Prologue: Shadows of the Past, Glimmers of the Future
Death is not an end. I know thisbecauseI’ve lived it. I’ve felt the icy grip of betrayal, the searing pain of loss, and the silent whisper of death as it claimed me.
My name… was Shohei, a man who once walked in the shadows, dispensing justice to the evils of society. I was an assassin—one of the best. But even the best can falter. My wife, the only light in my dark world, fell for another man—a rival assassin. Their betrayal pushed me to the edge, and in a brutal confrontation, she lost her life trying to save mine. In her final moments, she realized her love for me, but it was too late. I held her lifeless body in my arms as my rival laughed, treating her death as nothing more than collateral damage.
I died clutching the memory of my shattered life and the promise I made to myself: if given another chance, I would destroy the assassin and the mastermind who orchestrated my suffering.
Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony.
I woke up, not in the afterlife but in the body of a newborn child. My memories remained intact—every cut, every betrayal, every drop of blood. They named me Nion, a name that feels foreign yet fitting.
My new family consists of a gentle mother, a fiery sister, mischievous twin siblings, and a quiet but strong father figure.
They are kind, yet I cannot help but observe them with the calculating eyes of the assassin I once was.
As the days turned into years, I began to understand the strange gifts this new life bestowed upon me.
My left eye… it sees the future. Visions of what is yet to come flash before me, like the haunting scene of a man shot in a dark alley.
My right eye, however, reveals the past, unearthing memories long buried in the sands of time. These abilities are not the only remnants of my former self.
Despite my powers, I am not without purpose. One vision has become the anchor of my existence: a girl, her face pale and fragile, her life hanging by a thread. I do not know who she is, but her survival has become my goal. I have seen her death, and I will move heaven and earth to prevent it.
But my journey will not be simple. My past casts long shadows, and I can feel the threads of fate pulling me back toward the assassin who ended my life. The mastermind who took everything from me still lingers, their motives hidden in the darkness. My promise to destroy them remains unwavering.
I have started anew, but the weight of my past and the uncertainty of my future are heavy. This second chance is a double-edged sword, a gift and a curse.
I will protect my new family, face the ghosts of my former life, and carve a path through the trials that await me. This world is mine to dominate, and I will wield my powers to rewrite the story fate tried to pen for me.
Yet, as I look toward the horizon, I cannot help but wonder: will this new life bring redemption, or will it be another descent into the abyss?
What does it mean to start over? To carry the scars of a life lost and the hopes of a future yet to be written? My journey has only just begun, but the stakes are already higher than I could have imagined.
A life anchored by vengeance, a family I must protect, and a world where powers collide—can I truly change my fate?
The visions of the future hold answers, but they also bring new questions. Who is the girl I must save? Can I protect those I love without repeating the mistakes of my past? And when I finally stands face-to-face with the assassin who ended my life, will I have the strength to finish what I started?
The shadows of the past whisper, but the future glimmers with hope. My story is one of rebirth, redemption, and relentless resolve.

- Swopnil DasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As a reader, I was immediately drawn into The Fading Star of Tomorrow by its haunting opening and layered protagonist. From the very first chapter, the tone is immersive—late-night skyscraper vistas, internal monologues about justice and loss, and a voice rich with quiet desperation set an unforgettable mood . The transition to Nion’s new life in Chapter 1 provides a stark yet compelling shift: a reincarnated assassin navigating elementary school while hiding a fragmented past .
The contrast between Nion’s lethal past and his present innocence is emotionally striking. His internal reflections—“Quiet, calculating, and observing”—echo with both haunting resolve and youthful restraint . I’m eager to see how the story balances his hidden abilities and memories with everyday school life. Overall, these early chapters promise a poignant blend of supernatural intensity and slice-of-life introspection. A strong start that leaves me hoping for more.
