Description

(On indefinite hiatus)

A man suffering from a magically induced amnesia attempts to understand the workings of a foreign yet not so different world. His alien nature proves to be a barrier in more than the figurative sense, however, as he finds himself unable to partake or even perceive the most crucial aspects of the natives' interactions. This imperviousness makes him a useful tool in the eyes of many, securing him a chance at survival for the meager cost of his self-determination. These are his struggles as he slowly grows out of his meekness and tries to take back control of his life.

I will update this review to an advanced review once I have read more of this story, but right now I can say this story is really well written. The first person perspective is well written, and the world is as confusing to the MC as to the reader. I really enjoyed the pace the author is taking the story at, the descriptions, and the characters so far.  I look forward to reading more, and I will definitely be adding this to my recommended list.

I have read three chapters now, and all I know of the world is that swords are a common weapon and magic is a thing that exists. All I know of the protagonist is that he is male and I also know that the author is not a native speaker.
There is great effort put into the chapters. It is a bit unfortunate that all that effort doesn't lead to a lot of characterization. A scenic view. Something interesting to read.
Sentences such as: “As expected from the outskirts of a city, the architecture here was fairly sparse, but its density and height sharply grew as I got deeper in.” are complex yet unrewarding to read, because they don't tell us anything we don't already know.
The author's intention is visible- a mysterious opening to a larger story. Instead of omitting relevant details only though, the text doesn't give any material at all instead.
I can't get invested in a character without personality or a world lacking description.
I want to reiterate how the ratio of complexity to content is a real issue. The protagonist legitimately has no traits other than being male and doesn't display a personality either. The world is one of swords and magic, but the first description of anything at all is of an irrelevant statue in the second chapter--the next of the goons in the third.
The protagonist has amnesia and doesn't reflect on what kind of knowledge he retains, which would be another avenue to lend some depth to the situation. World-building in fragments or a display of emotions – absent, by the way – at not remembering.
Humour would be something filling, maybe.
