Description
A wondrous world, tainted by a cruel society. A plot to tear it down, replacing it with an Ideal structure. A creature of distortion and something alien… telling him to stop and smell the roses? Something is off about this unfamiliar Pokemon, and N will find the Truth no matter how many conspiracies or odd detours stand in his way. An AU that mixes aspects of the anime and games, set prior to the events of Black and White, told through various perspectives and focused on the misadventures of N and an out-of-place Mimikyu.

- Chr GorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A lot of Pokemon stories have the same sort of feel to them, to the point it gets a bit repetitive. This is a unique enough take to feel fresh and enjoyable. I am excited to see where it goes, and the world building is wonderful. Explanations have been provided for some discrepancies in the anime and games that I liked. And I saw no problems with grammar, and more importantly no problems with sentence structure/flow. You know those stories that are technically using correct spelling but just don't read right? None of that here.
- DragaliaLostRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've seen people complain about the plot, but honestly, with the way this author writes relationships between characters, the plot could go into a paper bag and I'd still read it. This is a lot more entertaining to me than just going around a region. I tend to skim sometimes, especially when I'm tired, but I never found myself skimming here. With one of the main characters being N, you have to be good at writing a lot of pokemon as characters, and the author really nailed it. Even parts where pokemon are only with them for a little while (the Dusclops was my favorite), I found very fun to read. I was surprised by how much I ended up liking the dynamic between Dawn and N (honestly Dawn is written really well here too). Things also actually have consequences here. It's nice to see people go WTF at Ash's adventures.
Battles are also written well. I find them hard to write, and they're also stiff to read when the writer is new/bad at writing them, but I never skimmed here (which I tend to do when they're stiff).
Anyway, even with the giant word count, nothing really felt like filler. Not exactly in a way that propels the plot forward, but just in a "is this entertaining or not?" sort of way, which I personally care about more. I don't know how many times I've read isekai stories that are so obsessed with being dark and gritty and following a plot of extremely cruel villains they wound up utterly boring. This fic does get dark here and there, but in a more natural way than picking up a hammer and going " this NEEDS to be realistic, battles should constantly be near fatal actually." - Astral CrystalRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The style is excellent, it's easy to understand what's happening and the pacing is really good since a chapter never feels like filler and there is also progress being made plot wise while skipping over the boring parts of the journey and some stuff that would take way to many chapters to describe. The pov shifts are handled very well too. Another thing I appreciate is that this story doesn't tell you all the secrets immediately and let's you come to your own conclusions on certain stuff.
Story: The story is amazing and I really like it. The way the pokemon world is presented is very fun and the ways the author tries to explain and inegrate anime and game Phenomenon into an actual pokemon world is very interesting and well put. There are lots of secret things and conspiracies going on in the background which make it even better.
Grammar: The grammar is great I only saw one error throughout the story.
Character: The characters are excellent, the two main characters are great and fit very well together. The other characters the mcs meet are great as well and are much deeper and complex than their anime/game counterparts. So far there hasn't been a character I disliked when it comes to their portrayal and there is character development by the mcs and other characters as well. I also really like the interactions various characters have.
In conclusion I really like this story, it's amazing and I can't wait to see more. Although it did ruin my sleep schedule since I didn't want to sleep to keep reading. - Mudit101Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's pretty good. If you liked N in Pokemon Black , you're gonna enjoy this. Mimikyu and N's chemistry is very nice. The story also handles the gameplay changes Gamefreak made in an interesting way. The author's writing style is straightforward and it suits the story. The story is a composite of the games+anime. You'd like it.
- BelligerentGnuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Simple, sweet and very well written. A gruff but well-meaning man is isekaied into a Mimikyu, and the first person he meets is a game character who despises pokemon battling as a form of animal cruelty. They befriend each other, meet up with Ash and Co., and journey forth. Nothing really unexpected here, but the grammar is clean, the writing and characters are charming, and all in all it's a very enjoyable story. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see this hit rising stars.
- kootranova1Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Just blasted through this in one day.
Really good stuff.
Pacing, character, writing - all above par.
Not once did I question my sanity while reading this fan fiction.
A major divergence between this fic and many others is the lack of direct, annoying attention towards the MC's secret origin. I always hate it when an MC just spills the beans to whoever, explaining their past and powers and etc. - ArockalypseRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The really unique thing about this one is how different N's and Mimikyu's relationship is compared to most pokemon-trainer connections in pokemon fanfictions. They are both significantly more flawed than your typical feels-good soulmate bonded pair, and their dynamic is what truly distinguishes Unbroken Disguise from the rest. N is both incredibly naive and dogmatic yet has the most compassion for pokemon. Mimikyu thinks he cares less about the people he meets than hitching a ride with Ash Ketchum to try and get back home, yet grows to actively help others even if it means putting himself in danger. Dash in politics between the leagues of each region and the evil teams and you have a wonderful story of self-discovery for man and pokemon in a world where it seems like no one in power has the best interests of people and pokemon at heart (yes even the elite four and champions)
The one thing I don't particularly like is lucas, this timeline's version of the game protagonist, and how some mechanics of the game feel quite forced, like him looting peoples' homes or finding random treasures in the wild. It's not all bad though, Lucas brings a lot of diversity to the group dynamic by being mute, and his starter's personality also pulls a lot of weight in large conversations. - 3TimRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This was pretty fun to read so far, so I really wish I waited longer before giving it a go. The pacing is solid. Very worth giving a shot. Always thought N had great potential that goes largely to waste with brainwashing. So it's nice to see him get some reality checks.
Can't wait to see where it goes, etc. - InverseIotaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Really excellent premise following N prior to the events of B/W. The interactions between N and Mimikyu are well written and it's clear that the relationship between the two still has a lot to develop. Worldbuilding is great as well, with an excellent subplot of the discovery of fairy types prior to gen 6. Looking forward to seeing where this story goes.
- Mr andersonRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Quite a good book, was able to blast through the current chapters without any sense of burnout which is always a good sign, it has quite an it resting twist in that the 'camera' is focused on n and mimikyu rather than just on mimikyu which most novel of this type would do due to the fact
That mimikyu is a reincantor which would usually take the mc position, this third person view of it which is actually pretty faithful to the anime's style also leads to the interesting bit that we don't learn much about the mimikyu right off the bat like most other story's that explain the past then ignore it for the rest of the book, but rather it remains a bit of a guessing game where its obvious and not hidden but we don't get the concrete details you would usually get
