- EsZeusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall Summary:
I am normally a highly critical person. So me giving this a 5 star review means something, I would say.
The Story starts solid, it has a LOT of things going on in the background, but it still focuses 99,9% on the MC only. Which I LOVE. I hate it if a story is branching to much and you can´t focus on all the different characters and story lines. Here it is simple and I enjoy following the MC through the world, his training, getting stronger and just being who he is.
He has some minor and major flaws, but they are getting fixed here and there. I know that he is still young, has hormone problems, and his two lifes were not easy and short, too.
So everything that happens is kind of rational.
Style:
The style of the story is solid & decent in my opinion. The story doesn´t start world shattering but the Author has a good understanding on how to write and introduce things.
I can´t find any major flaw here, and for a first time write, it´s really awesome.
Story:
The Story itself shows us the Journey of Lan MC who was orphaned 2 times. In his first life, until he died (18y) randomly because of some weird experiments people used him on, then being reincarnated into a fantasy world where Human´s somehow stranded.
The background information that is slowly trickled into the worldbuilding and story telling is showing us WHY this all happened. And there is some way bigger plot behind everything, which is shown bit by bit.
I really like the world building, the pacing & time skips, the characters and how everything is told. While the MC is still growing up, everything he does (mostly) makes sense. Especially with the knowledge in the back of my head about his hard first life where he just reached 18 years of life, too.
Grammar:
The Grammar is solid. It improves a LOT later on, but I didn´t find any major flaws early on that itnerrupted my reading flow somehow. That could also be because I am not native English, but nonetheless I am pretty fluent when it comes to rea - ThePentherRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The prose is excellent. The dialogue feels natural. The characters feel real. The setting is rich. The series is impeccable. Love every line.
This series is utterly fantastic. Our MC (Lev), is at the heart of an incredible moment in the history of the setting, and he wants to be the fulcrum of societies advancement through self mastery and exploitation of every opportunity he comes across. Everything will try to stop him. He will meet every occasion, but he will have losses and failures and come back stronger and more motivated. - Thor HammerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am loving this story. The protagonist is a reincarnated soul, but unlike many other stories his mentor knows about it. All of the upper echelon eventually know about it. I do not want too put any spoilers, but there is a reason why they all know, and it makes sense in the story. A refreshing change from many reincarnations. Protagonist still has some secrets to keep, but this has been a very thoroughly enjoyable binge read. Going to follow and maybe even favorite the series!
- LifestriderRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story has a strong world building and a cool magic system. Its leveling system is reminiscent of Azarinth Healer. The story is about 60% fighting, 15% character ability growth and consideration, 10% navel-gazing, and 10% character interactions.
The good:
The combat is good and satisfying. The character ability growth is too. The mysteries of the world are interesting and engaging. The writing is very technically good, and has few errors.
The struggles:
The story is somewhat lacking in meaningful character development of the main character, mostly because of the big missing point--the character has an extremely casual relationship with like five people, and a deep relationship with three. And for those three, the foundations of the relationship happened in a time skip.
Dialogue and character interaction are essential to properly fleshing out a main character. As-is, his strongest personality traits are wanting to be treated in an egalitarian fashion, power thirst, and hatred of authority.
Give the kid some hobbies aside from meditation and killing things, and give him some peer friends! Making his motive wanting to help humanity when he's basically a shut-in that talks to no one but a few people and as needed to go fight things is limiting in the MCs character development. - FireafriyieRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Genuinely a fun read, and I enjoy how the story is progressing. At first i thought it was going to be some LitRPG slop that i would use to fill the time, but i was wrong. I like it now. Solid 7.5. I like the progression and how the MC isn't instantly powerful but has to be smart and resourceful too
- YellowFlameRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Good world building and setting.
Power system is solid and can grow nicely without feeling forced
All the premise to be a very good book.
But story just falls through into dry and repetitive dialogues, random abilities whenever if seems cool and useless arcs.
You could skip several chapters and not miss much becomes a painful read in the 200s - DonKarnageRoyal Road★★★ 3.0The story starts with some interesting world building and hints at an epic direction, unfortunately it turns into the author trying to do alllllll the things with an OP MC. Fighting, crafting (but not really), teammates (kinda sorta), one week the MC is focused on ranged combat and the next close combat.
Book 1 (on Kindle) was fast paced and fun. Book 2-3 was mostly the same, but starting to show some weakness and needles fluff. Book 4 is a tired slog of fights, pointless "crafting", and new characters who somehow become nearly instant besties (but are then left behind for what looks to be most of book 5).
Chapters 175-230 can nearly be skipped entirely, and hopefully get trimmed drastically in a future rewrite.
Author stated they're expecting 10 more books if they don't drag things out.
There's a lot of potential here, so hopefully the author can tighten up the writing and trim a lot of the fat. Otherwise, it will be very hard to recommend that new readers try out the story. - DrakhosRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Summary
I read up to chapter 175, hoping the story would finally take off, but it never does. Despite a world that seems full of potential, the book never manages to turn that into an engaging story. Progression and a narrative arc can absolutely work together, yet this novel never commits to any long-term sustained adventure. What could have been an exciting journey ends up feeling repetitive and empty. The story goes in circles with no real direction, the characters lack meaningful connections or growth, and the main character's class is a chaotic mix of everything imaginable with no clear identity. While the grammar is fine, the writing sometimes isn't very clear, so a few scenes can be hard to follow. It is a frustrating read that constantly promises more than it ever delivers, and honestly, I would not recommend picking it up.
Story
There isn't really a story here, just the MC grinding through monsters with no larger arc behind it. What's frustrating is that the universe clearly offers so many possibilities for great stories, yet none of them are explored. Instead of diving into the world's potential, we're stuck watching the protagonist go through the same cycle of training, brief meaningless filler adventures lasting 2/3 chapters, monster waves and dungeon runs, sometimes several times in the same ones. And these dungeons are nothing more than a succession of battles with no atmosphere, mystery, or narrative purpose. There's progress in terms of gaining levels, sure, but it feels disconnected from from any real story or meaning. The world feels vast, but the story makes it small, turning what could have been something exciting into something painfully dull.
Characters
Some of the characters are easy to get attached to, but they end up feeling more like family figures or moral anchors for the main character rather than true companions. They're mostly there to offer a bit of contrast or emotional change between the endless training and dungeon runs, not to shar - MarvekTheWarlordRoyal Road★★★ 3.0It's a pretty good story, with a solid world and mostly interesting plot.
The main problem I have is with the characters, including the mc. He's kind of weird in his motivations and goals, and I know the author makes a point of addressing it but it still feels shallow and inconclusive. Combine that with the fact that every situation ends with him passed out and then saved by someone stronger, and I mean EVERY situation, and the whole thing feels kind of aimless. He never really accomplishes things, triumphs over something hard. He either throws himself at something too hard and passes out, or is "so strong" that he breezes through without any stakes. It's not very fulfilling and a little repetitive, I get that it's being set up for something bigger, but I don't really find myself caring. Also the other characters seem slightly two dimensional? Kind of like card board cut outs of what their role in the story is, except for Beatrice I liked her. They treat the mc with a lot of pity, and sometimes it feels condescending almost? I get he's a kid, but he's also a grown man.
Another thing is the whole he's a kid thing, it's handled kind of awkwardly. It's always acknowledged that he's a grown man in a kids body, but also he acts like a child in the weirdest ways, especially with the female characters. He's excessively asking for hugs, head pats, and sometimes laying on the laps of women he constantly claims are beautiful. It's a little uncomfortable. Platonic most of the time, but still a little weird for a grown man in a kids body. He also cries a lot (which i don't have a problem with) but it feels unearned, like "oh, I want him to be sad now... Tadaa" and then he cries. Doesn't feel totally earned even if appropriate for the situation.
For grammer and writing, it's pretty solid. Some mistakes but otherwise not bad.
Pacings a little varied, with some time skips and age skips. Kind of brushed off but ok.
World building is probably my favorite part, I just wish it was mor - Anne_BronteeRoyal Road★★★ 3.0The story starts off fun with solid progress, a little rough around the edges. But overall the setting and world building is fun—nothing new but a nice twist.
Nothing terribly interesting about the MC but there is a start of a journey.
I really enjoyed the concept of humans fleeing a destroyed world and having to rebuild/survive. The author started the story with a fun scenario and could develop the plot in many ways.
However once the MC becomes a “master” the story plot stops and the genre of the novel changes to meandering slice of life that is boring for me.
I could not get past chapter -140. So I skipped 100 chapters and realized the plot still has yet to move.
The story lacks internal reasoning and as the chapters go on it becomes more annoying and frustrating. He starts out as a solo character risking his life for greater rewards, but for some reason he starts to train a group as their peer-child-master?
The crafting narrative is boring but I generally find crafting sub plots boring (this might be a me thing) but this world lacks cohesiveness to make it engaging.
I would give the story 4/5 (royalroad rating) for the first 70 or so chapters but it gets boring repetitive quick.
But past 140 the novel is 2/5. Unless there is a rewrite to fix the genre change I will not read more.
