Her companion, Genius the crow, adds a much-needed counterbalance. He’s not just adorable—he’s clever, witty, and often the spark of levity that cuts through the otherwise gritty, bleak tone of the story.
When I started reading, I expected a straightforward grimdark tale, and while it certainly leans into those darker themes—moral ambiguity, harsh realities, and unforgiving consequences—it surprised me by blending in moments of humor, warmth, and even hope.
