Description
It’s impossible to know what horrors might lurk in the fog.
The fate of everything that roams the Fractured Sea is the same. Anyone who falls into its frosty waters will find themself wandering the waves, trapped in an unwanted eternal life.
Roth doesn't want to join the specters of the waves, but the only way to avoid that fate is to dive right in. Faced with an unfamiliar land where the people are just as dangerous as the eldritch threats hiding beneath the waves, the rookie navigator quickly finds himself overwhelmed. It doesn't help that there an inbound war soon to sweep over the land.
His only chance at survival and strength lies hidden in the fog of the Fractured Sea, an uncharted wastewater littered with both power and those who got lost looking for it.
Uncharted? If there's one thing I'm confident in, it's making maps.

Slow burn, focus on action/adventure over horror.

- chestnutriceeeeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very amazing and very hooking. I've read the story a little ahead of what's here yet and I can say for certain that The Sea of Horrors is quickly building itself up to be a one-of-a-kind tale. Here is a very spoiler free review for all who are considering reading, and if you are considering reading, why are considering it and not reading already?
Style Score:
Really good prose, I like it a lot. The descriptions are plentiful while also being swift. The amount of detail the author brings into the settings without compromising on pace in the slightest is a clear display of his skills.
Story Score:
Extremely intriguing, clearly very well thought out, and filled with a lot of mystery behind the amazingly smooth progression. The setting of the story and the events that go down are so multi-faceted that it leaves a big impression. At the end of the day, a book is made by its story and this one gets 5 on 5 in that aspect.
Grammar Score:
No mistake in sight.
Character Score:
Very realistic, deeply thoughtful and three dimensional characters. With the cast we have on hand the story is already enriched by the people it follows and I can only see it getting better. Way to go.
Highly recommended for everyone who is seeing this review. You don't need to see more of them, just get to reading. - Thanatos125Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book is amazing so far and i know the author is putting a ton of research into it too i have gotten to read a bit farther than what is on RR yet and can say it just keeps getting better! I hope anyone that is interested in it gives it a chance.
- The Omniscient CapybaraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is great, it has horror and progression and good characters. The author even did research to write this novel. I love me some horror stories so I knew I had to hop onto reading this. I also love eldritch horror a lot so when I saw that this story had it, I knew a new story would be joining my follow list.

- AshtelleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a story that hooks you right away with the mystery of a suddenly appearing island when strange things happen right away and send shivers down your spine. I like those types of stories, where there are some secrets and strange things taking place, and you don't know what going on and then suddenly someone kills your friend.
I loved how the chapter about camping ended, with the sense of wrongness, and even more how the booklet and map work. Although I'm not a fan of showing the monster, I would rather not know what's going on and be creeped out even more, or at last not so fast.
The MC is likable and helps you immerse into the story, him being scared makes you also scared. A similar was with the other crew member when I was creeped out when strange things happened to him, but the other two threw me a little off. It has something to do with showing the monster and how they reacted, not being scared of it.
It's written great, with good descriptions and without noticeable errors. Only the first chapter was a little confusing when we suddenly hopped from the MC to captain.
If you like horror and/or mystery, it's a good read. - HirambeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0"The Sea of Horrors" by Oakflame
The story sinks deep and won't release you. Reading ahead, it's shaping up as a true original. This spoiler-free review should jolt any lingering doubts and compel you into the story.
The author's style wields a potent charm and tension, balancing detail, and tempo for an immersive experience.
The story’s intrigue carries the perfect combination for ADHD people lol. Its multi-dimensional backdrop and unfolding events will not let you get distracted by anything else.
No grammar blemish in sight – kudos to Oak.
Characters, are intricately human, and relatable to some extent, not a fan of this aspect of the story. Slight discord in the character dialogue's tone, occasionally mismatched with the era, and tugs at immersion but not enough to downgrade from a 4.
To sum up, "The Sea of Horrors" is a deftly crafted passion pursuit, ripe with forthcoming thrills. As a witness to its unfolding, I can confidently say that this tale possesses a unique and captivating allure. The author's showcases an adept balance between vivid descriptions and a swift narrative pace, painting a world that is both immersive and dynamic. To anyone reading this review, start reading by yourself for a captivating plunge awaits. - NirvanaCallingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is right off the bat a very interesting read because it utilizes short and simple sentences to convey emotions in ways you would never immediately expect. The style is simple enough to be understood by everyone, yet detailed enough that it isn't shallow dribble.
The characters are also written incredibly well, and each one fits to the theme of the story, which as you can tell from the title is horror. If you're looking for a horror novel or a light yet enthralling read, this is the one for you.
A few people might have some issues with the characters, but hey, I'm just an ordinary dude, I like everything with a good story to tell. All in all it doesn't matter where you're from, or who you are. This is quite a deserving work that needs some love on it! Go read go read go read! - Ronathan02Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Note, this is technically for a review swap though I planned on giving this book a read/review regardless. The concept is right up my alley and I was not disappointed.
The Sea of Horrors takes lovecraftian horror, tales of sailors at sea witnessing mysterious eerie creatures, and horror tropes and executes it wonderfully.
The level of detail displayed in this book is fantastic, and does a great job of immersing you into the situations the characters find themselves in. It’s abundantly clear that the author has an understanding of boats and sailing that is felt on every page.
The characters and story aren’t anything revolutionary but are executed to great effect. In particular I love how dialogue is used to give characters a sense of personality early on.
I’ll admit that I don’t have the sharpest eye for grammar mistakes, if it reads well I’m happy with it. The Sea of Horrors reads really well, with short yet descriptive paragraphs. If I had to make a criticism, I’d say that those unfamiliar with ship/sailing terminology might find themselves lost or less engaged in the narrative. That’s to each their own though.
Overall, I highly suggest reading this book if you want something different from the typical stuff you see on RR, I was absorbed by the tone, atmosphere and horror this author conveyed and I’m eagerly awaiting more chapters! - Conrad StokesRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Disclaimer: This review is for a review swap with the author. I have read as far as I can up to this point.
Style/Story: Right away I saw the description of this fiction in the blurb and I was hooked. I am a big Lovecraft/Poe fan, so while I was interested, I was also mentally comparing this fiction to their works. Is it fair to do so? Probably not, but I wanted to be consciously aware of it as I did so. Well, I can say that after reading a hefty chunk of this fiction, it fares well in comparison to even the greats like Poe and Lovecraft.
There is of course that eldritch creepiness that permeates the tone and setting of the story and it is well done. Yet more than that the author spices up the setting with incorporating Native American folklore as actors in this drama. I can’t say how faithfully the author is representing said indigenous lore, but I appreciate that it’s usage adds a new dimension to a genre that often boils down to tentacles and madmen (not that said tentacles and madmen are absent).
Characters: This is probably the weakest point of the story, yet understandably so. Often in cosmic horror there is a sense of a loss of agency for the characters as they encounter powers beyond their comprehension. It is not a negative strike against the author, so much as a key facet in defining the hopelessness of struggling against the cosmic wind.
Grammar: I did not see any typos. I’m not sure if I just glazed over them, but the author did very well in this category.
Overall this is a true to cosmic horror genre story that breathes in new life with previously unexplored or little used concepts. Good story. Recommend. - Rain AmbyllRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5'The Sea of Horrors' is a thrilling and mysterious read that leaves you wanting more. Solid, easy to read prose pulls the reader in and the exestential horror of the deep grips them tight. If you are looking for a great new entry into the genre.
STYLE: Easy to read, straightforward prose make the fiction easily accessable to everyone. Formating is great, with a pleasing mix of paragraph lengths. The desprictions can get a little too detailed, detracting from the sense of mystery at times. The generic title detracts from the amazing cover art a bit as well.
STORY: Solid and interesting, the reader is teased with just enough information to want to keep reading. A quickly mounting sense of horror and dispair lend the fiction an amazing ambiance, setting the scene for the big payoff.
GRAMMER: No issues here, everything is formatted well, punctuation and tense are on point, even the scene changes are clearly marked.
CHARACTERS: Perhaps the weakest part of the book thus far, the characters don't seem to be too bothered by their situation, despite all signs pointing them to the contrary. Perhaps this will change in the future, but until the characters are more fleshed out, they lack soemthing.
Overall, I would totally recommend 'The Sea of Horrors.' Smart, witty and to the point, this is a fiction that stands on its own two feet.
