Description

“Then the first move is yours to make. Come at us however you wish!” At the end of the road, only one was left standing against the greatest of Tyrants… and he could not dethrone the monster alone. The party of four had set out on a journey to destroy the wicked Exaltare, ruler of the Vampires.Departing from the Human Kingdom was the Stardust Champion Mizar, chosen by the Goddess to render salvation unto humanity. Accompanying him was a virtuous priest, whose kindness would drive him to offer up his own flesh and blood to the needy if not for his compatriots’ insistence; a retired knight, who’d once served as lieutenant-commander to the third of of the Kingdom’s five chivalric orders; along the way, they stumbled across a lady Wizard, who wielded knowledge and wisdom beyond her years to guide them. She proved to be an invaluable addition to the party. Yet just before they stormed the palace, misfortune befell them until only the Hero and the veteran remained. And the veritable Demon Lord’s Lair would not permit both to face its master. But instead of the death he expected, what awaited him was mercy, a new role, and a cruel twist of fate as his new life began… —as the Exaltare’s daughter. Updates on Mondays at 3PM GMT. I'll probably make this an advanced review when the story's a bit longer. So far at least, this is an extremely engaging story. There are interesting, multifaceted characters with believable motivations, there is detailed worldbuilding promising a much larger world than we see, there is competent political intrigue (which is very rare on this site sadly), and there is lgbtq+ rep, which i like a lot.
    very much worth a read

The primary thrust of this story is that of identity transformation. The protagonist goes from being a 45 year male human with a strong sense of justice to a (roughly 9-year old equivalent) vampire princess who is heir to a very powerful and oppressive empire. The story is very much catered at those who get enjoyment at seeing identity transformation. The gender bender aspect is certainly part of the identity exploration, but it isn't the entirety of it. Much of it also involves the protagonist adjusting to their vampirism, new age, status, and conflict with their original sense of justice.
The story is told though a mix of both character-driven arcs that are low stakes and more focused on developing the protagonist's relationship with others and the world in general as well as more adventurous arcs with higher stakes and action sequences taking up a more primary role. As the story progresses, other character POVs become more common, but it remains primarily focused on the protagonist.
Normally, I would also discuss downsides, but I don't think this story really has any. The grammar, prose, plotting, and characters are all good. I will say that tonally it has exaggerated expressiveness in the sort of anime/manga way, which may be a turn-off for some people.
For those of you who are seeking identity transformation stories, this is the best written one I have seen on this site.

So far in the reading experience, even though it's early in, it's a nice, pleasant, and heart-warming (?) story, though there are hints of despair.
Because imagine that you're becoming sent to kill a powerful being and then you get turned into her daughter where you forget a lot of things and a lot of your friends are dead and you have to drink blood to surv-
I'd recommend that you give it a try as the author releases more chapters. So if you see this author, keep on going!
The mother loves her kid, too adorable. Just confused where she...just forgot that he would have qualms about drinking blood when he was sent to kill her and had been told vampires were enemies for his entire life...?
Otherwise, pretty sweet. It's descriptive and interesting (to me), and I want to learn more about the world of this story. Leaving this review because there's none yet and I hope this story gets more of a glance.^^
Grammar: Fine, didn't see any mistakes. While reading this, I realized that almost all the stories I read on this website don't use tabs...
    Style: Was pleasant to read.

dude, this story is in the perfect tone, it's almost like some of Chinese gender-bending web novels that we can find on mtl websites("Millennium witch" or "Forced to Become a Pure and Innocent Female Pharmacist in Order to Cultivate Immortality" for example), but of course with a western storytelling and a much better English writing
wish that more people could write some stories like this in this website

    Great story.
In Vampire and the Dayspring Star, Matoi has begun a story that feels *true* in the nebulous way of all good fiction---those works which while telling a story of magical worlds and fantastic adventures nevertheless strike the reader with the inescapable impression that the author is writing more deeply about the human condition and further is reaching out from beyond the page to speak to them as a person.
This reader confesses to have come away from the first few chapters with insight into her own relationship with her parents, and how she finds it lacking, in ways she wasn't fully aware she felt before reading this very story.

First of all, I want to say that I'm not actually a fan of the premise and of forcefem stuff, so this review is written IN SPITE of me not really being attracted to the basic hook of the story.
But this is so well done, it just doesn't matter.  The characters are believable, the plot well written, the action is competent when present and the storyline progresses in believable ways.  The conflicts between protagonist and antagonists are complex and multi layered and based on realistic differences of opinion rather than cartoonish evil plots by mustache twirling villains.
It is a complex story which poses philosophical questions and has left me hooked.  Definitely recommend to everyone, whether you're actually interested in reading a story about a grown up middle aged man being turned into a ten year old girl vampire or not.
Anyways, I very much looking forward to what happens next.  Can't wait for all of our protagonists friends to discover that they used to be a human man.  Can't wait to see if they reunite our protagonist princess with the human princess who used to be his charge as a knight.
I will say that some of the upper nobility of the vampires seem to be one dimensional idiot turd people, but they aren't really the primary antagonists and are more like tools of those antagonists.

At first glance at the synopsis, I expected this story to be exactly like the previous "guy gets made into royal vampire daughter" stories I've read, but wow was I mistaken!
This story is incredibly well written. The author brought me to tears as they explored the themes of self-worthlessness and a mother's unconditional love. It's so sad and heartwarming and distressing and sweet.
Give it a try if you like feeling things!

This is one of the best stories I have read in quite a while.
The writing is perfect. The storytelling is even better.
The overall concept is similar to some of the translated web novels from the East, i.e, Vampire Queen bites man, transforms him into vampire pureblood daughter. Raises them as a princess. Essentially that. But the other novels have less appealing writing (translations?) and plot development. This one has the MC stick with the Mother (grudgingly at first) and fulfill her duties as a princess.
Honestly that's probably the best direction for it to go. Most the other web novels with a similar concept have the MC leave the Vampire Queen to be rebellious and go off on random adventures and stuff, which quite frankly is really boring. I'm glad this story did not go that direction. The Vampire Queen and MC's relationship, and the vampire politics related are SUPER interesting. I'm far more interested in seeing the plot move more in that direction, rather than away from it.
You want multi-dimensional characters with realistic emotions? You got it.
You want fluffy love and sweet moments? You got it!
Sweet motherly love? You got it.
A reason to care? Well...that part is up to you. But I encourage it.

There is the one glaring flaw to the work, which is that it ends. Which is, frankly, really not nice, but, otherwise, I really, really love it!
I have at times noticed some minor flaws in plot congruency due to the serial nature of the work, but they have personally not hampered the fun of this work in the slightest.
It presents curious dynamics and lovely written characters, interesting lore and the occasional moral problem. The writing and choice of words I have also found quite engaging.
    Certainly do recommend.

The characters in this story are done well. Lycoris especially feels real and realistic. Learning her backstory as part of Lycoris’ burgeoning identity crisis makes for a very interesting first few chapters, and means that at no point there is a boring infodump of her backstory or personality.
Other characters, Athena especially, are shallower and tropy-er, but in a way that doesn’t take away much from the story as they all serve their respective purposes. Other characters seem shallow for now, especially from Lycoris’ perspective, but are hinted to have more depth which will hopefully be revealed later on.
The plot itself, at least as of right now, is rather simple, but is executed elegantly during the first “act” (Everything until the first bunch of interludes). At times, the author uses secondary characters rather apparently as plot-devices, but aside from a few occasions (at time of writing this, two) where that happens, the plot is driven by the characters and their actions.
During the second “act”, however, the plot becomes more complex, or rather, convoluted with the wider politics of Tenebreimen also playing a role. The politics are, simply put, boring, as they are treated less as a tool which the protagonist can use or a challenge Lycoris has to overcome, but as a nuisance which the characters have to deal with. (Or, if interpreted uncharitably, a convoluted scheme to get Lycoris to where she needs to be to advance her character arc)
Another aspect introduced in the second “act” is action, as a significant part of the second “act” consists of fight scenes. These are a mixed bag. For the most part, they are interesting to read and advance the story, but at times (as of writing this, once) they also drag on for much longer than necessary.
The shortcomings in politics and some of the action scenes are however easily outweighed by Lycoris’ inner conflict, which in the second “act” continues to be the driving force behind the plot and only becomes more interesti
