Description

Rewrite of Had to End Sometime Humanity is welcomed into the Multi-verse with a Notification that they have Failed the Quest to be considered Civilized. Instead, Humans are designated as Monsters and Earth is the Dungeon they must defend. Our protagonists are identical twin brothers who have a chance encounter with god-like power that changes them and grants them a desperately needed edge in the coming Apocalypse. Now trapped a continent apart during the end of the world and struggling to make it through another day, they will learn that their survival has a steep price. Along for the journey is a pug who will do whatever it takes to get some snacks, belly rubs, and warm snuggles while also protecting his Dearest Humans and all his new Friends. What to Expect: Litrpg Apocalypse story. Two MC's, or three if you count the pug, with a handful of major supporting characters. Some weak to strong progression. Though our MC's start off with some serious advantages, they will have to earn everything else. Will be OP MC's but with a lot struggle as they grow in power. Chapters range from 2.5k - 6k words. Posting schedule is... basically whenever I manage to wring the next chapter out of my brain.

Let me preface this by saying that I know the author and have read both versions, including everything that has been written to date on the rewrite. Which includes the entire first arc. I know where the story is going beyond that and have talked with the author extensively about the plan for it. This makes me biased since I have a deeper insight that most readers don't which makes it harder to spot the problems. But here goes my attempt at a fair review. Take it with a grain of salt.
Style: The author has a style. I don't know what it might be called, but it is there. There is a clear lack of flowery prose and a focus on character instead. This tends to leave the backgrounds and even character descriptions to the imagination at times, but that doesn't bother me.
Grammar: Grammar is solid. Nothing to complain about. few typos here and there, but they get fixed.
Story: Love the story! Can't wait for more to get written so I can read it! Hurry up, Author! Once again, biased because I know where it's all going, but still. I want more! Occasional plot holes, but they get fixed once spotted. Big part of why this rewrite happened was some unreconcilable plot holes in the original.
Character: I think this is the strongest area of the story. The entire saga hinges on the characters, and the author has come along way on that front since the beginning. The rewrite is doing a lot to flesh out all of them much better than the original.
Summary: Read it for the story. Love it for the dog. I've met the real life inspiration for Caffeine. I'm totally biased, but yes, he is the bestest boy!

Interesting take in that the planet is iskai’d and humans made monsters, fairly standard magic and level system.  Interesting take with the twins and their pug (do not want to spoil anything).
The real star to me is caffeine and how he fits into the story, I have a pug and the author has the breed nailed. Most interesting plot wrinkle of any story I have come across and this book is worth reading just for it.

I congratulate the author on this rewrite! The beginning, is smoother now, better structured and more complete (which was a promise kept, If I am not mistaken).
I miss Stanley's early interactions with Eve a bit, they were so beutifully absurd, but I am positive similar ones will come.
Concerning the style, I think the author hast a good handle on the different characters and their perspectives. Also, the story has a good range concerning the emotional setup. You can laugh as well as cry reading it, and the laughter is never too many chapters away from the heavier parts of the story, which paint the apocalyptic setting pretty well.
The story itself is set in an apocalypse brought about by a system which decided that Humans did Not manage to become an enlightened species, thus becomimg sapient monsters on the newly integrated dungeon planet Earth. This is also true for the three main characters of the story, Lee, Stanley and the pug Caffeine. But they kind of got a head start on the whole sh*... The story unfolds around the decissions they made in that very moment, including the one to forget almost everything about that moment... So, they might have had a plan for surviving, If only they could remember it when everything goes to hell around them... They do not even know how lucky they are that Caff is such a Good Boy...
The main as well as the side characters are fleshed out well. The side characters gain depth, when the main characters take more interest in them. The focus is on the core of their beeing, Not necessarily on visuals.
Grammar is fine, nothing annoying, even typos are rare.

Basically it's quite enjoyable to read this, it's a very good story, well written, nice character development so far, decent premise which is just original enough of a spin to be something i haven't read before.
And what seems to be a solid world with simple enough rules to follow along, but not overly reductive to where its just numbers going up.

Twin Apocalypse is a rewrite of the original Had to End Sometime story.  The original is already an enjoyable read and is still up on RR.  The rewrite has diverged from the original a lot, and shows just how much the author’s storycrafting and writing skills have grown.  So, there is a lot on offer here:  two related stories and a meta story about how learning from a first draft can lead to a fundamentally different and improved second version.
The story follows twin brothers Stanley and Lee (and their pug Caffeine of course) as Earth is thrown into an apocalyptic system integration event.  The system has deemed Earth insufficiently civilized and turned it into an open-world dungeon whose inhabitants and resources are there to be harvested by competing alien invaders/delvers.  Stanley and Lee just might be cast as bosses trying to rally the survivors to fight back…
Style.  The writing is clean and does a good job of mixing dark tones appropriate to a pretty grim apocalyptic scenario with some lighter episodes focusing on character relationships, and especially Caffeine the pug, who is simply the best.  😁 The story shows the apocalypse from both twins PoVs, and occasionally Caff’s.  This is a litRPG with quite a bit of emphasis on skill & power growth wonkery.  A little heavy on that stuff for my personal taste, but it’s probably solidly in the wonkery sweet spot for many RR readers.
Story.  The story is well-paced and contains an enjoyable mix of action, character growth & exposition/world building/wonkery.  It’s solidly character & plot focused and makes readers feel for the characters as they deal with apparently insurmountable odds in clever ways.  There are rarely clean wins, and painful sacrifices happen.  Yet, they persevere & grow.
    Grammar.  Present & accounted for.
Characters.  The twins are not just siblings, but best friends.  Seeing them work together to deal with the apocalyptic invaders and ongoing world transformation even when they are physically sepa

It's a fun read, but god damn, Stanley drags the story down because the only thing that stops him from going off the rails is his dog.
Really wish there was a human or sapient being that would force the wilder twin to restraint himself a bit. I wanna make it clear that the events in the story do somewhat justify Stanley's paranoia and anger, but after 150+ chapters, he really needed a chill pill wake up, or a foil to stop his rants once he really got going
Overall the story's fun, the world building is interesting, most of the characters are great. 4.7/5, I had fun binging it

I highly recommend you give "Twin Apocalypse: Had to End Sometime" a chance.
Outside of what is possible a "Chronicles of Riddick" quote in the title, it tells the story about two twin brothers and their everloyal dog Caffeine, trying to survive, and hopefully thrive, in a deadly system-apocalypse where trust and friendship are hard to come by.
It's not all harshness and grime, though it can certainly seem like that at times, especially at the start. There are moments of genuine emotion and sweetness peppered throughout to make everything seem just a little less dark - Caffeine being the prime provider of sweetness and joy.
    Style
The overall feel when reading is pleasant. The pacing and litterary devices used feel appropriate for the given situation. For example, is discribed in short and cutting sentences during particularly pressing situations which helps the reader connect with and understand the distress of the characters. Situations outside of battle can also be intense but are often described using more longform descriptions of how the characters think and feel about the threat they are facing/discussing - slowing things down if you will. This usually creates a good deal of tension and suspense. All of this is to show that the style of writing employed by the author is both pleasant to read and easy to follow.
    Story
The story might be the weakest link (so far) in this otherwise strong piece of litterature. As said in the introduction, the story follows the twins Stanley and Lee who, by the time of the system-apocalypse hits earth, are on almost completely opposite sides of USA. The main plot is therefore, in relatively simple terms, for the two of them to find each other again. Thankfully, thanks to being twins along with system magic, they can feel the relative location of the other - like a compass. Now, this isn't a bad premise and I honestly really like the simplicity of it, however, the sheer amount of bullsh*t they have to go through (especially Stanley)

Twin Apocalypse is good "system apocalypse" stuff. The "ruins of modern city" setting feels deeper than usual, the characters have flaws that they work to overcome, the MCs have different flavors of OP powers, and the story doesn't waste time on re-hashing the same battle over and over.
I found it very readable, even though it fetches up against my personal "too much time in alternative POVs" limit.  There are two MCs and another dozen POV characters that take the focus from time to time. I haven't tallied it, but it feels to me like 35% MC1 | 35% MC2 | 30% everyone else.
If the main story conceit speaks to you, then you'll probably enjoy it: Twins in an Apocalypse LitRPG setting, with weird hidden soul power and their pug who's a super good boy that occasionally has to use his own OP powers to protect them.

I am sorry for the low score, had I read this story in any other context I would probably have rated it higher.
I read the old story "Had to End Sometime" and it was a masterpiece, the raw emotions, the conflicts, the struggles and the fights for survival. It was so amazing.
I do not know if I am idolizing it in my head, since I can no longer reread it. The original was removed from RR as the new version came out.
I gave the new version a read with high hopes and was probably expecting the story and style to somewhat match the old story, but that is very much not the case.
I cannot get myself to read any further, the original simply ranks so much higher in my mind that I get sad while reading this version.
The original was not perfect, but this is like a dull fanfiction of the original. Or oppositely; the original is like an amazing fanfiction of this story. This story is very well written but the raw artistic feeling I got from the original version is missing.
I have only read the first 9 chapters and it is probably just picking up momentum at this point in the story, but it already feels like it has skipped multiple important and amazing struggles of the original and I simply cannot get myself to continue reading.
It has been more than a year since I read the first ten chapters of the original so it might also just be the case that I do not remember the beginning anymore and I am messing it up for myself.
