Description

With debt slavery looming all but inevitable after a catastrophic expedition, Toren learns of an opportunity to join a crown-sponsored colonization of new lands. Lured by the possibility to earn forgiveness for his debts, he gambles away his levels and Profession for a chance to meet the recruitment requirement: a gold-rarity trait. Returned to level 1, can he survive in untamed lands long enough to earn the needed contribution credits? —June 2023 Community Magazine Contest— Writing prompt: “Mirrors can't eat people.” ***Note: This story does have traumatic situations and depictions of violence. I've tried to be vague within the descriptions, but the content is still not age approriate for young children and probably closer to PG13. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

I just stumbled across this today and already read everything through- I can't wait to read what is next! I enjoy the world, the mechanics, and how everything is being set up! There is a good cast of characters developing.  I'm glad to see the development of several relationships, building an interesting foundationtion to a strong story.  I tend to read characters with strong females characters- there are not any yet,  but there is some good potential.

The characters are relatable and fun.
The progression system is fun and interesting while being easily understood.
The Mc comes across as a mature good person rather than an evil d*ck or naive saint wannabe.
The Mc is walking a path that makes him a main damage dealer(something every Mc should be but far to few are). The Mc is brave and doesn't constantly try to hide his power like a moronic coward(hiding a trump card is intelligent unlike base power)
The Mc is self sufficient but still chooses to work with others both to his and their benefits.
It seems like the Mc is going to have a side profession which is always fun and can add more depth to the character and the story.
The Mc has a powerful trait but it doesn't break the system or make him op thankfully.  Instead it gives him a minor edge that he capitalizes on through hard work and dedication.
While there is a bit of conspiracy/politics it is only to a very minor degree so it enhances the story rather than destroys it.
All in all a fun and enjoyable read with a lot of potential for growth and I can't wait for more chapters

This story reminds me of the opening of an Elder Scrolls game. In a good way.
The MC arrives in a new land, with no grand destiny and no dark lord looming. Yet, at least. Instead, it has the sense of an open world to be explored, of adventures awaiting and room for growth.
The background of the MC is cleverly crafted, despite using the trope of an orphan. It establish him as hard-working and somewhat ambitious. He's no anti-social jerk, nor a doormat. And in spite of his setbacks, he's still self-motivated enough to drive the story forward, instead of just being a passive passenger. I was especially impressed by the way the MC fought and schemed to be included in the expedition to the new land, instead of just being press-ganged. It gave him agency, even in a situation where he had limited choices.
The debt, the competition with his fellow pioneers and the dangerous wildlife provides further sources of conflic, as well as avenues to get stronger.
It's early chapters yet, but I think the story has great potential.

The writing seems fine, and the story seems interesting. The author does well at making interesting-seeming peripheral characters in only a few lines; they don't all seem like placeholders or stereotypes. That's a great skill, and worth a look to study that alone.
The dialog seems good; not omg wow but better than most. Pacing seems fine for a web serial. World building...well, it's hard to say this early on, but it hints at a lot.
This seems pretty decent, but it really just barely got started and no regular updates. I'll mark to check up on eventually, but the track record for stories that go >30d w/o updates is pretty grim.

The idea of the story is interesting, and i would like to see where it goes. But it has some major issues as far as i am concerned. Lack of any schedule release of chapters, which ties in with the pacing of the story. There have been 15 ch as of writing this, bur nothing has really happened.  The chapters are too short, so it takes a few to just tell us everything about one simple event. I mean all that has really happened is that they told us why he was desperate, changing his class, signing up to go to the new world, getting orientation in the new world, trying to get housing. All that took 15 chs, which is just to slow. So unless the pacing changes or there becomes a actual release schedule i wouln't recommend reading this
