Description
A young man born with all four God-given powers would appear when Santollia needed him most, winning the war and giving them peace. The High Elders of the church thought the Warrior would be a holy man, but even the prophecy couldn’t prepare them for Indenuel.
Indenuel’s mother never told him of the prophecy, nor a lot of things about her past, leaving him to hide his four gifts. The more he smothered them, the more easily he turned toward the darker aspects of the powers.
When High Elder Martin discovers him, he’s taken to train in Santollia City as the daunting task of fulfilling the prophecy crashes on his shoulders. To make sure people keep their holy image of the fabled Warrior, Indenuel stifles the darker tendencies he’s always had with his powers. But as he learned before, he can’t pretend to be something he’s not, no matter what the prophecy says.

- thegoodman99Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall:
The Warrior feels like a grown-up version of The Avatar TLAB (which is a very good thing). The MC is the prophesied legendary Warrior gifted with the four powers to save his nation.
Religion plays a big part in this story, shaping the character's actions accordingly. The writer does a fantastic job displaying how much influence religion holds over the people, and I am super curious about how belief is throughout the rest of the world. Do they all have the same mindset as the small village we start in? How is it different in each town, city, state, or country? The reader can ponder all these questions because the writer has done a great job setting up the town's religious culture.
12/12 Goats. Would recommend this story to all. There is an epic story here. Come check it out.
Style:
I really enjoyed the writer's style. The story is told in 3rd person, allowing us to get perspective from the MC and Martin so far. The writing is consistent with the narrative and tenses. What really stands out is the writer's meaningful description that had me say things like "I like that description" and "Oh, I really like that description." On top of that, the writer does an incredible job bringing out emotions of the characters. As I read his story, I could feel the MC's sadness and frustration. Great Job!
Grammer:
Grammer is good. No issues that I noticed or any that pulled me away from the story.
Story:
I am hooked. I want to know what happens to the MC, his family, and his town. I want to learn more about the four powers. I am excited to learn about the religion. Is it artificial, or is it real, or a bit of both? How will the MC grow over time? Will he have some friends? I need him to have some good friends.
Character:
Indenuel is a good lad. I like him. I want him to win (whatever winning for him turns out to be). He is believable and has tons of growth potential.
Martin seems like a pretty nice guy. My only complaint is that he is not sticking up for his 'chosen one' nea - OrlonDogmannRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am hooked. God I hate saying this so often but, I have come to find such interesting stories in my trips through RR, and this is definitively a new one in my list of favorites.
Style: Sometimes I feel like the prose flows unevenly? It feels like you have issues going through, and in others it feels like you breeze as if you had it all perfectly planned from the very beginning! It is never really a problem to me though, but I thought like I had to point it out.
Story: Dealing with Grief and new expectations are two of the biggest obstacles you may find in your life, and this story has beautifuly touched both subjects so far with all the grace you may expect. I love the way magic functions here, the way God and Devil are such intense presence in the mind of people and how quick they are to abscribe magic to one or the other, it's all just. *Chef's kiss.*
Grammar: I never noticed anything that put me out of the reading, and I am happy about it. <3
Character: Indenuel is a great lead with some clear emotion, motives and prejudices that he needs to slowly work through, but he is not alone here! From the bitter Andres to the fearful Matteo, every character feels so alive and full of their own independant view of the world.
In one of your notes you said that you were proud of this story, and it shows. I can feel the love and care in every new chapter, to the point that after I finish writing this, I am definitively going through the rest of the it all for more. I need to know what happens next! Absolutely recommended. - Ravenbridge StudiosRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've only read the first five chapters, so I'm eschewing an advanced review for the time being - but there is no question that I will continue reading.
We all have an ample selection of deconstructionist fantasy to choose from, but sometimes, it's good to go back to the classics. And this is very much written like a classic. The hero embodying the four powers, whose coming was foretold, is embarking on a journey that feels at once familiar and different. I find that very comforting, and very interesting.
It helps that the story is well-executed, polished, smooth to read, and goes straight to the point rather than string along the main character and the reader about the question of what is going on.
So, if you'd like a well-written Chosen One story that doesn't beat around the bush and is perfectly cognisant of what it needs to do to engage the reader, this is it.
Five stars it is! - S.N. KeirsteadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Grammar: Grammar is flawless. It is clear that the author made sure to properly edit the chapters before uploading. Not a single typo or grammatical was found during what I read of the story.
Style: The third person POV is very well-written. Everything is easy to follow and the descriptions are compact yet effective. The narration is more straightforward than usual fantasy stories, getting right to the point. Most of the characters' personalities and backstories are explained through their dialogue as opposed to being mentioned by the narrator. It helps to give the story an organic feel to both the plot and character development.
Character: One of the strongest points of The Warrior. There is a lot of emotion packed into the dialogue and actions of the characters. From the very first chapter, the reader can really relate to Indenuel and his struggles. As mentioned before, the dialogue between characters is natural and organic, making them really feel like actual characters.
Story: The story utilizes a typical "prophecy" trope. It's executed well, making a familiar plot point still feel interesting to read. The combination of the characters and world give it enough flavor for it to stand on its own. - TurtleKingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I was surprised as I read this. The writing quality is superb, the writing style consistenet, the characters alive, and the world building entrancing. When I get some more time I'll be back to read the rest of the story.
For the Style, The novel was written in a third person past tense perspectice that focused heavily on dailogue. This really helped the characters come to life and gave me a great sense of their personalities. From the very beginning, the author provided tension throughout their story telling to keep the reader engaged with the story.
For the story, I can tell the author took a lot of care and thought into what the plot was going to be. There is an overacrching story that runs smoothly throughout the chapters. There are no weird cuts and time skips, changes in story arcs. This story feels very planned out. The setting is your typical fantasy novel.
Grammar - I found no issues. Typically I'm not great at proofreading so take that with a grain of salt.
Character score, all the chracters are unique. Again, the use of dialogue really helps the reader learn about the characters persnoalities. They are all interesting and unique where they all feel like separate individuals - VyStarlitRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is really great. I especially am fond of the worldbuilding. The way the author opens the world throughout the story is fantastic. There was never any info dumps just revealing as things happened which I thought was smoothly done. I'm really enjoying the story.
Style: I really like the style of the story. It has a smooth and heavy candence that feels like you're peeling back things layer by layer. This does mean it has a more slow pace to it but I found myself enjoying it. It fit the story perfectly and I never got bored.
Story: It is fascinating. So far we are introduced to mostly minor conflicts except for the big storm in the beginning and the war which we hear about. Still it feels like we're building towards something and I'm looking forward to seeing it.
Grammar: I didn't notice anything obvious and the read was easy.
Character: The characters are nicely flawed and feel like real people with all their shortcomings. I feel like the MC is a bit too timid at points but you can see the budding anger come out every once in a while. So I'm looking forward to seeing his confidence grow. It's great to see the development of a character.
The story has very strong religious tones due to the characters living in a society where religion is very important. While some people might not like it, I found myself enjoy the ramifications. It definitely made me curious how it will play out in the rest of the story. - Banner CaygeonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've just finished all the posted chapters and felt the need to get my review down right away. For anyone reading this, I'm heavily biased towards strong character development :)
Grammar: We can get this out of the way, there aren't any mistakes, or at least none that I noticed. I'm not a Captain in the grammar police, but I didn't once get taken aback. 5 stars here. The author also uses a very direct and literal prose so it's more likely to be error free. more on that below.
Style: I also tend to write in this style, but I really appreciate simple prose. There's no fluff, no indulgent descriptions of mundane things. There's little in terms of heady simile or metaphor. And all of that simplicity allows her characters to shine through. It's a slow burn, but there's enough interest in the characters that the piece keeps you very interested.
Character: Through the clean and literal prose we get to see some very great character development, including a very well done enemy character. Though there's been little conflict through the chapters posted, this Andres character already has 3 pretty big strikes against him and is setting up to be a real baddie. I won't spoil anything, but it's like the old rule of thumb: judge somebody by how they treat the server at a restaurant and you'll have all you need to know.
Story score: It's a bit early to tell, but it seems like a classic chosen one situation. Poor, unfamiliar village guy is the hero prophesized. I hope the the author takes the character for a turns in future chapters, but even still, there's much more depth to this chosen one than in many others. Often the reluctant hero is has some non-sense confidence issues that always make me roll my eyes, but in this case, he has a real and deep cause for his reluctance which is refreshing.
All in all this is carefully crafted, character focused fantasy and I loved it! - BewareTheChainRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I often find myself having a tough time reading fantasy novels of this calibre, but I'll admit to liking this one so far.
Within the first chapter, the setting is established as bleak and hopeless, which naturally gives way to that little sense of hope one gets upon learning they have the power to change things.
The magic aspect is also nice and simple as far as I can tell. Four abilities, tree speaking, speaking with the dead, weather control and healing. The protagonist has all four, which is unheard of, and sets him up to be an important figure later on.
Overall I enjoyed reading this story, and I plan to continue to do so when I next have some free time. - FreeidRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Favourite part about the novel is the caracterization, author knows how to evoke emotion within characters and bring them to life really well. It lets us know about their personality, motivations and goals. Characters are usually difficult to get right but these are done well. The story follows the MC that has avatar like abilites, yes, like the airbender but has its own flavour and uniqueness. World building is done very naturally and is setting the stage for what is to come in the future. Now to the scores.
Stlye 4.5/5: There's some moments that don't flow quite and could be worded a little bit better but it's very minor to me personally and doesn't distract me from my reading experience.
Story 5/5: The world and plot is setting up nicely, author has taken their time to build up a rivetting tale and I'm looking forward to where it progresses in the future.
Grammar 5/5: Nothing seemed out of place to me, not sure I even spotted an error when it came to grammar.
Character 5/5: as others have said this is where the story shines in my opinion, dialogue is done really well and author does a good job in envoking emotion and a realness to the characters.
Goob job Ellen, I look forward to more of this. - HWPerfidyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story: The worldbuilding of this book is really good, almost something I’d expect to read from a published book. The world that the story takes place in feels like a real place, and details are explained naturally throughout the narrative. Indenuel’s journey is described in a compelling way that makes the reader feel for him every step of the way. It might be a bit slow for some readers, but for me, it felt just right.
Style: The style is a bit simplistic, but flows well. The amount of descriptions and dialogue are just right, making for a comfortable read.
Character: The strongest character in the whole story is Indenuel, as expected from reading from his perspective. You can almost feel the emotion that Indenuel experiences alongside him. All his grief towards his mother, his dislike towards his village, all feels real and emotional.
Other characters however, feel as if their actions don’t make a whole lot of sense. Like how Martin seems to be a wise, experienced type of guy, but seems to jump to the conclusion that he’s the warrior based on Indenuel’s words alone.
Grammar: A few mistakes but nothing that breaks up the flow of the story
Overall: A great read! I really how well it flowed. It definitely was a great journey so far.
