Project Messiah: Rebuilding Humanity [Kingdom Building]
Community Rating
Description
Humanity was lost. A war with invaders from another galaxy led to humans fleeing their solar system to live in Arks, spaceships capable of housing millions of people. After hundreds of years of constant fleeing and battles with their enemy, the last Ark had fallen. Manusya, the last survivor living inside a carrier ship that escaped the Ark was humanity's last and only hope. His ship had the capability to cultivate life on a suitable planet that would come to be humanity's new home. After a long search and hundreds of cryosleep, he finally found a suitable planet, albeit one that was a gamble because of the unknown energy that was detected from its solar system.
His role was as a steward for the new humans, their guide to a better tomorrow. His ship would reform the lands and introduce flora and fauna to this habitable planet, and Manusya would be awakened from his cryosleep when the new humans were ready for his guidance. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned. The unknown energy allowed mutations to appear in all life introduced to the planet. The unknown energy, called Aether by the new humans, allowed them to manipulate the environment and perform feats beyond that of the previous humans.
Manusya's slumber was cut short unexpectedly when a young boy from a nearby village found a cave near the mountain that hid Manusya's ship. He awoke to a community of people that were colonized and subjugated by a stronger invader. The ship was also in disrepair, and he could not fall back into cryosleep. With his original plans ruined, he must contend with a world not ready for his guidance, and must make a choice on whether or not he should interfere and step into the fray.
What to Expect:
-Technological Uplift
-Kingdom-Building
-Technological Gap
-A focus on culture, characters and society. The one part I dislike about kingdom-building stories is that it focuses too much on the Macro-level and does not dive into people's lives that were affected. I love when we see how people react to new technological development, how their lives improved, and so on.
-A mix of Sci-Fi Space Age Technology and MagiTech (Magic Technology)

- Diabolical GodRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Firstly, I guess you can say that kingdom-building stories don't really shine until you reach like chapter 50 or something, so this is definitely early days (reviewed at 22). This story is also one that takes its time to actually establish a world, characters, and all inhabitants of the main country that we're building so to speak. We have definitely started the "building" part of the subgenre (although maybe 'nation-building' is more accurate, the moniker 'kingdom-building' always seems weird when you're not building a kingdom i.e. kings and shit') and what I've seen so far is pretty damn interesting with a nice dose of technological uplift and that technological gap fantasy of introducing advanced technology to a more primitive civilization and then fighting against other civilizations which are not as advanced. It's a pretty niche subgenre that unfortunately doesn't have a lot of entries in general, so this definitely fills that hole.
The world itself is pretty cool and unique. This is not another medieval European fantasy story of just the typical high fantasy, we actually start with a nation consisting of people more inspired by perhaps native American culture. Although more typical kingdoms do seemingly exist in the wider continent, and they are portrayed as warring imperialist states and colonizers. I think while sometimes fumbling, the story does try to really tackle themes of colonization and its consequences. It's early days for this but it's looking quite good.
The story is great and while the pace is sometimes slower, it's because as I said, it's taking the time to introduce things and make you go into this new headspace. The blend of space age technology with a world of magic is cool as shit as well. Sometimes the story shifts around the place which can be jarring, but I think it sets up that later on, the country itself is a character and all its inhabitants will go about their lives separate from the main character. So I think this is cool since the c - God Of KnowledgeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Has great great potential! Love it. Has scratched the tech introduction itch and the lore is deep. I feel that a great novel has been born. I love it a lot. The tonnes of information and great characters really help me visualize the story. The first few chapters had a lot of information, but now that we are going its become REALLY good.
- RL_Fantasy_fanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I recently found this excellent story, Fantastic worldbuilding with appropriately timed skips to keep the pace, I have enjoyed it greatly. It has been 11 months, so I hope the Author is ok as there have been no updates since the end of the Book 2/arc2. I really hope the author comes back to finish the story so we can see the rest of his vision, if not I could see multiple fanfictions possibly being written to finish the story and his reunification with Sapient. Some author notes indicated he was having some personal life issues so stay in there wordsmith and I hope you can continue.
- seivioletteRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Reaching the end of chapter 14, this has truly been a wonderful experience so far. Unlike typical kingdom building stories, here we have a work which really focuses on the individual rather than the people as a whole. The writer shows a deep knowledge of real world history and religion, bringing it into the story's world. To those equally familiar, this provides extra depth to the events presented. To those new to such topics, there are full enough explanations that you come out of it knowing more about the real world as well as the story world. It is also fascinating to be in a story that is both science fiction and fantasy at the same time, an element which I hope to see devolved further as the story progresses.
Character development is not perfect yet at the end of the first story arc, but is definitely showing improvement. We see glimpses here and there that suggest more is to come from particular characters. This part does, after all, serve as an introduction for the story to come. The events that end chapter 14 should open up the narrative to more character development moving forward.
On a personal level, I am most intrigued by the main character, Manusya; where he has come from and his motivations. He makes choices that I don't agree with, and yet I'm not sure what other choice he has given his situation. Other characters of note are Numa, a young boy who seems to have a gift for learning, and Evui, a young woman victimized for her questionable relationship choices. It is characters like these who keep me reading and make this story definitely worth your time.
The grammar can be incorrect at times, in particular with use of tenses, but this doesn't in any way distract from the story due to the writer's strong writing voice. Writing style is definitely one of the strong points with this story, and provides an experience which is both challenging and a fun read.
I have high hopes for the next part of the story and am excited to see where we go from here. - ColdSunRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This novel has great potential, and I eagerly anticipate seeing its further development. The MC's obliviousness towards the possibility of slavery and imperialism repeating themselves is unrealistic and unappealing, but I appreciate the thought-provoking scenario of new humans seeking an identity. The realization of these events hitting close to home for the MC adds depth and nuance to the story. Overall, I'm excited to see where the author takes this work.
