You can see how much effort and love have gone into this story just by reading a few chapters.
The story follows our hero Kyle as he explores a dark world. Some of the content can be uncomfortable, but I think the author has handled it in a mature and thoughtful way.  It's a gritty world, with tons of depth being hinted at in various places.  From what I've seen thus far, the magic system is novel and interesting, and I look forward to exploring it in more depth as Kyle gets into its meat later on.
The prose is spot on. There were no issues that forced me out of the story in terms of grammar or typos (I don't think I've seen a single typo so far). I have zero complaints on that score.
The style is not my usual cup of tea, if I'm honest, but it is easy to read and very evocative in places.
The characterisation is very smooth, everyone feels distinct, and they have been internally consistent so far.
I think the author has crafted something really special here and I look forward to seeing how the story develops once more chapters become available.  I've enjoyed it well enough to be confident these ratings will not need to be changed at a later date.

You really get the feel of a dark fantasy that's full of a ruthless world, and what makes the dark atmosphere so impactful is the genuine warmth and care u see expressed that makes the tragedy and stuff impactful. its also full of mystery and so many things that are hinting to a larger part of the story that really show that this story was thought out and has plenty of promise for a long and enjoyable ride. Also seahorses have male pregnancy instead of female pregnancy, use this fact to say someones spirit animal is a seahorse if they're annoying u or u just feel like confusing them

Now that Shardbound has reached 20 chapters and is also on Rising Stars, I felt compelled to leave a review.
This is not a story for the faint of heart. If you struggle with darker themes, especially emotional trauma, cruelty toward the protagonist, and intense psychological breakdowns for the sake of character development, this may not be for you.
One scene in the first 15 chapters evoked the same disturbing intensity as the infamous SA scene from Berserk. If that sounds like too much, it’s better to walk away than leave an unfair review.
That said, the writing is clean, immersive, and grammatically solid. The prose is easy to follow without being simplistic. Fight scenes are engaging, character interactions feel grounded, and everyone stays true to their personalities.
The first dozen chapters are steeped in darkness, SA themes, cruelty, despair, all fitting the gritty tone of the world. The author clearly put in a lot of effort: there’s a well-crafted map, character art, and a captivating intro chapter that immediately sets the mood.
While the main plot is just beginning to take shape, the worldbuilding and lore are intriguing, especially the unique Shard and Contract systems. It’s a slow burn, but the payoff starts around Chapter 16, where Kyle finally snaps and begins his path of vengeance. That moment was peak.
Overall, Shardbound feels like a compelling blend of Lord of the Mysteries, Shadow Slave, Berserk, maybe even The Beginning after the End, and other grim medieval fantasies. Definitely worth following if you enjoy dark, character-driven tales.

So I decided to leave a follow and guess what I'm number 100 HAHAHA
So, I had originally had the good fortune of being one of the first readers of this Ganu-written tale (the first 10 chapters or so), and over the months it looks like an IMMENSE amount of time and effort has gone to polishing this up.
From what I can tell in the first few chapters, the story has a power system centered around Shards and contracts - and in this world's admittedly suggestive undertones of female-healing, we immediately have a hook. A dark and sensual hook that oozes style and immediate stakes and which harkens back to the golden age of dark fantasy--if you've ever read Conan the Barbarian, you'll know what I mean!
And I find myself rooting for MC against the evil and sleazy Rowan, who really is one of those love-to-hate types. Hopefully MC throttles him soon enough and saves his Mom.
In any case, there are mysteries here it will be a pleasure to peel back, but the story is still in its early stages, so let's see!
No issues with grammar. Technically polished.
(N.B., definitely excited to see where this goes, especially RE the mystery of the Shards. I'll revisit this review in awhile)

I've read some dark books over the years, some that I wouldn't read again because they went beyond grim dark, down a dark alley that was filthy with trash and smells. So believe me when I say there is immoral by my standards, there is immoral by another cultures standards, and then there is just wrong.
The cultural morality of this story blurs the lines between the first and second category. Which is great, as this is not the world we grew up in! The author has created a society that is interesting in its similarities and differences, providing comfortable parallels and shocks at many turns.
The MC is likeable, though naive at first, and has agency that is not always on the same level as his ability. And I love an MC that needs growth! I don't want to say too much, as I don't want to spoil anything. The villains introduced so far in this story are a mix, with one so far that I despise with a passion.
Some word choices I take issue with, but not enough to take away from my enjoyment of the story, the empathy I feel for certain characters, and the sheer dislike of other characters. And really, isn't that what we all want? A story that pulls us in, makes us feel for the characters, and makes us root for the good guys?
One more thing about the magic system. I usually am not one for magic systems where its a born-with trait across the board. But there is much, much more to this one than just everyone gets magic.
I'm excited to see what happens next. I really want to know who is behind it all, and where the intrigue takes the MC!

This story is many things: original, creative, interesting, fantastical yet realistic, emotional, well-written—and abandoned.
The author starts off very well. Even though the plot stumbles for a few chapters and things get a bit confusing, the story remains consistently strong and intriguing. Once past the initial confusion, the rhythm tightens, and I found myself deeply attached and eager to keep reading.
Its originality within the isekai genre is a major highlight—where so many stories recycle the same tropes, this one dares to stand apart. The characters feel likable and believable, and the writing style manages to balance a steady, detailed pace that keeps you wanting more.
It would be a five-star story, if only it weren’t abandoned.

Kyle Darkstone kicks off with a really cool, unsettling dream sequence about cards and jokers that sets a mystical vibe before dropping us into Kyle's world. He's this oddly weary kid who gets skills from Visions. A smart way to level him up. His life with his healer mom, Illaria, gets torpedoed by local corruption and a bigger conspiracy, lighting a fire under him and unearthing some wild secrets about who he really is.
The magic system, with its Shards, Contracts, and the dangerous Eclipsing for guys, feels pretty solid and creates natural conflict. Kyle's shift from jaded teen to a kid burning with a need for revenge (that "No Remorse" chapter is intense) is compelling. The story moves fast, packing in personal tragedy, nasty villains like Rowan, and then these huge reveals about Kyle's royal lineage. Illaria is a strong, tragic figure, and the arrival of Lucas and Lea definitely ups the stakes and expands the world.
A few things could be smoother. Sometimes the lore about the magic or the world's history comes at you all at once, and Kyle's "onyx eyes" and tired look get mentioned a lot. The toughest part is how Illaria's healing is portrayed – the forced intimacy with guys like Rowan is a brutal, powerful plot point showing her sacrifice and the world's cruelty. But, the descriptions of her, even from Kyle's POV, sometimes stray into "male gaze" territory and need a careful touch to keep the focus on her trauma, not just her body. There are also a couple of "just in time" rescues or convenient plot turns that, while standard, stand out a bit.
But overall, these first 20 chapters build a genuinely interesting, often grim, fantasy world. Kyle's got a hell of a journey ahead, and the setup with his mom, his powers, and his surprise destiny is strong. It's definitely showing a world with real consequences. I'm honestly curious to see what Kyle does next and if he can pull off saving his mother.

The style is solid, grammar without complain and characters and story are very well done.
    Buut..
I don't like NTR and this is the poster child of it. I realy would have appreciated the heads up. As after 15 chapters the NTR is still going strong I'm giving up on this, no hard feelings, yeah?
Sorry I decked the rating, but its not my cup of tea, then again if you did warn me I wouldn't read it and I wouldn't rate it. And since I ended up dropping the story despite its obviuos quality, solely because of the disgruntlement I felt I believe the score is justified.
But wait, I warned you, you say. There's indeed, looking back, warnings od sexual assault, but that's different from NTR. The way the main character suffers in silence as his loved one is all but sold to sexual slavery, the powerlessness of it is not something I can stand. If she was raped and he went on xianxia worthy revenge spree, that be fine, Just taking like a wuss though... ehh no thank you.
I understand the bad actors are powerful beyond his means, but magic. I feel like its gonna go murder way in the later half. Fifteen chapters of it though is too much.
