But what begins as an exciting creative endeavor quickly spirals into a quirky, unimaginable adventure when they're whisked away without consent into the very story they longed to save. Now, the two will get firsthand experience dealing with the destructive demon lord who betrayed and banished the heroine during the story's original cliffhanger.

But what if he isn't the card-carrying villain everyone else seems to think he is?

The Last Rae of Hope story is not only a novel written with the utmost love and care by the author, it's also a story unlike any other Royal Road has seen. The clever writing and unique writing style drew me in ever since I saw snippets of it.
The characters are not only well constructed and likeable, they also have clear motivations and excellent chemistry between each other. Without going too much into spoilers, the story makes you believe these are 100% real characters in bizzare situations...

After finishing first book I got no complaints.
We get to see slow growth as Rachel and her team rediscover themselves, well foreshadowed seeds of future plots and conflicts, old incarnations tying up what they left unfinished, good world-building in distinctly non-saccharine world with conflicts that don't revolve around Rae alone, and engaging characters.
End-of-chapter omakes certainly add to overall charm too.

Fun idea for an isekai with a good writing style clearly written by someone who has a good grasp of story structure.
Minor spoiler and the reason I am dropping it: Having someone else posses you isn't disconcering it is a horror. Impropper reaction too events like that are one of my pet peeves.

I stumbled into this one, didn't even know about it. But I will be honest, I'm enjoying it a lot. Especially the discovery of who the MC is. As well as the state of the world. I will admit that the ending for the book 1 felt a bit abrupt but I have enjoyed what I have read and it's been very fun. Thank you for the hard work on this story and I look forward to continuing.

I am honestly impressed by this story.
To start, I read the original work because I was intrigued by the premise; a reverse isekai returning to their original world. When the author decided to rewrite, she did so in a very professional manner; no long hiatus, no drastic rewrites or revisions, but instead a layer of polish and care on her first draft to make it a stronger story overall. I have to give her massive kudos for that!
The plot is an interesting take on the normal isekai tropes; while many are played straight on the surface, there is a subtle undercurrent beneath hinting at things not being as simple as they seem. This actually makes reading the re-write quite enjoyable, being able to identify some of these elements I did not pay attention to on my first read. This, naturally, gives me some confidence that this story will be a good re-read once it is finished.
The characters are also well written, each with a clear voice and personality. The re-write has placed a lot of effort into making the characterizations in the early chapters much more well defined and consistent with how they are portrayed going forward.
The main character, Rae, is also interesting. Writing a compelling, but passive, MC is a challenge. Rae when introduced as purely reactive, often deferring to those around her. However, we are given insight into her mind, and how overwhelming being thrust into a fantasy world is. This grounds her character, making a relatable MC, which gives a nice contrast to the other characters who dive in head first and push the plot forward. Her arc does appear to be set up to change this, but it looks like this is a learning process, not something addressed in the second chapter in.
Overall, this is one of those stories which appears shallow on a surface read (and the ads), but sets up hidden depths to pay off later.

Overall, this is a fun read, very upbeat and strong on the friendship vibes. It has characters you can root for. At this point of my reading, it’s both a straightforward get-the-gang-back-togethter quest, and also a story-within-a-story which means the plot could take a major turn, especially when the major baddie show up in the magical world.
I feel these two aspects play well together, however the beginning chapters might put off readers looking for the quest aspect. If you’re in that camp, I’d recommend reading a few chapters past chapter 11 to get a feel for the magical world part of the story.
Book 1 has several opening chapters: A dramatic flash forward fight scene, a “real world” character introduction, a more-than-a-dream foreshadow, and a time skip that leads to the Isekai event. It’s a lot other ask from a serial fiction reader and it’s a testament to the energy of the writing that, with a bit of time set aside, it’s an enjoyable read.
Part of the enjoyment is because none of these sections aren’t just fluff, each contains new information (some about the magical world) and in each section the main character grows and changes. The other part is that the prose is well written, the dialog is snappy, and there’s no obvious (to me at least) grammar issues.
The benefit to the story’s set up is that by the time Rae and her best friend, Nora, are waking up in the magical world, we’re familiar with the world, conflict, and characters, and we can just appreciate the story going forward. There is some
to get Rae into fighting shape and the required “we can’t really be in the web novel” but both are handled with humor and are part of the larger plot so they don’t derail the action.
As for the story itself: Race is a (mostly) ordinary woman who, along with Nora, gets an internship with an online publishing company where her job is to help an author restart a web novel that has been on hiatus for five years. It’s a strange job, and the author they’re working with is eve
