Description

Cognitron is an enthralling science-fiction novel that follows the journey of John, a soldier who wakes up aboard the Noah spaceship, only to discover that he has been implanted with a special chip known as the Cognitron. This chip grants him the ability to pilot Nanobots and fight against the Xenobots that threaten humanity, all from the comfort of his tactical pod aboard the ship.

As he begins to acclimate to his new reality, John meets his fellow teammates - Luke and Maria, who, like him, have also recently awoken. Sergeant Rodriguez, their commanding officer, must help guide the three newly awoken soldiers and unite them into a cohesive team.

Their ultimate goal is to inhabit Verterra, a planet similar to Earth that can support human life. To achieve this, they must fight off the Xenobots and establish a safe and stable environment on the planet.

John's partner is Private First Class Jackson, a confident individual, while Maria is paired with supportive Private Harrison. On the other hand, Luke works alongside Private Foster, a wild cannon that keeps everyone on their toes.

As their mission progresses, John uncovers the truth about his past, discovering that it may aid him in his current job. With the help of his Cognitron chip, John must use his gaming skills and military training to aid humanity in surviving the dangers of their new world and ultimately reaching their goal of inhabiting Verterra.

Cognitron explores themes of memory, identity, and survival, delivering an action-packed, thrilling story about ordinary individuals thrust into extraordinary circumstances.

This story seems like it was written to keep you turning the “pages” which I appreciate. It has a fast-paced and engaging plot that keeps me hooked on every chapter. I was surprised at the gore (nothing crazy, but I wasn’t expecting it) but it really raised the stakes and added some realism to the story, so that was good.
There are some cliches in the story (in terms of language, not tropes), but overall I enjoyed the style. The author has a way with words that creates vivid images and emotions in my mind. Also, there were some grammatical errors, but no more than in any other Royal Road story. On both of those scores, I’d still say this one ranks ahead of most of the stories I read here.
I like the story so far, it seems like an interesting twist on concepts I’ve seen before. The story combines elements of different sci-fi stories I've read in the past in a unique way that makes me curious about the world and its history.
I feel like it’s a bit early to judge the character development, but I like what I see. The characters are likable, and their interactions are fun and believable. It feels kind of like a cinematic experience with that getting-a-team-together vibe which is fun (in my opinion).
Overall, I’d say this is an easy read that’s got me wondering what’s going to happen next. Looking forward to future chapters and hoping that the interesting threads the author has started pulling will have a strong payoff as the story continues.

Such a great read! The storyline is easy to follow and so full of imagery I feel like I'm on The Noah myself. I love the team dynamic so far and I can't wait to see how the team works together during the upcoming battle in the next chapter. Great stuff!
