Description

Being suddenly freed after years of mind control is a bit of a shock. Irina is out of practice with the whole “free will” thing, and has no time at all to figure it out before going on the run. Her friends are still under the sway of otherworldly masters and want to bring her back into the fold. No matter what she thinks of it.

The wilderness beckons, but it holds dangers of its own. The demons that ravaged the land are not quite finished yet, and neither are far more human evils. Magic, combat and cunning might get Irina through this alive, but her greatest challenge may come from within. Can her desire for freedom really defeat years of conditioning?

    Wow! What an action - filled head trip. As always, Eli Freysson presents another excellent read, but this one also really made me think. Given the choice, which provides a satisfying life- freedom of will to help and protect others and live as you see fit, or surrendering free will in exchange for a life without worry, yet even more capable of protecting and defending others. The story draws direct parallels, IMO, to promises made by religious leaders and the decisions facing those who would follow them. Really great read for the adventure aspect and the added psychological conflict makes it worthy of a deep discussion among friends regarding what to take from this story. Definitely give it a read.
