Description
A soldier's discipline. A brotherhood's loyalty. The impossible is about to happen. In Keinji Moura’s old world, they used to say it was easier for a snake to smoke a pipe than for the improbable to become reality. He lived by that defiance, forged in the ashes of Tokyo and the rigors of the Brazilian Army, until fate betrayed him under the dim lights of a square in São Paulo. A robbery, a gunshot, and the end of his march on Earth. But death was merely a new mission. Awakening as the fourth son of a Marquis in a realm of high magic, Keinji expected the cold treachery of nobility. Instead, he found something sacred: a family bound by unbreakable loyalty. Four brothers who do not fight for crowns, but for each other. With no magical inheritance and armed only with his tactical mind and a standard-issue blade, Keinji will forge a path of valor. In a world of arrogant aristocrats who underestimate the value of steel and discipline, he will prove that a warrior’s greatest strength lies not in titles, but in the honor of protecting his own. They believe he is insignificant. They expect him to fail. But as Keinji organizes his ranks and draws his steel, he brings a warning from his homeland to this new world: When the improbable rises and the underdog strikes back... The Snake Will Smoke. - @ChronicaInfinitumRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Esse primeiro capítulo realmente me prendeu.
- BringRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Holy... that was intense.
Seriously, I’m sitting here with goosebumps. The way this chapter transitions from that high-stakes, operatic tragedy in the past to the claustrophobic dread of the present is just chef’s kiss.
The imagery is what really got me. Describing the Duchess’s blood blooming like a "dark rose" against the oak floor? That’s some top-tier prose right there. It’s brutal but strangely poetic, which makes the Duke’s coldness feel even more terrifying. And that "Breath of Flames" line—"nothing left to bury"—is such a chilling way to establish how overpowered and ruthless the opposition is.
What I love most is how the trauma was handled. Ruby’s mental block for eight years feels totally earned given the sheer scale of the horror she witnessed. The "ink-stained mask" of the assassin merging with the face she sees every day in the manor? That is a god-tier cliffhanger. The realization that the monster hasn't been lurking in the shadows, but has been right there in her daily life, is peak psychological horror.
The pacing is spot on, and the emotional stakes are through the roof. I’m definitely hooked. The story is so incredibly compelling and the world-building feels so well-developed that I’m absolutely binge-reading the rest of this. This is the kind of quality that keeps you refreshed in a sea of generic tropes.
5/5 stars.
- Merina_JarasdRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I just started reading this and I have to say, the author’s vibe is what caught my attention first. It’s so interesting to see how they’re going back to the older chapters and completely renewing them. I’m actually curious to know what they looked like before the rewrite, but since I missed that boat, I’ll just appreciate how polished they are now.
I noticed that not all the early chapters have been updated yet, so I’m honestly thinking about holding off just a bit so I can experience the 'before and after' once they’re all done. That kind of dedication to quality is rare.
What really sold me was that note about the protagonist’s background. Finding out he wasn't just a career soldier, but a logistics prodigy who handled massive events in Japan, makes so much sense. It explains his analytical edge perfectly—it’s not just brute force, it's a trained, systemic mind. Seeing him struggle with his 'biological betrayal' as a baby while keeping that veteran mindset is hilarious and well-done. The author’s enthusiasm is contagious, and I’m definitely sticking around to see where this goes! - RonaldoTexasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Critique:
If you are tired of isekai protagonists who reincarnate and receive "cheat skills" without any effort, this webnovel is a breath of fresh air coming straight from the frozen mountains of a specialized Infantry Battalion. Ren Valerius's story isn't about a "Chosen Hero," but about a technical operator inserted into a system he doesn't respect, but perfectly understands how to sabotage.
The Protagonist:
The author did a fantastic job fusing the mindset of a veteran Brazilian sergeant with that of a fantasy prodigy. The differentiator here isn't Ren’s mana capacity, but his Decision-Making Process. While other protagonists would be crying in their cells, Ren is performing Military Physical Training (MPT) and calculating the manor’s waste logistics for a breach. He is pragmatic, cynical, and uses "street smarts" to outmaneuver antagonists who think they are geniuses. The "woof woof" flashback (the broken vase scene) is a perfect bit of comic relief that humanizes a character who might otherwise seem too cold.
The Magic System:
Finally, an author who treats magic as applied biology. The idea that mana causes actual physical trauma (runic fibrosis) if used incorrectly removes that "Plot Armor" sensation where the hero just screams louder to win. The sabotage technique Ren "teaches" the Duke’s sons is one of the most satisfying subversions I’ve read recently on the site. He isn’t giving them power; he’s essentially installing malware into their circulatory systems. It’s brilliant.
World Building and Cast:
The Valerius family dynamic is the emotional heart of the story. Iris’s transition from a gentle mother to the "Eternal Frost" is chilling and gives real weight to the consequences of the kidnapping. The author balances the perspectives well: we see the micro (Ren in the dungeon) and the macro (the geopolitics of Eritineos vs. Dresden and Erinoas). This makes the world feel alive and dangerous, rather than a cardboard backdrop.
Room for Improvement:
My - Selvas BRsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Finally, a "Military Isekai" that isn't just about some guy who knows how to shoot a rifle. The real game-changer here—and what sets this apart from the generic power fantasies—is the Logistics. Seeing the MC (Ren/Keinji) treat the mana system not as some mystical, hand-wavy magical power, but as a complex supply chain with biological bottlenecks, distribution networks, and pressure vectors, is extremely refreshing. It’s hard sci-fi logic applied to a high-fantasy magic system.
The highlight of the story so far is definitely the Vermilion captivity arc (Chapters 11-20). The "Educational Sabotage" dynamic is brilliant writing. Instead of the protagonist getting absurdly OP out of nowhere (which would be a boring, immersion-breaking cliché for a six-year-old), he weaponizes the antagonists' own egos against them. The scene where he "sells" a degenerative nerve injury as "proof of genius" to the arrogant Eduard was pure satisfaction—protag-competence porn at its finest. He isn't just fighting them; he’s auditing them into bankruptcy.
What could be improved: At times, the author leans quite heavily into specific Brazilian Army (EB) references and "barracks slang." While it provides a unique "street-smarts" flavor for those in the know, it might occasionally pull international readers out of the immersion if they aren't familiar with the niche military culture. However, the pacing between the emotional weight of the Valerius family drama and Ren’s cold, calculated survival is well-balanced, maintaining a high level of hype for the inevitable reunion. - SoldirerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly, this work is quite a departure from the usual tropes of the genre. Although it’s the first story I’ve actually read here on Royal Road, I believe it was a great find and I hope it continues! I haven't finished it yet, and I truly hope it doesn't end anytime soon or get abandoned. As a huge fan of anime, I came looking for web novels even though I’m not usually fond of reading long texts. Having seen so many isekai anime, manga, and light novels, I decided to try something different. Even if it’s taking me a while to get through it all, I’m loving the theme—especially the potential development of the relationship between the protagonist and the Vermilion girl.
I’ll be keeping my 5-star rating to help the story gain more visibility, though I believe certain chapters could be improved. I recommend editing the early chapters to add more detail, making them as polished as the current ones. Specifically, chapters 10 through 13 could use more consistent and immersive detail during the battle to create real tension for more critical readers. Since this is the author's first work, I believe the quality is well above average compared to many adapted isekai." - kkmoitisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Wow, this chapter was absolutely surgical! It’s rare to find a "military reincarnation" story that doesn't just fall into the cliché of a protagonist who’s simply a better shot or a better fighter. Here, Ren’s true weapon isn't combat—it’s doctrine.
What really hooked me was the depth of the background the author is giving him. You can tell his efficiency doesn't just come from that 1 year of "grind" in the army; the fact that he went through elite stages like CIGS (Jungle Warfare) and Mountain Training explains why he didn't break under the Vermilions' cold. He has the muscle memory of controlled suffering. But the masterstroke is the Logistics Degree.
Treating the mana channel network not as something mystical, but as a supply chain flow is genius! He identified that the Vermilions have an "operational bottleneck" in their bodies. By teaching the Hyperbolic Spiral, he is essentially inducing planned obsolescence into his enemies' "hardware." He isn't giving them power; he’s increasing the lead time of their self-destruction. The "Flow Dilation Law" is the greatest corporate lie I’ve ever seen in a Web Novel—he’s using management jargon to mask a biological crime.
And that ending with the "Gray Man Protocol"? Ren understands that in logistics, if you can't break the blockade, you become part of the landscape until you find the exit route (the castle’s "waste"). I can’t wait to see how those 4 years of college and 3 years in the market will translate into an escape where he’ll likely "optimize" the transport of slaves out of there using the Duchy’s own process failures.
Favorited and waiting for the next one! This blend of Logistics Management with a Hard Magic System is 10/10. - operraimeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This work is a great way to pass the time. I didn't find the magic system overly complex, even though I had some trouble fully grasping the magic Ren was teaching (avoiding spoilers here). It's a really fun web novel with a bright future ahead!
I love the combination of dark fantasy with the protagonist's slang and inner thoughts—it’s a great contrast. Also, regarding Ren’s current situation, I feel things were made a bit too easy from chapters 50 to 56. I get it, though; it needed something to keep it from getting repetitive. Switching the focus to his brother after that was a good move to avoid monotony, show more of the world, and bring back past villains. Seriously... I can’t wait to see Zhask get defeated. I hate him—the only ones worse are Eduard and Duke Marth.
Anyway, I don’t want to write a massive essay, so here’s what I really hope you improve: add more detail to the battle scenes! They feel a bit short and lacking. I truly hope you can polish that to turn this web novel into a top-tier work. Thanks for the effort!!!!!!!! - pentartRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I don’t want to discourage the author knowing it’s his first story. I think the general idea of the story is good but I think the execution is not on par with it. The author is telling us how the guy is a master tactician after two years of military (kinda short to be a master of anything), but it’s not showing us that. Also maybe cause of the translation but I’m missing most of the humor.
