- HollexRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story captivated me from the very first moment. If you decide to read this great work, you'll delve into one of the most beautiful works with an evil protagonist you can find in RR.
Here, the protagonist is evil, and don't be afraid of the "anti-hero" label. Seraphina is not like other villain protagonists, being pure evil. Instead, we can see that Seraphina is human with emotions, feelings, and also a great ambition that is not hindered by morality.
Here we follow the story of Seraphina, not a benevolent ruler, but a power-hungry tyrant, and I LOVE IT! - M.D. GrahamRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It is certainly a good fresh twist on the isekai trope. Written very well, too. Villain protags are rarely done well, but this one certainly is. It is also great to see a LitRPG with good prose/vocabulary, (which is unfortunately not always the genre's strongest suit).
It gripped me from the first chapter and did not let go, and I am sure it would do the same for you, especially if isekai and villain protagonists are your thing. - Anything RandomRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just a very well-written isekai story about a genuinely evil person making their way through a classic OI villainess scenario.
The writing is genuinely standout. Feels very much like reading a “real novel” with few exceptions. The author doesn’t feel the need to spoon-feed the readers with exposition, though that also means at least once when I was reading I had to go back to a previous chapter because I hadn’t picked up on something. It’s mostly my fault for kind of skim reading the early chapters.
The LitRPG elements are pretty light. Honestly I would prefer a more fleshed out system, but I know that a lot of people prefer this style, and it works well with the story.
my biggest complaint so far is that the prologue was too long and I’m still on the fence about the alt POV we’ve gotten. It felt too long and unnecessary at the time, but we’re still early on in the story so I may come around on it, depending on how that part of the story goes. - DracoNonDeoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.01 (0.5 stars) — Horrible or I don't like reading this genre and won't admit it.
2 (1 star) — Very Bad.
4 (2 stars) — Poor.
6 (3 stars) — Average.
8 (4 stars) — Good. Nothing wrong with it.
10 (5 stars) — Excellent.
12 (5 stars) — Perfect Masterpiece. Nigh impossible.
Overall Summary (9.875/12 – “Excellent-ish”): This score is slightly higher than the sum of the parts because I appreciate the author’s effort to actively interact with comments, as well as the inclusion of art—which adds a lot to the reading experience. The following sections break down my thoughts in more detail.
Style (7.5/12 – “Good-ish”): Overall, the style falls somewhere between decent and quite good. My biggest gripe is that certain sections feel unnecessarily drawn out, such as:
when she is making her way to the capital to introduce herself to the king
where several chapters in a stretch don’t add much to the overall plot. This isn’t a major flaw—more of a minor annoyance. I have one other small criticism of the style, but its address under character.
Story (9/12 – Very Good): This book absolutely earns its title—The Villainess is the Villainess. The main character is genuinely rotten, to the point that she actively tries to counteract any accidental good deed with several times the evil. If:
murder of innocents, lightly drugging an entire kingdom, and child exploitation
are deal-breakers for you, this is not your book. That said, she doesn’t commit these acts for shock value—they serve her goals.
The story itself is engaging, but I’m holding off on a final verdict until the series is complete. It feels like there’s still much more to come.
Grammar (9/12 – Very Good): Little to no noticeable grammar issues. Editing suggestions were turned on. The vocabulary is functional and clean, though not particularly vivid or unique.
Character (8/12 – Good): The characters are solid and relatively interesting, with nothing inherently wrong about their portrayal. However, I find it hard to feel invested in - AnCosmRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A story where the bad girl truly acts like a bad girl! Who would have thought?Besides the sheer novelty of the character being what it says on the tin, Seraphina also acts like an impulsive willful hormonal teenage girl.Your never quite sure what she might do next and that makes it all the more fun and unpredictable.I caught up to the present in one sitting and highly recommend you do the same.
- Ethan Y CottonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well, this is a new one for me. Normally I am hooked early and eventually I drop a story because characters rub me the wrong way.
Well I have to say that I was not convinced in the first chapter. I will break down what I mean in a moment but I have to say now that my mind was quickly changed. This story definitely deserves a chapter to wind up and then you too will be hooked.
now the breakdown:
Characters: I am starting here because this is the only smudge I can put on this story. The main character was over the top evil and unlikeable in the first chapter. I almost want to go back and make sure I didn’t miss where she may have clubbed a baby seal or something. I only point this out because as soon as the world swap happens the characters are all fantastic. Especially the main character. The planning scheming and forethought are fantastically done. The side characters also have depths and quirks despite being outwardly shallow. There is a delicate balance when writing a character who is supposed to seem shallow like these but then upon closer inspection actually have interesting motivations.
really I wish the first chapter was different, not because of how it looked or the impression it gives of the main character, but because I know the first chapter is an extremely important moment in the story. I mourn for the people who don’t give this a chance because of the impression of the opening. The second chapter and beyond is leagues better and more enjoyable than the first.
now on to the other stuff
style: being the villain of your own story is a great idea, but beyond just a great idea it is executed flawlessly. Villains are tough to write by their very nature but here we have insidious schemes, plots, and even justifications that almost have me convinced!
a difficult style executed very well. I applaud
story: our villainess main character is trying to preempt the good guy and gather power and supporters however she can. Politics and intrigue abound. Casual emotional - GD_CruzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0spoiler free review...
Let's get real, Serafina is no helpless damsel, sacrificial virgin, or heroic princess discovering her passions--she's the one making damsels helpless, sacrificing virgins, and trampling heroic princesses who get in her way, but only when necessary and always with style!
In short, this story ain't a Disney adventure...it's the other kind, and that's what we could love about it. I certainly did, and I'm not usually prone to reading villainous stories. So, if you can take anything from this review, that's the one you take to the bank.
Let's talk about style first. Personally, there are a few things I'd do differently--being an Author myself--but I have to admit that the prose in this book is gorgeous. It'll easily transport you into a new fantasy realm, and have you believing it could actually be real (despite being a game world). The pacing moves fluidly, sometimes quick to get the enging going, and slowing down at just the right moments so the story can breathe in those whirling emotions they instill.
Grammar is well-done; the dialogue between characters feels natural, with few expositions, and nothing that strands out that could draw you out of the immersion. I did say the prose was gorgeous, didn't I?
For an MC, Serafina is strong, intelligent, and driven to the point that you might feel sorry for the supporting cast who don't immediately jump the hoops she maneuvers in front of them. She knows what she wants and she knows how to get it, especially since she's got an inside-track to the world's foundations. The supporting cast is good too. Some of them will make you smile, others will make you want to punch something, and they all being something to the table that help male the story feel alive--and that's what it's all about...the characters.
So, yeah, go put on your best gowns and petticoats, and sharpen your wits as well as your blades because the Lady of the dukedom won't be suffering any fools -- and enjoy the read while you're at it! - Goten32Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The protagonist Seraphina is delusional. With a myriad of villain stories either being reluctant/edgy heroes in all but name and evil for the pure sake of it, Seraphina stands out as rather, relatable? Plausible? Understandable, maybe. You see Seraphina is a terrible and evil person, murderer, abusive, callous, manipulative, petty and violent. But it's written in such a way you can see how she reached these fucked up conclusions, and she still has identity and personality outside of being a douche. Not to say she's redeemable or anything. She can mindfuck herself into 15 hour workdays for orphans if it furthers her plans. Like I said, delusional. Delusional, and disastrously human but a very well written character.
Everything else is excellent, too, just secondary to the main character to determine if you'll like the story. - HisotherRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is just an amazing read for an amazing write. Wondrous story. Had a different take on magic. It satisfy and resonate a feeling deep within, because who wouldn't like to act like a baddy? This story is just wonderful hopes many would check and try this out.
Will comeback to write a better review. - MDWRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is not a review swap. I traded shouts with tobascoasako but all my reviews are spontaneous.

The "I became the Villainess of my favorite game" is a battered trope. Yeah. But so is Isekai in general, and there's no shortage of stories there. With this out of the way, let's judge the execution.
And tobascoasako NAILS IT. Straight 10. The villainess is a villainess through and through. She is delectably evil, scheming, smart, and relatable.
The MC is not your average timid otome player who wants to evade the bad end. Seraphina (the MC) is going to ingore the bad end, the good end, and carve her own story out of the guts of the game script she butchered.
Reading this story is a wonderful journey to the dark side, the kind that tickles all my evil pickles.
Style: Enough said. The tale is captivating, and presentation is on a gilded china platter.
Story: Yes. More, please.
Grammar: It's elaborate without being overly wordy or pompous. The text flows with ease on the eyes.
Character: Seraphina deserved a sixth star. The support cast is well-wrought and developed.
