Blood and Blessings

Description
Everyone in this world is gifted with a blessing. Blessings are unique abilities you receive when you're born. Some people have useful blessings, such as enhanced physical strength. While others... have rather useless blessings, such as the ability to grow hair 10% more quickly than the average person.
Near the end of the 17th century, a war between vampires and humans found place with humanity coming out victorious.
200 years later, this historic event is known as the Battle of Blood and Blessings.
After this war, vampires were believed to be extinct.
I'm Blanche, and I'm a vampire! After escaping my home, a renowned author who goes by Jean Lenoir offered to take me in after discovering my true nature. His reasoning is because he wants to learn more about vampires in order to improve the quality of his vampire-themed novel.
After a year of living with him, Jean told me I needed some real life experience, and through his connections he managed to enroll me in the most prestigious school in the country… I wonder if I’ll fit in.

- AustimizedRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm always impressed by stories written by authors for whom English is a second language and I've found their stories come with built-in fresh takes for those used to English-speaking authors due to their inate cultural differences.
This story definitely takes the vampires and superpowers to a such a new place, a school to be precise.
See, the main character, Blanche, has a problem: he's secretly in a vampire attending a High School designed for the same "blessed" individuals who supposedly wiped vampires out. Raised by a torturous madman constantly performing Nazi-death camp level physical experiments on him, Blanche has barely any idea how the outside world and vampires work beyond said experiments and his one youthful escape: reading.
Fitting in at school is already hard enough; in Blood and Blessing's setup it's guaranteed to be a fascinating challenge.
While the story's only up to seven chapters at the time of this review, between Blanche discovering his vampiric powers, learning how the blessing system works, the vampire-among-hunters plot, and the usual High School drama and hijinks, this one has potential!
The language barrier can make occasional bits rough looking forward to seeing where this one (and the author's future fictions) goes! - femtockRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The author does a great job at adding both wholesome, and cruel moments in his work, and I'm liking all of the characters so far (especially Jean). I look forward to seeing where this story goes in the future!
Defenitely reccomend this to anyone who enjoys a story where the main character has a secret identity. - nerodotusRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Magic in this world is manifesting itself in the form of blessings – kind of random superpowers that humans can get. Vampires are thought extinct.
The narration is good, grammar is overall OK. There are some small hick-ups, inherent with any writing probably caused by inattention.
After having lived a tortured life as a lab rat and having freed himself through killing his tormentor, luck is on his side and the now adopted MC is being introduced gradually to human society and joins an elite school. Letting a half-tamed vampire go to class with a lot of innocent humans and study the happening! What could possibly go wrong?
The story has potential, based on some good and original ideas. A fun and pleasant read. - BellaArtzRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Putting my feelings for this story into words is a bit difficult, especially since I'm pissed that that there isn't more to read, but the current impression I have is that this story has a lot of potential if the writer continues to handle it with care.
These are just the first four chapters and I generally never expect much from that length because a story needs time to build up and show what it offers in die time. The pacing was okay but in terms of style I feel the writer could add a few more descriptions here and there to really put the audience into the world as I don't think I've ever read a book about Paris and I really want to feel a Paris vibe from this.
As for the characters there's nothing much to go on, I love Jean cause I get a cool uncle/slash bug brother vibe anything he's talking and Its enjoyable. Blanche on the other hand is the resident shy kid with trauma who seems eager to please. Not much to go on right now and I hope to see much deeper eye catching characters in the future as the characters are part of the main attractions your story should show case.
The story isn't going in any particular thrilling direction at the moment as Blanche is just concerned about school but I can't wait to see how things develope and the author should please put up another chapter.
Case in point, I'm enjoying this and I'd recommend to anyone looking for a. Highschool vampire story to give it a try. I'll probably edit this when I read future chapter but who knows? - MackieRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story started very slow and nice, with so many blood in the first chapter.
The style score, well, the story was written in first person POV and honestly, It's a good thing because its easier to put the reader into the main character's shoes everytime they read the story. The scenes are easy to understand and visualize. Chapter lengths are also nice and convenient, especially if you're using a phone and you have to scroll with tiny fingers.
The story was progressing slowly (as if teasing the readers),also, hiding the blessings of other characters for future revelations was really a good idea. The story was well-written so far.
About the Grammar, I think I'm not the right person to rate it since English is my second language. But anyway, I really don't mind (more like I didn't spot) any grammar errors or whatsoever.
The characters are the most precious thing in the story. We have a lone vampire survivor MC that happened to kill two people, a creepy multitasker author who's really unpredictable, and cat... yes a cat (a cute furball as stated). I'm looking forward to the character developments and more characters.
Overall, the story was good with a strong start (especially in the first chapter). I'm really hoping for more from your story and many revelations in the following chapters. - Rookie12Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5This review is based on the six chapters that were available at the time.
Before us is a fast-paced YA novel set in Paris. The humans gained superpowers in this setting, allowing some to manipulate size and others to be stronger, and so on.
Our MC (named Blanche) gained no powers. He is a vampire and, due to some unfortunate circumstances, ended up captured in the lair of a mad scientist for years, enduring unspeakable torture. But like all things, it passed, and the young vampire broke free. Before he could turn to evil and massacre the whole of Paris, he was met by a good natured writer, who convinced him to give another chance to humanity and eventually sent the MC off to school. With no memories of his past, the journey begins.
The grammar is somewhat lacking in some places, but this is nothing that can't be fixed in a rewrite or two. The story takes place in the present tense, which is a bit unusual, but a reader will get used to it soon enough.
The story itself is interesting: a vampire trying to live a normal life without causing too much ruckus. Thankfully for him (and for the people), he met some decent humans and now has a real reason to behave. However, he still needs blood. And this means only one thing: preying on someone...
The story moves at a breakneck pace, almost risking losing the reader in the process. Personally, I think that a bit slower pacing would be more beneficial.
The characters are nice and likeable, and you can really see why the MC would stick with any of them. The MC is a bit bland, but considering his backstory, it is to be expected. He is prone to violence when feeling cornered and can act with terrifying speed.
It is a bit too early to judge the story's direction, but I think that this is a slice-of-life story. If you are looking for a calm and interesting setting, give this story a try, it just might surprise you. - Real TensaiRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This story got potential. The ideas presented are interesting and the whole setting is good. However, this story could need some refinement. There are some grammar and punctuation mistakes that could be easily fixed. The story would benefit from more fleshed out descriptions or adding more depth to the main character. I would advise the author to use less dialogue and to sit more in the moment, describing characters’ feelings or the atmosphere.
This is the first work of the author so, it is obviously not perfect. Yet I would recommend it to anyone who wants to read something interesting that will only get better with time!
