Tom Cat and Murder Mittens {LITRPG, Progressive, Anthropomorphic}

Description

After losing her mother, Mittens the cat must find way her forward in life after gaining the aid of a System and thrust into the high stakes assassin life that her father Tom Cat engages in on behalf of the Covenant Church. The Covenant Church relentlessly pursues and crushes all threats to its supreme authority, from Ancestral Spirits to snake cultists. Mittens must keep the System hidden while she grows stronger. Strong enough to chart her own course in life despite being labeled a bad creature.

This story, while having dark background with the Covenant Church and the System, is on the grayer to lighter side of things due to the main character Mittens. I would classify the story as light gray in terms of story telling. There is violence and while Mittens and her father are assassins, they aren't killing people without purpose. The setting would be comparable to the 60s to 80s on Earth. There is technology like cars and electricity, but no internet.

If you are a fan of LitRPG and progressive novels, and like anthropomorphic characters, then Tom Cat and Murder Mittens is a pretty good Novel. The book is a tasty blend of action, adventure, and has some references to the author's other novel. Which is a decent bit darker. The lead is Murder Mittens and no she isn't one of those shitty female leads she's rly cool, Tom Cat is the father, he's cool too.
The book offers a unique perspective on traditional RPG games, and the use of anthropomorphic characters makes it even more jarring it might take a while to picture the animals in your head but just think zootopia. The writing style is engaging and descriptive.
Good read to binge and has an author with a really good work ethic alwayd updates and doesn't have the author curse that has him sick, injured or depressed when shit gets gud. Novel just started but I'm realy hoping to see more of this novel.

Overall, both the story itself and the writing style is good.
Though at first, it might seem like the usual 'become the strongest' theme of a lot of litrpgs, the story actually keeps things open at the start as to how the story could proceed.
It's based on a dystopian world made up of only animals wherein cats and other large animals are seen as the bad animals. I like how the author threaded in the litrpg element of the story without making it the main focus.
In conclusion, it's a wonderful story, an interesting one and a bit unique at that.

Read through the Early chapters, and then immediately went to Patreon because I caught up at the time (chap 16).  No regrets.  Characters are decent fun (mostly a certain mouse), and the protagonist has long term goals they have to work towards rather than just being villain of the week smack downs, and I've only seen 1 plot armor solution so far and it doesn't even seem like that much of an a** pull.  5 stars for now.  Let's see where it goes.

This story is definitely fun, and the author has a proven track record of keeping posting speed.
Style: unique dialog styles would be nice for different characters, but in all, it does not distract from the story. As it is, many of the characters, especially mouse thief and Tom have extemporaneous styles of speaking that distract me a bit. Maybe that is a good thing, though. Tom's speaking style definitely does not strike me as the archetype of "assassin."
Story: A warm and fuzzy anthropomorphic animals setting as the backdrop for a gripping story, filled with impactful experiences such as discrimination, insurrection, shadow wars, and realistic brilliance and short-sightedness from both friend and foe.
Grammar: Very good, and only occasionally distracts. Basically, the speed of posting is so high that perfect grammar can not be the priority. Good, but not perfect, and that's ok!
    My favorite part, I think:
Character: I really like how the characters seem like real people that are a product of their in-story environment instead of our own outside world. Oppression and speciesism that would be regarded as terrible in modern sensibilities are treated as the matter-of-fact things they are in the world of Mittens, and the coping strategies that are developed by the "bad" creatures are both commonplace and on full display.

A fun story with an interesting system mechanics. I like the family dynamics of Tom and Mittens. Mittens grows fast but not ridiculously so. MES is self serving but still looks out for the user's well-being. Nice to see a system that isn't out to get the average Joe even if it is a bit murder happy.

I liked the story, it was different then the tipical cultivator story, the new perspective give a fressness to the story. Mittens the mc is a cat (she walks on 2 leg, and use all kind of stuff) and becous of it the iypical tropes change, she have e few bilt in weapon (claws) and we can suspect a few weekness ( love of fish, sunbathing).
So if you serch something fressh, new start read thi.

I did not grow up with the Redwall series, however I had various experiences with other anthropomorphic animals in other media. This ranges from Robin Hood (disney animated) to The Secrets of Nimh and even American Tail. I am also a fan of anthropomorphic creatures in general, including artwork.
With that being said, I came into the book here with little to no knowledge.
Compared to The Systemic Lands, which is the long standing serial MisterVii first started with, this story is a massive difference from what one might expect from Vii.
The world building is slowly introduced in ways that feel natural and organic, not just to the characters but the reader. The system (MES) introduction is likewise natural and feels more fitting (to me) than most litrpg. It makes snse for why it is there, why it looks and acts the way it does. It was only a tiny taste of what we could expect, but I am really curious.
The world itself is has a 1960-1980s feel for technology, and is broken down into 'good' creatures and 'bad/evil' creatures. The good are more mice, voles, shrews and similar rodents. Bad include things like cats, snakes, and foxes (natural hunters of rodents). The main character, Mittens, is a Cat, and has to experience a lot of suffering and discrimination. It's not heavy handed which I appreciate it.
However, the world is quite dark and monstrous in ways that are the norm for the natives. Cultists are common, as is heresy, and that is bad times for all involved. It is much lighter in how the prose and characters understand/see/interact with the world than The Systemic Lands (whose catchphrase/tagline is "It can always get worse." This makes it a bit easier, or even relaxing read in between books of the Systemic Lands for me.
The characters so far are quite endearing, and the father/daughter dynamic is really healthy and wholesome. It reminds me of the relationship I had with my father, so I connected with Mittens and Tom Cat there.
There are a few awkward sentences or

Although early days thus far the story is compelling and the characters engaging.
It is unusual in the regard that it seems to be only animals. Reminds me of Redwall from my childhood although this is far more dystopian. Mittens adds some nice light to an otherwise fairly dark world.
Grammar and spelling are good and I definitely look forward to seeing where this story goes. As a diehard litrpg fan I am also very much looking forward to seeing how Mitten's system develops.

I really like this story up yo chapter 80 more or less, after that the story was pushed to a very forced and reader unsatisfying end.
It had a slow start as it picked up the pace it became really fun, it had quite a good setup for future enemies that we never got to read about, except a reader small mention on the epilogue which saddens me quite a bit.
Overall this is a worthwhile story to be read.

Story is really boring. The characters have no personality and the setting is dull, and nothing interesting happens in this poorly written story. The system is simple and lame. I can’t think of a thing positive about this. Cats are oppressed so some reason, even though they’re OP, and the MCs work for some crappy state church as an assassin for whatever reason. They’re like elite SS storm troopers, very hard to root for them. They’re allowed to have some moral lines, so long as they never fail to kill whatever target, so what’s the point?
