Spiraling Super Soldier vs. OP Space Gods

I’m the first to admit—I’m a hot mess of a girl. Foul mouth, slightly promiscuous, loyalty issues—and that’s just where my problems start. But what I lack in social skills, I make up for on the battlefield.

As a highly decorated sniper in the Rural Republic military, I shoot far, I shoot straight, and I don’t miss.

In other words, my hot mess is also badass.

But when an avian warrior turns up while I’m in the middle of a crisis and tells me I’ve got less than a year to live unless I let him take me off-planet and level me up to fulfill some ancient alien prophecy… yeah, that’s when my trust issues kicked in and I booked it the hell outta there.

But turns out—mofo was telling the truth.

And my hot mess of a life is about to get a hundred times worse.

Welcome to my crazy-but-coping era.

I might be spiraling, but I’m taking the whole planet down with me.

What to Expect:

-An OP protagonist who finally meets her match

-Super reluctant (like wants NO part in this) Chosen One

-Profanity, violence, and all the triggers

-Brutal action, high-stakes fights, and leveling up

-Progression—but no stat screens

-Space travel, AI, and bioengineered chaos

-A ride-or-die team that’s 100% loyal

-Death. So much death.

-Anultra-slow-burn romance simmering under all the carnage

This was the first book I ever wrote. 100 more came after... but this was my baby at one time (long, long ago) and although she's got her fans, I think this story was ahead of her time so I'm giving her another push.I hope you enjoy Junco. I certainly did. Feel free to give all the opinions about her. She is easy to hate, but even easier to love if you keep going. There's a really good 5* audiobook out in the wild as well (if you're in to that) - but it's under the original title.

  • Loving this story! Great start, exciting build right to the action. Love the mysterious stuff that doesn't drag on too long before reveals, only to do it all over again. I enjoy strong female characters and Junco is definitely that.  Normally I don't go in…

    Loving this story!
Great start, exciting build right to the action. Love the mysterious stuff that doesn't drag on too long before reveals, only to do it all over again. I enjoy strong female characters and Junco is definitely that.  Normally I don't go in for first person stuff , but think that was totally the right choice for this story.
Awesome world building ( I mean, not a great world here, but it fits with the theme of the story for sure)
Enjoying reading here, and am gonna go buy the audios on audible.

Very little exposition, kind of a useless/clueless MC, lots of dialog and odd happenings with a super-powered alien? These first few chapters have worn on me as it feels like very little pay-off to reading so far in terms of my understanding of what is going on. I have found I just don't care enough to really continue, though perhaps I am stopping right before it gets good?
Still, very well written dialog, descriptions and imagery, and a true dedication to the 1st person narrative.

Alright, so like the title says I'm very confused about what is actually happening in this book. I'll avoid spoilers.
MC is flip flopping back and forth from one personality to another all over the place. Soldier, pro athlete, helpless maiden, professional off road driver, raised in (former) US territory but using kmph, etc. I just don't have any idea who/what she is or what's going on in the story right now.
However, like the other reviewer said, the dialog is good and the characters feel real. That's why I kept reading for this long.
I think the problem that I'm running into is that plot relevant lore and side characters are kinda like juggling. You want to get a solid 3 balls up in the air, so that you have enough things in the air to qualify as juggling, relatively quickly so that you can start your story. Then you want to slowly add more balls so that the story becomes more complex and the reader becomes more invested.
I think the author started with 3 balls in the opening chapter then kept adding balls until I'm sitting here watching 20 balls flying through 4 different patterns. I'm impressed, but I have no idea where any of this is going and I'm not sure if the fumbles are part of the act or if the whole things is just falling apart in slow motion.
