Description

Death is a real son of a bitch.

Boyd Knight found his calling when he joined the Marines and qualified for the elite Force Recon. He’d found a tribe and a family, so when a hand grenade landed near his team, he jumped on it without thought or regret.

But instead of winding up dead, he wakes up butt naked in a cave full of monsters with a knife in one hand and a pistol in the other. He’s been hand chosen by the Five-Faced God of Justice and entrusted with the power of the Vigil Bound. Every kill makes him stronger and thanks to theAscendant System, Boyd can level up, unlock increasingly powerful spells, and even harness the abilities of the monsters he’s been dispatched to hunt.

If he can survive the deadly shapeshifter stalking him from the shadows, Boyd’s second life promises to be even more ass-kickingly epic than his first.

Very much like the book. The mc is great at what he does, no overpowered bs, nice pacing, I love the mystery and how he pieces the clues together, but don't try to make him less smart though, I'm pretty sure that would ruin his character, being a squad leader and all, I'm less than certain of who the Villain is already, and I love the mechanics of the system.

Story starts out similar to your normal Isekai however it starts twisting away from the common tropes with some interesting choices and pretty cool powers. The main character and cast are pretty realistic and the writing of everything is excellent so nothing is out of place/character. I also really like how even though the MC is a United States Marine and a highly experienced one at that, he isn't j3rking off the US the entire story like most stories do and says the universally agreed stuff as well as offers his own view on things (IE his country sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe poop). Also the reaction of people to him is pretty realistic, it's Witcher-esque in the fear of his power but people are smarter here and realise being an a-hole to a super dangerous monster hunter is not very conducive to surviving.
If you like having a Neutral Good MC with lots of potential to be OP and slowly getting there, then you will like this story. To sum it up (also trying to avoid spoilers), this is a Isekai story where the MC is chosen after a heroic end to help a world fight off a whole bunch of monsters and he is rewarded by his patron for every mission he completes. It's pretty funny too (in my opinion).
I'm giving it a 5 stars cause I honestly haven't found any flaws and I'm sure you can find some if you go looking but if you have to looking for tiny problems to drag the story down then thats a nice indicator that its a good story.

So far this story is action packed, well pased, and is the right amount of funny. It takes an all too rair approch to isekai by having a MC that is basically compatent prior to being sent to a new world (as opposed to being some rando with no applicable skills). Definatly worth a read.

This is not your typical Isekai, this has a good begining which makes it very different and maybe believable.  It has a few twist in that Vigil Bound are expected in the world and it is ready for them to appear.  Boyd has a hard/funny/testing learning curve to get with the Vigil Bound program but his USMC training does help!  Boyd has has a step learning curve.

It's a pretty standard progression fantasy / isekai so far. Basic setup, characters are stock, protagonist is powerful (with women throwing themselves at him to a laughable degree - the novel really needs to ease up on that) and the plot is predictable. Plot points make enough sense for your brain to gloss over them if you're not thinking about them too hard. System stuff is way too verbose and infodumpy, but you can also skip past it without really missing anything.
Virtually no new ground is broken with this one, and no part is executed exceptionally well, but everything is where it should be and done okay enough to serve its purpose in scratching that power fantasy itch.

For what it is its pretty darn great.
US Marine (he doesn't let you forget that fact, or that he's american, but not in an overly disppointing way surprisingly) gets Isekai'd to a Witcher like verse.
Well told story. Good abilities and what not. Great characters, even the annoyingly little shits you want to throttle with cold iron yourself.
Its a bit heavy on the testosterone sometimes, but it fits the story so it doesn't distract too much.
World is all kind of messed up and can't see what our dear MC stumbles into next!

The writing is done well, the story is interesting and keeps your attention. So why only 3.5 stars, the women in the story are one dimensional, and the focus tends to be on their body more than as fleshed out characters.
The MC isn't the sharpest bulb either, missing blatant red flags that made the ending predictable. I hope the next book has more well fleshed out characters.

Can't quite recommend this story to readers (yet). But it has a lot good riding on it so far.
It checks most of what I'm looking for in a litrpg: Stats are relevant, quantitatively consistent, and are not ignored whenever convenient.
For the basic story elements, our author does a fine job at not dropping the ball. It has a decent and reasonable MC, realistic side characters with fun quirky behaviors, and decent flow and arc structure.
What bothers me the most is that I felt like I wasted time after finishing the first book. It's all fluff when you look back at the time spent, which is usually fine since all good fluff stories are there for the journey. But the problem with this book is that it's arc is designed as a mini murder mystery (and later adding a deadline rush element), where payout of the fun is loaded to the end. And what are we looking for as readers?
For most litrpg stories, one part is its loot/stats, but not exactly. It's seeing the loot being used in action shortly after and seeing the MC overcoming harder odds with the additional options he's been given. But book 1 cuts most of this short.
For most of the story, were basically given no introspection on anything of substance, our MC just going with the flow. So when our MC eventually comes out on top, it's basically a Disney movie ending where he punishes all the bad actors with perfect clarity. Gives the reader nothing to ponder about after the book ends to think back on.
Heck, even the smut was denied to the readers, all being conveniently offloaded off screen at the end. What demographic are you targeting author?
Basically the author only cares that this story is perceived as epic, making sure to remind you of this in many parts of the story. I don't about you, but most actual epic stories I know don't need to include "ass-kickingly epic" in the last sentence of their book.
You can't force an authentic epic experience; focus on creating a great story with bursts of payout mixed within an arc, and

This is a litrpg murder mystery.
It was extremely easy to figure out who the big bad was.
Towards the end of the book the MC spends five days fighting monsters. We don't get to go with him, instead we are just told about it. Personally I felt like this hurt the story.

Don't bother with this one, you only get the first 5 chapters of book one and then the author tries to send you to kindle to get the rest. The story itself seemed good enough but I cannot and will not support this unnecessary bait and switch to try and draw more sales
