Description

Jake Thorne is in trouble. He lost his job in AI safety; he recycled all his possessions; he's at the end of his rope in a doomed future.Fortunately, there's another world that still has some use for him. Yakumo Yukari offers him a deal he can't refuse: immigrate to Gensokyo and escape those pesky troubles of the real world.Unfortunately, he's not the only person who wants to escape to the land of fantasy. Now he has to deal with a human village overflowing with nerdy Touhou fans. Hyper focused nerds; buff nerds; well-dressed nerds; asinine nerds. How can he stand out among a crowd like that? How can he achieve happiness in Gensokyo when he's just another dude, and when all the cute youkai are (probably) terrible monsters out to kill them all? He came to Gensokyo to escape that! And what are Yukari's plans for hundreds of Touhou nerds, anyway? He needs to figure these things out before it's too late.(Call it Yukari Gapped Me for short. Art by Naufaldreamer. Updating weekly, nominally on Wednesdays.)

So to start off with something that bugged me hearing someone criticize as it leads to the rest of the review.  Early on the protagonist has little anatomy.  This is intentional.  The description references that it is an uphill battle for them to gain it.
The village is told early on the place they are on exists for youkai.  And it is made clear that the residents are not that interested in hearing the changes newcomers suggest.  This leads the protagonist to believing that that the humans there are just seen as food.
The journey in this story is of two things.  Them gaining anatomy and influence to make a difference and learning that things are not black and white.  That the youkai are also motivated to survive.
It is an exploration of the protagonist overcoming their past and growing to try and help others.  as well as an exploration of morality regarding beings who are clearly non human in nature.  as well as learning that change is not as simple as many isekai protagonists would assume it to be.
One last note is this story has an interesting battle system.  To avoid settling things through lethal combat instead character's attacks inflict their feelings on others.  The capability to use this way of fighting is tied to character growth for the humans.

I love it. what started as me curiously checking a novel out, has turned into an obsession. Sometimes the style or the Grammer turn out weird....but I can't stop myself from loving this novel.
Even if I'm not much of a Touhou fan, I found the explanations good and informative and not too annoying.
So keep up the good work Blasted0glass

I am writing this at 6 am in the morning after running through about 100 chapters of YYGMtAW; NITitHVFuPTM. The worst part of this story is the bad title. The best part of this story is the story.
I started reading this book without any knowledge of Touhou. If you asked me to name three Touhou characters, I could maybe give you a mental image of a shrine maiden, but I couldn't tell you their name. 1000+ pages later, I'm sitting her sobbing about how tragically everything has gone and give you a list of characters I'm suddenly most attracted to (despite not actually knowing what any of them look like.) I am taking everything written here as the cannon for Touhou for all my future opinions and discussions on it - and I hope its all correct.

Love this story from start to present, the pacing is set really well and im always checking for new chapters.
Author really knows how to keep you hooked even with just general world building and character interactions, on top of all that i also love the fight scenes as they are just described so well.
Overall this is 100% my favourite fanfic ever, 10/10
(PS i have never read any other touhou fics or even played the games so this fic is very good for people who dont know about touhou)

The title may seem quite silly, but while the story certainly does have its share of humor, there is far more to it than that. Kind of like Touhou in that way; cute anime girls and pretty patterns at first glance, but when you go deeper... suffice to say, things are often not as they appear.
There is also tragedy, a pinch of romance, and a dash of horror among other themes—the perfect blend for the setting.
While it has a lot of the characters you know and love (or not), there is also a wealth of Original Characters... as you might have guessed by the title. The character writing is pretty great, each one of them feeling unique, alive, and, in the case of the Touhou characters, more than just the usual stereotypes/jokes of them you see in the fandom.
The story itself is also fully original—no rehashing of game plotlines here—yet adhering as best as it can to the lore while still trying to make sense of it all as a living world and ecosystem.
The one, quite subjective, improvement I would wish for would be for Ran Yakumo to play a bit of a bigger role... but that's just the insatiable fluff lust in me speaking rather than an actual critique of the story.

To those who don't know touhou, it's written in a way where you can probably read it without Meta context. Almost everything I'd laboriously explained and a character exists whose sole purpose is to monologue.
To those that do know touhou, this hits that perfect mix of comfy slice of life and action with an undertone of dread; exactly how I'd imagine Gensokyo to function. The girls are friendly though there is an obvious inhumane aspect to a lot of them. Chapter 19/20 or so is where I feel you could make a decision on if you like this novel. Keep up the good work, this is my favorite fan fic I've read for touhou.

Tried this because of the whacky title, but stayed for the absolutely excellent story. Probably my favorite ongoing webnovel of any kind at the moment now, not just fanfiction in general. Very high praise on all counts.
    MC: 8/10
Positives - Strong views, determined, lives in his own head frequently. He's the type of MC who lives in that happy range where he is likeable by the readers, engaging for the Important Peoples in universe, but remains socially awkward in situations with the masses. He makes you want to get to know him if you invest the time into it, but can come off as a complete weirdo at a glance. He makes mistakes, but actually learns and grows from them without fumbling on the same things over and over. Those who fight monsters are destined to become one :D
Negatives - He's slow to grow, and even once he starts growing, he remains relatively weak in the grand scale. More than that, while he isn't a 'I have to hide my powerlevel!' type of MC, he is frequently put into situations where he is shown off at a social level as even weaker than he actually is, often being compared negatively to other characters in story who pull off things he cannot-and not just in the 'oh, obviously the MC isn't a sniper specialist so the sniper guy will snipe better', but legitimately performing more poorly in his specialty than his equals. Theres complex context for that, but it DOES come up frequently enough to be aware of, and is rather less to my taste.
    Setting - 10/10
Never knew this setting before this fic, never played a Touhou game in my life. Not only does this author bring the setting to life, making every character feel fully fleshed out and a natural part of the universe, his descriptions are on point every time. After catching up, I watched some music videos on Touhou, and I recognized every design of every character I'd never seen before. People are all charming, but flawed, and every character is at least a little more than they seem at a glance. The powerset o

The story is very well structured, there is drama, action, intrigue and essentially everything you would want in a story.
The protagonist is highly unique, being someone who worked with regulating AI in a futuristic world where LLM and generative inteligences have done a soft takeover.
Its fascinating because it uses our modern understanding of AI instead of the old one, which is something i havent seen anywhere else and definetely didnt expect to find it in a Touhou fanfic.
Unlike what you would expect the AI plotline fits surprisinly well with the themes seen in touhou of modernity/science vs tradition/folktales.
The relation between humans and youkai is equally fascinating, being tende, complicated and deep. The youkai are alien, not merely powerfull humans.
Overall it does wonderfully as a stand alone story, but as a fanfiction it expands and explores the themes and concepts of the original games.
My biggest complain however, would be the pacing once we reached the expeditions, which slowed down tremendously. Though it seems that things are picking up again.

For what there is, it's pretty good.
It's still in the beginning stages of introducing characters / getting settled in.
Though, a plot thread to pursue, or actual growth/improvement is needed I feel.
Also, something that makes us stand up and notice the character is growing; which you seem to have covered pretty well. Just don't drag it on for too long, anyway.
Also, I'd recommend posting this on other sites like Spacebattles or Sufficient Velocity to get it out there.

So far I’ve been quite enjoying this little series and hope to see it has a lot more chapters to come. I’d absolutely would hate to see this story lost and abandoned like many other Touhou stories on this sight. I’m not a bot I’m just trying to fill the word count
