The story, as of far, feels complex in ways that feel complex for the sake of being complex. The 'Monarch System', as I've coined it, feels very detached from not only the setting of the story, but also the feel of the monarchs, themselves. The Monarch System isn't exactly bad, but it feels rough and undefined, and also feels very arbitrary, like a plot device that only functions when the plot needs it to. There's also the fact that the Monarch System is rather, 'futuristic', or at least it's described as so, in the story, making it feel very separate from the story's plot and setting.
Moving on to the characters, they all feel like one dimensional, cardboard cutouts, as of so far, though that may change with the release of more chapters. Then, there's the main character, Thanren, who is unnecessarily jerky, for being the main character. I understand the intent is that; for him to be rude, but it feels a bit overdone, and he seems to be very dramatic, for no other reason than to make the story feel a bit more exciting.
There's also the mood, which, in my opinion, is probably one of the least understandable parts of this story. It feels unnecessarily moody and edgy, even if it is told from the perspective of someone who has those as main traits. Once again, it would probably be better if there were more lighthearted moments, that do not include interpersonal scenes and fight scenes, as that as what the story is mostly composed of, as of right now. Not to get into spoilers, but a lot of scenes in this story seem to only exist as shock factor, like the scene wher
