Alfonso “Alfie” Carter has always wanted to prove himself to all as a great chili cook. Denied access to the kitchen of his family’s restaurant for his lack of adherence to classical recipes and rules, he felt weak and helpless to fulfill his dreams. Like a would-be student denied access to a martial arts school, he struggled to fulfill his goal. After a wrong turn, he finds himself in a traditional cultivation world. It is time for him to learn that wishes, like recipes, must adapt to the circumstances, environments, and ingredients one finds themselves in.

It’s time for him to learn, grow, and teach the people of his new world the power of a cook by mastering chili con cultivation.

Chili Con Cultivation is a comedy cultivation story written for the January 2024 Royal Road Magazine contest.

The premise is unusual, odd and fun! It feels like a new, fresh take on the classic 'young man down on his luck with something to prove' formula. Captivating dialogue between the characters is definitely a strong point. All good adventure stories need mysteries to unravel and strange new things to encounter. This definitely has both~!

For what seems to be a so!ewhat ridiculous premise, this story has no business being as coherent as it is. Alfie is a convincing character, and I'm rooting for him to make the best chili in the world, and then promptly surpassing himself. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this story

It's a pretty fun story so far! Alfie's a fun character and I really enjoy getting to see him handle all of these situations he finds himself in and grow from chapter to chapter. Soon I feel like he will become as much of the bean sprout while growing and getting further into the realm of cultivating one's nascent chili soul!
