I enjoyed the first few sentences and it was enough to hook me into reading more. However, by the fourth paragraph of chapter one, the tense changed from past to present and then switched back and forth a few more times. That was jarring to read, and someone else already left a great comment with feedback about this.
I like the the promise of where the plot is going and I think the author has real writing talent, but the inconsistent tenses make it difficult to read. I took a peek at chapter two, and there appears to be similar grammar issues. I would love to read a more polished version of this book :)
