- MomentieRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Nonpareil of Resh was one of the first webnovels I ever read, and it served as a great gateway. It's mix of familiar ideas and inspirations paired with an author of broad intrests, leads to a series that is easy to read but that knows when to push the envelope more than its contemporaries.
The writer's grammer is almost always spotless making it hardly worth mention. The style of the prose tends to be fitting of the book, it's not the most eye catching in that regard but it allows you to read comfortably which is much appreciated.
Resh's highlights come from its main focuses of characters and world. Protagonist Gwyn Black is refreshing to me. He's not some moody teenager or peppy child - he's a collage student who is muddling through life. A nice guy, but perhaps lacking passion and excitement in his life. His transportation to another world soon suggests you be careful what you wish for. Gwyn is not a static OP character, rather he's a flawed and relatable young man; someone who sometimes lets the fantasy go to his head. He faces alot of hardship, espically in the most recent volumes and seeing where this will lead him is super exciting. The relatablity makes Gywn far more engaging then most protagonists in the genre.
However, while the protagonist, there is a whole cast load more people. Fionna is a princess who doesn't fit in, a spare part in a royal family that hides her secret. Through a villian, Dia, she has begun to accept herself more and is trying to be a better princess. Like Gywn, watching her journey has been really great and the places it could go are enthrallingg.
In general the cast of Resh is what keeps it so fun. A rock-person prince who prefers machines to his fiance, a lizard-person scientisit who seems so alone, a centor-like speicies of warriors one of whom forms perhaps the most reliable combatant of the team - and finally a human of sorts who just wants to provide for his younger sisters. Said races take the oft neglicted fantasy of the is
