- cres222Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I absolutely love this so far. I've read up through chapter 16 at time of this writing, and everything about this story is firing on all cylinders.
The characters are interesting and relatable - and this has been maintained as the cast grows. Nora and Rae have been around since page 1. Aleph and Tetora comparatively just got here and I love them and want to know more about them already.
The dialog is quippy, snappy, and entertaining. The interplay between characters keeps things moving. The author does an excellent job of showing us what's going on through the character's dialog rather than telling us in a slog of exposition or internal monologue.
The author's notes add a bit of spice to make each chapter extra nice - a giddy little thrill at a reasonable price. I'm imitating the author a bit here by working song lyrics into my review - she's been doing that in the author's notes and it's positively delightful.
There's a mystery-box element to what's going on with the world of Speranza and how it relates to the regular world that Nora and Rae come from which keeps the reader hooked. I have my theories, but it's not obvious what's going on here. I don't think this is a simple isekai or reverse-isekai, there's more going on. I can't wait to find out the truth.
Overall it's clear that the author is passionate about this story and is really giving it their all. This is a labor of love, and it really shows. Excellent work, please keep the chapters coming! - damienrjamesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is definitely different than what I’m used to, in a good way. I really got into the story when she was conversing with the dark lord. Her character and attitude had shone before, but it wasn’t until that chapter did I see how brave she was and able to handle herself in that strange predicament. She’s sarcastic, but also down to earth and carefree. She has that easy going persona to her, and her friend complimented her character pretty well.
Style: Like I said, definitely different, but in a good way. This reads very slice of life urban contemporary but from the syno and chat with the villain, it proves to be anything but contemporary. It’s fun, easy to read, and it flows well. My only hiccup is the lack of transitioning from one scene to the next. I did get snagged up a few times when jumping into new scenes. Need a cushion to ease readers in.
Grammar: I didn’t find any issues here. Then again I’m not every nitpicky about this category.
Story: Original and zany. Really a testament to trying new and different things.
Overall: A pleasure to read. I haven’t really read much female-lead books, although I should. This one is one you shouldn’t sleep on. - EleshisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: Yes, The Last Rae of Hope is more than worth you time. Give it a look already!
STYLE: So say that our MC, Rachel, has a strong voice would be like saying the sun is a little warm. An understatement so completely off the mark that you'd slap the idiot that said it. This novel's narration is positively oozing with charm. Rachel has a lot to say and makes sure you know her every thought on the things she's witnessing, be they the result her indignation, her joy, or even her anxiety. On the flipside, the portions taken from Rachel's favorite webnovel are so masterfully crafted that I'd believe they really came from retro fantasy novel if you showed them to me by themselves.
STORY: I don't like getting into spoilers, so skimp a little on this section. The story moves along at a nice pace and no moment is wasted. Its easy to read, everything falls into place, and you'll be left wanting to see what happens next at the end of each chapter!
GRAMMER: Immaculate. Not a single issue to speak of.
CHARACTER: I mentioned it before, but the MC is so perfectly believable. Even in the introductory chapters you get to see her at her highs, her lows, and her weirds. The other characters all have strong personalities that bouce off of her well and make for lots of fun interactions. And to again brush on the sections taking place in the web novel, the characters there all feel like they were cut out from a high-grade retro fantasy adventure.
In short, two thumbs up from me! - Lucian T. EinarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0**Overall:**
"The Last Rae of Hope" is a portal fantasy with comedic elements that follows Rachel and Nora as they navigate a world where their favorite web novel comes to life, complete with demons and dark lords. The story is original, zany, and entertaining, offering a fresh take on the isekai genre.
**Style:**
The writing style in "The Last Rae of Hope" has a charming and engaging narration. I find the dialogue witty and the interactions between characters entertaining. However, other reviewers note a lack of smooth transitions between scenes, and I guess this is something you can improve in.
**Story:**
The plot of "The Last Rae of Hope" is original and humorous, with a good balance between real-world elements and fantasy. The story unfolds at a nice pace, keeping readers hooked and eager to see what happens next.
**Grammar:**
The grammar in "The Last Rae of Hope" is immaculate, with no noticeable errors. The prose is smooth and easy to read, contributing to a seamless reading experience for the audience.
**Character:**
There are praise-worthy, relatable and well-developed main characters like Rachel and Nora. More depth in secondary character interactions and a more distinct voice for each character to avoid blending personalities might be make them better. Despite this, the characters are likable and engaging, with the potential for growth and further exploration in future chapters.
Overall, "The Last Rae of Hope" is a fun and engaging read that offers a unique twist on the portal fantasy genre. While there are areas for improvement, such as character differentiation and smoother scene transitions, the story's charm and humor make it a worthwhile journey for fans of isekai and fantasy romance. - LudatanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is written in a very entertaining way. During the reading I often had to smile or had a good laugh. The plot is exciting and draws you in. The characters are very well developed and have unique quirks that make them easily recognizable. For new readers I give as a recommendation to have some patience. The story takes its time to develop and as the summary should already indicate, it is a fantasy story, it just starts in the present time and does not leave it after the first chapter. Even then I find it very exciting to read and you get a good impression of the two main characters. You notice that the author takes his time to develop his story well :D
- Mystic NeptuneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am review swapping but I'm not done. I'm really enjoying this so I thought I'd stop at the 10k mark to write the review. But I'll be back!
Rae's best friend really makes this book for me. I love her and she's my favorite. And having a fun and happy side kick who is COMPETENT is so refreshing. Nora is my people.
Sure the first few chapters are getting the story going, but I actually enjoyed the easy time skip.
Rae is kinda a mess. She's very modern anxiety woman with a lot she's struggled through to overcome and be the strong adult she's trying to be. Nora is the icing on the cake, pinkie pie, social nerd who makes things happen and tries her best. Her choice in fantasy class made me love her even more.
Can we just talk about how much I adore Demon Lord romance? Can I love our evil overlord from his first appearance any more? Move over puppydog priest and give the real male lead the stage thank you haha. 😊
The ladies have stepped through the portal to go save the world. And I'm gonna go find out what happens!
Style Score: I enjoy jumping right into things! It's very engaging while leaving me with questions. And I like the answers.
Story Score: I love the plot, the premise and the world. Things really pick up after we meet the author.
Grammar: no obvious spelling mistakes and a great flow. The flow finds itself very quickly after the time skip. A couple things tripped me up in the first few chapters but that was a me thing. High school is hard for all of us.
Character Score: the characters are all people with great vibe and clear personality. The main pales in comparison to her bf in my opinion, but I think that's set up to show her growth long term. I'm excited to find out.
Also the Gods are so interesting! - Autumn KnightsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story: If you want to read a story that is "fun," then this story is for you! It starts off with a casual feel as you get to know the main character and her relationship with her best friend Nora - their friendship having been built around their mutual enjoyment of a certain web-novel that is soon to be going on hiatus. Getting attached to an unfinished story is a common predicament for us web-novel readers, and what happens next might just be the perfect kind of wish fulfillment for anyone who can relate. You'll understand what I mean once you start reading!
Characters: The author does extremely well here. The likable and unique characters are what makes this story shine. There is a strong bond between Rachel and Nora and their conflicting personalities makes them fun to watch. Nora is the impulsive one and she seems to be a pro at dragging Rachel into situations and getting them both in over their heads. There is a depth to the characterization not just of the main two, but even the supporting characters get enough development to bring their own brand of interest or tension to any given scene. Characters who are not what they appear at first have subtle hints thrown in that make the readers suspicious of their intentions. Of course, as readers we have the advantage of knowing we're reading fiction but for Rachel she can't be blamed for not picking up on the red flags as she thinks she's living in a normal world.
Style: The author makes a good use of subtlety and hooks to plant questions in the reader's mind which will drive your desire to keep reading. There is never a dull moment in this story, even in the more lighthearted slice of life chapters there is a consistent narrative that will keep you scrolling. It is easy to get hooked in and immersed with this story and that is the ultimate sign of a worthy novel.
Grammer: I didn't see any mistakes and the prose is smooth and easy to read.
All in all, this is an excellent read and well worth your time. I can't recom - Thornwell NebullaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: My favourite part of this novel is the characters and how well written they are.
Style: First person, and done well. The descriptions and use of words are excellent. It gets straight to the point, but also gives enough information to satisfy the reader.
Story: the focus on the story seems to be on the main character own character arc/journey right now. Along with some weird connection she has with the novel she is reading. Which took me by surprise, since I couldn't predict what was going to happen, but was still very engaged none the less.
Grammar: I saw no grammar issues.
Character: The main character is extremely relatable in the way she thinks, for some reason, I at times would insert myself as her. Merely in the first chapter, the author did well in adding depth to her and setting up her character arc. Then there are the other characters who are easy to tell apart, and all have depths to rhem. Not a single character seems to be 2D. It shows the author has placed a lot of focus on making the characters seen incredibly real. And thats not just because of their personality, but the circumstances they are in; either finicial or health-wise. Even more, how the mc reacts to stress or other stuff.
If you are a fan of character driven narratives, you WILL LOVE THIS - WilburWoodsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am honestly surprised this does not have more of a following.
The writing feels very polished, it flows well. The pacing is very good. Its really easy to read and there are no lulls or jarring moments to kick you out of immersion. And most importantly its FUN.
As for grammar. Nothing caught my eye, and I'm kind of a stickler tbh. It's well edited as far as I can tell.
Mind you now, its a 1st person story. Hate them or like them, idk. When they're well done I love them. Rachel is very relatable, very cute in her clumsy, flustered way, and I find myself rooting for her. 6 stars out of 5 with the characters. Mainly because Rachel is adorbs. She stays consistent all the way through as far as I read. Reacts to things as you'd expect and gets cute and flustered and blushes and drops things and fumbles. Its just a cute trope and its really well done here. Nora is okay too.
Story is an interesting take on the isekai trope. It definitely doesn't take itself too seriously, constantly giving nods to the reader. That's going to happen when a writer writes about writing. But its fun and insightful. Its a lighthearted story. I say roll with it and enjoy the ride. - Wolfgang HuxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Loving this fic so far!
Some of the highlights include the friendship between Rae and her best friend and the unexpected nature of our demon lord character!
As others have said we have a fantastic MC, great interactions and a rich story with a really cool framing device.
I like how we start with the two friends who enjoy a story together and I won't spoil it, but, we see the importance of both of these things grow as we read on.
STYLE: Easy to read, great pracing and crisp prose.
GRAMMAR: On point, no issues at all!
STORY: Deep and rich and keeps you wanting more!
CHARACTER: An MC you want to root for!
I reccomend this fic :)
