Community Rating
Description
Evelyn is a renown Knight-Enchanter, nicknamed "The Phoenix" for her magical prowess and mutation. Having worked alongside Templars for the last decade, she has more opportunities than most mages. After the events at Kirkwall, her Circle falls to the chaos of the Mage Rebellion. Rumor has it that she was it's cause, but is it true? When the Divine invites her to speak at the Conclave, she is eager to help but has no idea what is in store for her. Fueled by truma and duty, she finds a kindred spirit in Cullen who reaches out to help them both out of their own darkness. The more they they share, the more it seems the Maker weaves the threads of their fate together, tighter and tighter.
Ghosts from the past, forced red lyrium consumption, powerful magic, battles, grievous wounds, family reunions, beautiful friendships, humor, and heartfelt moments await Evelyn & Cullen.
This is a slow burn romance of Evelyn & Cullen, picking up later with courtship and navigating through love's trials through a crisis.
This is a Dragon Age Inquisition alternate-canon fanfiction. Knowledge of the game will enhance your understanding of the things talked about. The characters and world of Thedas belong to Bioware.

- NyxyCatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall Score: An easy 5. The first few chapters introduce the reader to the MC and several original characters who play a role throughout the story. The author covers some of the controversial politics surrounding the Mage Rebellion through plot and dialogue. The story's timeline centralizes around the DAI game canon, both focusing and touching on the main game plot, while building in an original story around the MC. There is great action, romance, and tons of drama! I highly recommend this if you are looking for a fresh take on an oldie but goodie!
Style Score: The story is very readable, making use of flashbacks, changes in POV between two of the characters, and diverse vocabulary.
Story Score: I love the ups and downs, the action scenes, and the complex character relationships. All this happens while touching on the game's more popular points. The author humanizes the hero Inquisitor by giving you a glimpse into her past and the original characters that accompany her through the story. They mesh nicely with the Bioware characters that we all know and love, including the love interest Commander Cullen. There are thoughtful scenes debating the age old mage vs. Templar problem, including that between Evelyn (mage) and Cullen. If you are concerned because it is labeled a romance with the sexual content warning, do not fear, it is not some sappy romance story and the author gives warning as to if there is content to beware of. On a side note, I do believe the few intimate scenes are not done on a whim, but have substance within the plot.
Grammar Score: Few mistakes, and the author does note that she goes back to review and update the story periodically.
Character Score: I think the MC is very likable even if you do not agree with her Circle politics. She is both serious and sarcastic at times and is my no means the perfect hero. Evelyn is a team player who has strong beliefs, yet is also a realist just trying to make the world a better place. As mentioned, the author - Sovurvior98Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is my favorite DAI fic so far! It has everything: plot, romance, friendship and memorable villains. To be honest, Cory was as bland and boring as they come, so the original game lacked a really interesting villainy. This story remedied that and introduced one of my favorite OC's who added some extra spice to the plot. Seriously, guys, give this a try, you won't regret it.
- ThousandLeavesRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It is interesting, but I will most likely not read further, because it is too character-focused for me. It is just a matter of taste, as I prefer fast paced books with less character drama. I also prefer for the fan fictions to go a little wild with the original plot and that does not appear to be the case here.
Still, it is a good read for those who want to dig more into the relationships of the characters.
