Description

Elias Varnen was never meant to be a hero. A blacksmith with an obsession for alloys and a life of solitude, he’s more comfortable in his forge than among people. But when he’s inexplicably transported to a strange new world, his skills in metallurgy might be the only thing keeping him alive.

Stranded in a world where magic shapes the very metal he crafts, Elias finds himself granted not only strange new abilities but also a chance to rebuild his life from the ground up. But survival in this new realm isn’t as simple as hammering steel and shaping ingots. With every strike of his hammer, he discovers more about the magic-infused metals and the unexpected power they wield.

As Elias hones his craft, he begins to realize that the world around him is full of both opportunity and danger. But with every weapon forged, every alloy perfected, the line between craft and creation begins to blur. Elias isn’t just making tools and weapons—he’s forging his own destiny.

With little more than his knowledge and a will to push forward, Elias must learn to navigate this unfamiliar land, face new challenges, and possibly… forge connections he never thought he needed.

A tale of craftsmanship, magic, and self-discovery awaits. In a world where every creation has a price, Elias is about to learn the true cost of his craft.

Only eight chapters this far, but I'm hooked. There is no monster to defeat, no foe to vanquish, or threat to overcome, but simply the goal for the MC to be a great crafter.
In most stories, when the protagonist is offered a godly class option, they choose it. Not so with Elias. He picks the option that is personal to him. No gimmicks or flashy tricks, but simply advancing the fundamentals required for true comprehension of his craft.
This story thus far is about the character and the process more than the setting and plot. I think that is why I like it so well. It's different than a lot of other stories here on RR.

Loving this story so far. I've always been a fan of slice of life crafting type stories and this story has hit all my buttons :-) keep up the great writing. The main character is awesome someone completely dedicated to his craft and always looking to improve his craft and works

Not much to say, good smithing story, great plot. Just a little bit too… uhm. Too many adjectives not enough character development is all. 4 1/2 for me, since these problems will probably buff out as the author writes. I look forward to seeing how the story turns out and hope the author looks at this small criticism and revises the initial chapters after enough experience writing this wonderful story, also you(author) mention something a character can do, yet he hasn't actually used it at all, despite having a great opportunity to make him use it, a little confusing.

I wanna give it more but the characters are quite weak and the story is practically non-existent. There are a couple spots where it feels like the story just skips over important details. Like going from being a grimy dude sleeping in a forge to being called the head smith in the workshop. Same sort of thing happens with the enchanting stuff, it feels like we are jumping around.
The size of the town feels inconsistent as well. It's both just a small place with a single forge, squat buildings in a bacwarer while also bring able to support multiple fancy workshops. It's both a backwards noble and able to commission a bunch of vanity pieces. He's both bad at decoration to the point he can't make a hilt but then somehow also good at it to the point he can design a ceremonial gauntlet?
He was obsessed with metallurgy and explicitly only made trinkets and commissions rarely. An articulated gauntlet is not trivial but any means. It feels disjointed and like anything this guy decides too do will "just work" if it is something that actually matters. Especially with how the system is glazing him, it all feels unearned which is ironic when the character is supposed to be so hard working.
The story is interesting when talking about metals but making the story as disinterested in other characters as much as the MC (outside of how cool they think the mc is) is a poor choice. I want to like this more but find little reason to, I might as well just get a book on metallurgy and write stat sheets randomly throughout it before skipping to a programming text.
Finally just show instead of repeatedly telling me how cool, dedicated, and focused he is. Show me and save your words for interesting things.
