On New Year's Eve, Lee Ho-Jae decides that he wants to die. The universe seems to hear him for the first time in his entire life, and just as the clock hits 00:00, a message pops up inviting him to the Tutorial. Lee Ho-Jae accepts. But at the prompt to choose the difficulty level, is there anything the former pro gamer can do but pick the very hardest--appropriately titledHell?
And so begins Ho-Jae's true descent into Hell in every conceivable form, thrusting him into a world where pain is the currency needed to gain power, and the only ally he has is his own flesh and blood. It doesn't take much for the human mind to crack and crumble, but to build it up again is even harder. In the spiral of white madness that Ho-Jae finds himself tumbling into, will a hand reach towards him and pull him out, or will he just drag them down with them?
[This version of the story has now been concluded; the story continues in "A Gamer's Guide to Beating the Tutorial" from the same chapter as it ended from]
This story is loosely based on the concept and story by Gandara, but is apart from the setting and name of the main character different on almost every conceivable level. You do not need to read the original story to read this, and doing so will change very little of your experience with the story. It is almost recommended not to read the original if you enjoyed this one since the original has a vastly more lighthearted tone in comparison.
Thank you, and I hope you'll enjoy the story!

- wheat breadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is good and slowly going insane and I'm here for it. It's like watching a train crash with the Mc as the conductor going full speed off a bridge especially with his interactions with others. The insane parts are a bit hard to read and understand but I get that's the point of it. MCs is great and cringe in equal portions balanced out between his social skills and insanity. Characters I feel are well done even if we don't see much of them. It's great and as someone who read 500 chapters of the torturial is to hard this is in my opinion way better. Props to another banger and as someone who fucking loved returning to no applause only more of the same(go read it) hope it keeps up.
- BoredCrowRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So this story is a mess.
I understood close to nothing but the pain that the protagonist suffered.
But that just made this amazing.
A crackfic on another level.
I find it really hard to enjoy most books these days because of how boring they are but this was a breath of fresh air.
Just a mish mash of insanity and torture. - ColdHeartRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Basically this mc is a combination of pyro from TF2(heavily delusional), shut-in forum dwelling gamer and a drugged-out hobo. He starts as this overall pretty shitty person and you would think at first that this might be like the second coming of gluttony where we see the mc slowly redeem himself, but no he quickly goes off the deep end and we get to witness him get worse and worse. In the end it just leaves you waiting to see what crazy thing he is gonna do next and I cannot wait to see more.
- DerekTheKingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I can't get enough of the psychopathic mc, the secrets of the tutorial, and the madness that is going to ensue when he ends up meeting the other tutorial members.
I feel so bad for the goblins the mc is game ending, especially for Simel who tries to find humanity in him, so much so that I want to look away, but I just can't. I can't tear my eyes away from the story because it is so enthralling.
Please never stop writing, this story is like crack to me and I'm signing up to the patreon to get more of it. - Blue-eyed SerpentRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I was feeling a bit down reading this brought me an immense amount of joy. Thank you for the awesome story!!!

The protag's slow descent into even more madness is entrancing to watch in a mildly horrific way, the protag is bad and just keeps getting worse at every opportunity makes this story a wild ride due to me not having any clue on what is actualy happening. - Google_But_StupidRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly, I can only recommend that peoople give the first few chapters a try. If you don't like them, you won't like the rest of it. If you stick around, you will become addicted. No joke, the writing quality managed to paint such a vivid picture in my head,
that I think my perception of White has soured.
Be prepared for a far-from-sane mc, with a dash of unlikeable on top. But that only adds to the experience. I've read a story or two from Palt, cough cough, Palt go finish the Star Wars one, that one was cool, cough cough, and they truly do manage to convey character more than almost any author I've read on RR. So go check out their previous fictions as well.
Now go, shoo. Go start reading already. - Lil_crafterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Palt has continuously made *Chef's Kiss* level stories, and this reimagining is no exception.
This story dives into the insanity of an almost impossible challenge with the reader there along for the ride. As the MC progresses we see his continuous downfall into hysteria and insanity as he faces a sheer wall in the form of the 'HELL' tutorial.
When compared to the original story this is based off of, Palt's creation is leagues above in tension, emotion, and a dive into the character's mentality.
Overall, Palt is continuing to bring us a story that reels in the reader to it's insane depths while maintaining a consistence yet intriguing style.

In one word: PHENOMENAL.
There is so much to enjoy about this story. The world-building is fantastic, both on every floor and in the general world, the way it is written is so beautiful and poetic that sometimes I have to just stop and appreciate how brilliant it is, the story is so interesting and captivating, and the main character is just... fantastic. The side characters are great too (teared up at some of their stories/plots), and they are such a great, realistic addition to the already captivating main character.
Frankly, the mc deserves his own entire thing. I don't want to say too much but... At the start, we meet him as some Pro Gamer ™, and we see it in his Gamer POV (hilarious to me), and with time, he descends more and more into madness. He's already a jerk at the start, but he just... gets worse. and worse. I don't see a happy ending for him in sight. And I love it. I personally really enjoy angst and hurt/no comfort, and this is just perfect. It has that spark of joy every so often and just immediately extinguishes it in brutal ways. You just know that you shouldn't get attached to any of the characters, but they're written so well, so lovable, and so realistic, that you just can't help it. And then it hurts.
A good example of this is Simel. The floor itself is amazing, both on its own and with the next (and future) ones. The world-building is captivating and believable, and genuinely horrifying when you see what the MC does without even blinking. It also shows great messages: treat someone as a person, and they'll act like one. And also the opposite: treat someone as a monster, and watch them become one. And this story did such a great job with it. The MC BUTCHERS tons of children without batting an eye, and is then captured. He is seen as a demon by the fellow goblins (understandable) and therefore treated awfully. Yet Simel treated him kindly after s - Mix33Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Full murder hobo and spell check needs an upgrade but still a gold reimagining of an already decent story, protagonist isn't all that similar to the og but close enough, "feint" is the word not "faint" . Protag is kinda a dirtbag who goes beyond anti hero but he sure is entertaining while doing it
