Black Onyx - Phoenix Resurrection

Description
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of an immortal vessel. Through pain and flames, I forged it.
From death through flames, to life again, the Heavens will make, an eternal man!
He was once but a man, a young one from Earth, a man that crossed over to another world.
After a long string of both fortunate and unfortunate events, he was killed, only to be resurrected by the powers of a Phoenix. Gerald, in his eternal pursuit of power, went and joined a Sect of powerful Cultivators where learned to properly use his newly gained magic powers in the unfamiliar world, and with a tiny compounding advantage, began to dominate his enemies.
He pursued not strength, money, or women, though those too were gained along the way, instead, he craved a body to withstand and witness the end of the world.
What use is money without a long life to enjoy it? What use are the fancy sword techniques and mystic arts, if you can’t take a hit? How many mistakes can one make, before a mortal wound brings them down? It takes just one, and you never see it coming.
Join, and follow the story of Gerald Fireborn as he explores his new world of monsters and gods... while avoiding death for the second time, of course.
Although the story is the continuation of Black Onyx – Forgotten Magic, I plan on writing it so that no prior knowledge is required to enjoy the story! Feel free to read the previous book if you are interested though, there will be plenty of downtime for that.
I am trying a different approach for this piece, so it might be a bit wonky at the beginning, but don’t fret! I’ll be sure to make a beautiful chaotic mess that you can enjoy as always!

- wolfeflowRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is a sequel to another by the same author. I had not read the original when I started this, but the author has done a solid job of either explicitly or implicitly providing enough information to fill in any blanks.
The story itself is a fun, lighthearted progression isekai xanxia with a lot of self awareness. Once its plot picks up, things move along at a steady clip and are almost always very entertaining.
I will admit that I did not love the MC at the start. He's bullheaded and irreverant to a fault, especially since he's so intelligent. But his personality settles down quickly too, and his attitude has its justifications.
All-in-all, this is a wonderful story well worth your time. Settle in for a fun ride. - DragontailszRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0When i started this series, i was quickly drawn in and kept on reading this amazing story.
I love how the magic and a bit of science / earthly knowledge makes our MC a real powerhouse.
I am still waiting everyday for new chapters to be released so i can follow the MC in his quest of becoming he strongest and finding answers. - Mershan27Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0To be honest, the story is great! The introduction of the world building of the novel is both a mixture of fast and slow, like the MC's progression.
Right now, he considers a lot of possibilities that interest him to improve to avoid another fatal mistake.
The MC is smart in his own way, but sometimes can be lost when he is focused on what interest that made him improve greatly.
The content is good, not pushed, a little cliche, and new one's added to the mix. And it had a feel of slice of life with character growth and progression.
If you are a reader of the first book of the author. Don't worry, he has becoming better as a character, in a slow way. - NinteeenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Basic review:
In my opinion this story deserves a lot of followers and views, the author did such a great job creating a wondeful cultivation world that is balanced, and made if feel alive. The main character ,Gerald , isn't a dense Mc, he is always quick to understand his situation, and adapt.
The actions he makes in the story are a fresh air compared to the other generic cultivation stories.
And while the story isnt that unique compared to its bretheren, it still does a good job at giving you that cultivation story you will crave.
I cant sadly put everything good thing this story has in this review, or else it will be too long.
Id say give it a shot, very much worth it! - Some DudeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story takes a lot of the normal tropes of cultivation stories and throws them out the window, while not making the story super boring. The main character is probably pretty hard to get used to at first because this is the second book and he has already done a lot.
Style
the style of the book is a bit weird at first as there are a lot of jokes that are from the real world and don't seem to fit into the story, but for the most part the author can keep it from breaking immersion, which is the most important thing to me.
story
currently there's not really enough chapters to get a hold on what the story is gonna be like but if it's anything like the last book it's gonna be a very big entertaining mess of chaos, most of which is gonna be caused by the mc.
grammar
not much to say here, just want the author to use quotes when people are talking including the mc! Don't understand why you want to use square brackets when he says something, all it does is make it harder to read at least in my opinion.
character
So while the author has come a long way since they first started writing, the characters (besides the mc) are just kinda bland. I never really liked any of the side characters in the last book, and that stays true for this one. I personally don't mind this but it still doesn't change that fact that there is a lot of room for improvement.
Overall, I enjoyed and am enjoying the book, so keep it up author :) - ZerksisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0100% worth reading! Having read up to ch. 25, i think, i can safely say its great. Dont know why it was reuploaded, but hey...
The story has an unique spin to a cultivation story with some funny interactions, drama, combat, magic...
Mc is obviousl slighrty traumatized by the fact he died, and tries to do everything to prevent that drom happening again. There are interesting concepts of real physics mixed in, making the story seem more grounded in reality.
It's honestly a good read if you leave your disbelief at the front door. Some of the characters are a bit flat, but they arent that important anyway.
Grammar is basically perfect, couldn't do better myself.
About style... Its good, being written mostly in first person, a clear change feom his other stories, but it qorks, so i have nothing bad to say about it.
And i have to write more, so let me just say that from the hundreds of novels i have read, this one carries a unique flavor that makes it stand out among others.
Once again, definitely worth a a try
...
How much more do i have to write?? Im here to read, not write. Hopefully this will be enough - malinizgeldiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There is another novel about the past of this novel. To summarize; gerald who became iskai from the modern world to the world of sorcerers.
Gerald later reincarnates on another continent, on Earth where he becomes Isekai. There are people who practice xualian on this continent.
Combining the knowledge of wizards with the knowledge of modern religion, this novel is perfect. I really enjoyed reading it.
I suggest you start right away. mc almost never gets caught up in xuallian nonsense and does not lose his modern world philosophy. One of the best xuallian novels I've ever read.
I was surprised that there was a huge difference between 2 novels written by the same author with the same mc. I think the previous novel was the author's wasteland work. bravo dude.
edit: please unblock me my friend - myusernameRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very fun read, humor is great and the MC is pretty easy to relate to. The writing style is easy to read and not just repetitive words to get the word count up. I actually followed from another site to continue reading. Well worth the time, keep up the good work and I'll stick until the end.
- AzureDaoistRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Pretty good generic cultivation novel. Nothing new for experienced readers but if you're looking for the standard journey (joining the sect, missions, apprentice brothers, etc). Nothing is really missing and action is decent while progress is fast.
My critique would be that until C85 cultivation has been just stacking energy and because the MC has some kind of talent that lets him absorb endless energy, progress doesn't always feel earned/satisfying. Rating: 7/10 - sztrzask2Royal Road★★★ 3.0It started fun - a classic power fantasy, quite a nice adventure.
Then it went downhill, when author introduced prostitutes and and rape (if the first prostitute won't follow the will of MC, she will be trash and die, that's extortion).
Story become generic wish fulliflment and I totally lost interest when author started putting his own personal opinion on unrelated topics into the prose (basically author lost focus, e.g. noting how many genders there are out of the blue. If it was somehow related to the story, then maybe it wouldn't be so obvious the focus on the story was lost, but... ehhh, a shame).
