On New Year's Eve, Lee Ho-Jae decides that he wants to die. The universe seems to hear him for the first time in his entire life, and just as the clock hits 00:00, a message pops up inviting him to the Tutorial. Lee Ho-Jae accepts. But at the prompt to choose the difficulty level, is there anything the former pro gamer can do but pick the very hardest--appropriately titledHell?
And so begins Ho-Jae's true descent into Hell in every conceivable form, thrusting him into a world where pain is the currency needed to gain power, and the only ally he has is his own flesh and blood. It doesn't take much for the human mind to crack and crumble, but to build it up again is even harder. In the spiral of white madness that Ho-Jae finds himself tumbling into, will a hand reach towards him and pull him out, or will he just drag them down with them?
[This version of the story has now been concluded; the story continues in "A Gamer's Guide to Beating the Tutorial" from the same chapter as it ended from]
This story is loosely based on the concept and story by Gandara, but is apart from the setting and name of the main character different on almost every conceivable level. You do not need to read the original story to read this, and doing so will change very little of your experience with the story. It is almost recommended not to read the original if you enjoyed this one since the original has a vastly more lighthearted tone in comparison.
Thank you, and I hope you'll enjoy the story!

- KezdetRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly I don't like the main character. He's the type of person who generally speaking talks shit with nothing to back it up, believes everything and everyone is against them and has no clue why all of life's failures are their own fault.
Knowing this amd how much I dislike every interaction of the main character, it is nice seeing how the story progresses amd he matures albeit slower than a time stopped turtle, but still incrementally.
I've been enjoying the mechanics of the game and how the character is also slowly devolving into a monster physically gaining the characteristics needed to survive in any environment while also having morality beat into his stupid thick skull. I forsee by the end he'll reluctantly have gained insight into morality and empathy, however he'll be changed beyond reckoning physically.
I like the little nods to true he'll as well, such as the jaguar wolf and lion from Dantes inferno, or cerebrum. I have an inkling that the gods that look upon him favorably have a spark of the 7 sins. Such as goddess of want = envy, or God of cowardice = sloth(or maybe pride since pride would get a laugh out of makeing a cowards action viable). Still not enough gods in favor yet to tell for certain though.
So 5 stars, I'd say 4 since I dislike the Mc, however I understand he's a character designed to be hated and since he is that makes him designed well so 5 - Google_But_StupidRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly, I can only recommend that peoople give the first few chapters a try. that I think my perception of White has soured.
Be prepared for a far-from-sane mc, with a dash of unlikeable on top. But that only adds to the experience. I've read a story or two from Palt, cough cough, Palt go finish the Star Wars one, that one was cool, cough cough, and they truly do manage to convey character more than almost any author I've read on RR. So go check out their previous fictions as well.
Now go, shoo. Go start reading already. - Blue-eyed SerpentRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I was feeling a bit down reading this brought me an immense amount of joy. Thank you for the awesome story!!!

Main character wasn't a very good guy before he joined the tutorial, and lets just say, he gets so much worse. The story shares some plot elements with Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint and similar stories, with gods that indirectly affect the events by "rewarding" points and skills at the end of a stage, floor, etc. Spoiler for talking about more of the story in a general sense, still sorta spoilery.
Main character is alive because of dumb luck. His reasons for picking his starter weapon didn't matter, his plans didn't matter, the first floor is a death sentence. The only reason he is still kicking is because he is well on his way to maxxing his passive skills before the first floor is over, and continues this on the later floors. I also get that the main view point of the story is our delusional, maladjusted, completely insane main character, but I would have enjoyed a bit more backstory/build-up for the Representatives and the Executives, but I also get that the story is trying to show that the main character has nothing to do with everyone else. Its good, but also is a double-edged sword, because some people want an MC that plays a role in almost all the stories/arcs happening in the story.
Style and Grammar is a 5 because the style is great, because it disregards Grammar to make it work. I honestly would've left grammar blank if it didn't tank the grammar score, since it doesn't really apply. When the story is at a point where regular grammar can exist, its good. But this story is told from a 1st person view, so the story is being told from the main character's perspective, not from an outside view. Sentences are not the reader seeing what is happening, it is the MC telling you what is happening. Its confusing to describe, and I know I'm not describing this well, but you know, its whatever. Either you understand this ramble, or you'll read this story and get what I'm trying to describe.
Character is a 4 for now, because, while - Engel123Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0General: It's just a great story over all if not a little weirdly sadisticly fun. This story is in a category of its own, it fits into nothing I could find here, which is a huge breath of fresh air.
Style/Story: Sadisticly fun, gory, brutal not for the faint of heart, and sticks lightly true to the original story.
Grammar: No mistakes or anything too wordy, good enough for a 5 star for me.
Character: I think people get this wrong, you don't rate it on how much you like the character but how well it's written, and I've gotta say, this has to be one of the best characters I've ever seen, all of the story's here feel like it's a real person, but this... this is different, we see how someone gets mentally broken, unbroken slightly, and broken again all while seeing how they respond to people and the white rooms.
Note: I finally put in the effort to make a review ever since I joined from you making the story at chapter 3, also please don't dock my pay.

He starts as this overall pretty shitty person and you would think at first that this might be like the second coming of gluttony where we see the mc slowly redeem himself, but no he quickly goes off the deep end and we get to witness him get worse and worse. In the end it just leaves you waiting to see what crazy thing he is gonna do next and I cannot wait to see more.
- BoredCrowRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So this story is a mess.
I understood close to nothing but the pain that the protagonist suffered.
But that just made this amazing.
A crackfic on another level.
I find it really hard to enjoy most books these days because of how boring they are but this was a breath of fresh air.
Just a mish mash of insanity and torture. - GGOAPRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Uuuuuuh, I don't really know what to say about this story besides that it was good and way darker than I expected.
The protag's slow descent into even more madness is entrancing to watch in a mildly horrific way, the protag is bad and just keeps getting worse at every opportunity makes this story a wild ride due to me not having any clue on what is actualy happening. - DerekTheKingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I can't get enough of the psychopathic mc, the secrets of the tutorial, and the madness that is going to ensue when he ends up meeting the other tutorial members.
I feel so bad for the goblins the mc is game ending, especially for Simel who tries to find humanity in him, so much so that I want to look away, but I just can't. I can't tear my eyes away from the story because it is so enthralling.
Please never stop writing, this story is like crack to me and I'm signing up to the patreon to get more of it. - Lil_crafterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Palt has continuously made *Chef's Kiss* level stories, and this reimagining is no exception.
This story dives into the insanity of an almost impossible challenge with the reader there along for the ride. As the MC progresses we see his continuous downfall into hysteria and insanity as he faces a sheer wall in the form of the 'HELL' tutorial.
When compared to the original story this is based off of, Palt's creation is leagues above in tension, emotion, and a dive into the character's mentality.
Overall, Palt is continuing to bring us a story that reels in the reader to it's insane depths while maintaining a consistence yet intriguing style.
