Very Very First Draft: Reason For Being

-ie wants to die and there is only one reason he still has not killed himself, the promise he had made forces him to do his best to survive.

Life has been a monotonous cycle of repeatedly throwing himself into direst situations, somehow surviving, returning to the settlement, and then setting out again but as he returns this time, ripples of change spread through his stagnant reality and he finally sees a light that illuminates the path to his desire.
