Sorry, couldn’t help myself. Reviewing at chapter ten. It’s actually a very well done space opera so far.
So, the real draw to me so far is the characters and their dialogue. The cast so far has been Madlad Mims and two pixen sisters that he rescued from a life of slavery. One of which shows her affection very frequently, while the other one is stubborn and defiant and prideful. The constant bickering and humor is well done.
The author’s style is also excellent. He does combat very well, and there is plenty of action.
The story is episodic in nature, and the few episodes I’ve read so far have been well very well done. I could definitely see this being made into a TV series in the style of Farscape or similar shows.
Gramatically, I saw a few punctuation errors and/or typos, but that was it. Not enough to detract even half a star, imo. - Anti The HeroRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Super addictive read. I was bouncing between a few other stories until I picked this one up. Haven't been able to put it down since. It manages to stay on point with how big space is and how long it takes to get anywhere without losing any bit of excitement or momentum. Quite the opposite. Its got everything from epic battles between thousand of ships to alien kung fu fights. If you've got an itch that only laser blasters and plasma cannons can scratch, this will do it.
- Banner CaygeonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a story about a two Pixies who encounter a licensed pirate, privateer, and go on missions and space battles. It's fun. It's well written. It's super enjoyable. It's probably one of the better things on RR.
Grammar: No glaring issues and certainly nothing to detract you from the story. Full marks.
Style Score: This thing is just plain fun. The banter is hilarious, the action is really well described. The science behind it all seems cogent as well. (air locks, dna triggers on blasters etc etc).
Story score: Full marks here too. It's not wholly original but it doesn't matter because it's so well executed. Every episode is it's own thing and you want to read the next one to see what kind of trouble they'll get into next.
Character Score: Full marks here too. Lissa and Yvian are great. Bonus points for making Y a gay character. The banter between sisters feels so natural as well, not always an easy thing to do. The privateer is also really well done and has some nice edges to him. A cowboy of sorts, but with honour.
All in all, this piece is fantastic and you will absolutely enjoy reading it. - Bark TwainRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The first three chapters of your story provide a thrilling and engaging start, combining high-stakes action, strategic depth, and strong character development. The narrative is set in a richly detailed sci-fi universe that captures the reader's imagination and keeps them on the edge of their seat. The blend of humor, tension, and emotional realism adds layers to the story, making it both entertaining and relatable.
The writing style is dynamic and vivid, with a strong emphasis on action and dialogue. The descriptive passages effectively create a sense of place and atmosphere, particularly during the space combat scenes. The humor and wit in the characters' interactions balance the tension and add a light-hearted touch. However, some exposition can feel a bit heavy-handed, and smoother integration of background information would enhance the narrative flow.
The story is compelling and well-paced, with a clear sense of progression and escalating stakes. The initial setup of the sisters' ship malfunctioning, followed by intense space combat training and a large-scale battle with pirates, creates a gripping narrative arc. The strategic elements, such as the use of drones and tactical maneuvers, add depth and realism. The ethical considerations and negotiations with the pirates introduce moral complexity, enriching the plot.
The grammar is generally solid, with clear and concise sentence structures that facilitate easy reading. There are a few instances where sentence complexity could be reduced for clarity, particularly during action sequences. Ensuring consistent punctuation and avoiding run-on sentences would further polish the writing. Overall, the grammar supports the story effectively without drawing attention away from the narrative.
The characters are well-developed and distinct, each with their own personalities and motivations. Yvian's determination and growth, Lissa's resourcefulness, and Captain Mims' strategic mind and ethical considerations are all portrayed - M.G DriverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What a thrill of a read! I had to check the time halfway only to realize I've been reading non-stop for a good while.
The action and adventure is all there, right smack in your face from the get go. No slow meandering start, it's right to the action and I love it!
Style:
The witty dialogue and fast paced nature of the battle really takes me for a rollercoaster ride. I find myself imagining I'm right in the cockpit next to the bloodthirsty human, blasting away and programming ships automatically.
I don't have a very clear image of the aliens or the different ships, but that doesn't detract from the style of writing at all in my opinion. It allows the reader to create his own imagery and it works brillantly.
The chapters are slightly shorter than you would expect, but it's a great way to break up a battle into clear discernable chunks.
Story:
I'm a fan of sci-fi, and I'm more towards the worldbuilding part of thing rather than the action and adventure itself. I must say I find a bit off-putting that the MC is a veritable badass (I love it). But what throws me off is the seemingly unexplained way in how the systems work. A few worldbuilding sentences have been dropped here and there, but I never got the full picture of "okay so this is how the economy, travel, jobs" work.
Especially with the amount of money a privateer makes, I'm surprised there's still people who haven't caught onto the job. It should be the most desireable job in the galaxy, especially with quadrillions willing to risk their lives. Maybe it's because I'm not entirely clear on how much pirates make, or how much a Militia member makes, but they seem to take the same amount of risk and I don't see them getting compensated as equally.
However, worldbuilding is definitely not the focus of this story, and is more of a personal peeve of mine. I'm sure further down the chapters it will be explained further, but it does leave me wondering in the first dozen chapters.
Grammar:
Slick and smooth, no major flaws. - OnicRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Privateer is a high-octane space adventure with space battles, comedy, wholesome moments, and badass moments! The plot will revolve around the cool and endearing Yvian, her charming sister, Lissa, and Mark Mims, or Captain Mims, that human and Madlad Mims. I won't give away the beginning plot, but it's very gripping and entertaining.
The world is well-built, and I would love to explore it. The author carefully guides us through the story with detailed descriptions that immerse you in it.
Style. The writing style is fluid, and the story moves at a steady and consistent pace.
Grammar. I have found no grammatical errors. And I believe that if you didn't notice any mistakes, it means it's perfect—which it is.
Character. We have a diverse cast of characters with varying personalities and goals. The main trio is so entertaining that you'll want to watch them talk, fight, and strategize like glass-pushing geniuses. They each have their own set of strengths and weaknesses that complement one another, making them unstoppable when combined.
Overall. This is more than a great story. It's exciting and fun, with a remarkable first chapter that will hook you immediately and make you press the next button with anticipation, an interesting cast of characters, and an enjoyable ride as you journey through this story's world. Check it out! - RighteousEggRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall
A truly modern science fiction novel. The author portrays the battles in space very well. If you are a heavy science fiction fan, then you can not miss this.

Story
This is a classic space opera scenario. A very interesting universe with a myriad of species, economies, societies and interactions! A well crafted world that can definitely be engrossing. The author's vast knowledge of science fiction makes it almost impossible to find holes in this world. Enjoy this one!
Style
The story is fast paced, but doesn't make you feel abrupt. The text is humorous and entertaining. The author is able to inject some good comedy into the story with snappy dialogue. However, in some cases it does feel like certain descriptions are a bit lacking. The action scenes are well done.
Grammar
You can hardly find errors. The sentence structure is also very good. But the free Grammarly can make your ground grammar perfect.
Characters
I am not a fan of LGB. But that doesn't stop me from giving it a high score. The characters themselves are very likable, and the humor in the conversations is refreshing.
Keep up the good work. I'm only partially done now, but I'll keep my eye on the story. - RoboticGolemRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This might just be one of the best stories I've read recently, and is definitely going in my favourites.
If I had to compare it with anything, it'd probably be a bit like the death worlders crossed with the expanse, with a healthy dose of Stellaris.
May fortune find you on the cusp of the Crunch - cszahnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Pantydropper. I felt like I needed to start this review with the ship’s name that set the tone for this story. Very quickly we are introduced to a concept I absolutely adore - - nobody wants to deal with humans. In fact, I really enjoyed all of the unique species setup in this story. It’s one of the most fun parts of science fiction, and it’s done well here. It’s stylish and well-paced, with engaging characters and action that progresses logically without the impression that the writer is just throwing in non-stop events to keep the chapters running.
The grammatical structure and writing are on point. This is no amateur writer. There’s lewd language, adult situations, and nudity. Probably not for kids, but great for anyone who enjoys a hilarious story with some blue humor here and there. I would not hesitate to recommend checking out this novel if you're a fan of Red Dwarf, Lost Universe, or Hyperdrive. Those are only three series that came to mind when reading this and trying to find solid comparisons. Honestly, action-packed science fiction that doesn't take itself so seriously that it gets bogged down by the science more than the fiction is not always easy to find. - Big HavokRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an extremely well written story. The characters have depth and are very entertaining. The story itself is engaging and keeps you burning through chapters like there's no tomorrow. There are very few errors in grammar and everything is easy to digest. I'm thoroughly enjoying the read, please keep up the good work.
