distasteful to say the least.
