The Greatest Archmage To Have Ever Lived [OP MC, LitRPG]

Description
Saelthe Great was part of the legendary Heroes' Party that defeated the Corrupted One and brought about the longest era of peace the world has ever known. He stood at the forefront of humanity's greatest triumph, an Archmage without equal whose actions ended an age of darkness. But that was four hundred years ago. Now, most of the people Sael knew are gone. The world moved on while he remained behind, forever young. His name survived in stories and songs, but the man himself retreated to a cloud in the sky—thought dead by all but a few, fading into legend alongside his fallen comrades. Until a young woman comes looking for him. Ilsa is a descendant of one of Sael’s earliest companions, and she’s come to ask for his help. Whispers from the West speak of settlements vanishing overnight, swallowed by a creeping entity that even the mages cannot explain. The stories sound familiar, echoes of an evil Sael thought gone forever. To investigate this threat, he'll need to traverse lands that have forgotten his face, dodge the cults that have formed around his legend, confront all manner of monsters, correct a few misunderstandings, and perhaps even train a student or two as he remembers that life has much more to offer than just smoking on a cloud and longing. Strange things are happening in the world and if the peace his friends died to create is truly at risk, it is fortunate, then, that the greatest Archmage in history is still alive and has more power than any crisis could possibly warrant. *** This story was inspired by One Punch Man, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, The Lord of the Rings, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, among others. I suppose this is not quite helping in the what-to-expect side for some people since these references are all over the place. But to most of you guys, I hope it makes sense. Please enjoy, and thanks for reading!

- Mido_ToRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well, it's an OP archmage trope again. But this tiem, it s better, at least for me. I enjoyed this more, and the story compelled me more. What makes this better for me is the character, which is Sael.
Style - it s good. Overall it is readable and there is nothing that made me lose immersion while reading. The problem I have for this is the author tend to overdescribe things. Sometimes, the author describes a scene, or the MC s feelings in a span of multiple paragraphs, which he could just trim in a few.
Story - it s about a historical OP Archmage. But what hook me is the history and the mystery of this character, and the events that happened during the time he was asleep. It s a bit of a slow burn and pacing is a bit slow, but it s not a problem for me as i like elaborate build ups.
Character - I think this where the story shines. The MC is relatable. From the start, we already know who he is, or how he thinks and acts. He is an OP mage who lacks charisma, and that s what i think is the main conflict of this story, it s his character flaws and not his power flaws. His sidekicks are likable too.
Grammar - nothing much to say. I dont see any errors that breaks my reading experience.
Overall. The story is good fun, in a comedic way, but also some serious aspects. Sael is a good man, just lacks the charisma to show that. Just give him his pipe and his cloud and he will take you to an epic adventure. Will continue readinf more. - Pilipi123Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love this story.Even if you are normally not a big fan of OP MC's i urge you to give this story a try. - MedunRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have to admit, I was quite sceptical in the beginning when choosing this story as my next read through. Reading through the synopsis I thought this will be something similar to max lvl archmage or any other OP MC story, pleasant to pass time but not enough to get fully invested in.
This story is different tho; the characters just feel “whole”, fully fleshed out human beings with personalities and driven by logical thoughts.
we are still at the beginning of the story but if the quality stays the same, I will defenitely stay around! - Daniyell_Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0While I would love a slice of life without the ensuing calamity, I find this book very interesting. The melancholic atmosphere and various struggles our MC goes through draw me to his character. I kinda have some expectations for the younger characters. More for Ilsa than Orion, admittedly. Hoping it'll be a story where they build their own party to face this calamity while our MC remains as a guiding force rather than active participating force. Wouldn't be a bad development but I can only dream. Wish I found this next year so I wouldn't have to wait for new chapters.
- DaotigerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’m really really enjoying reading this book like it’s so entertaining that it has me constantly on the edge of my seat. I’ve been looking for a book like this for a while and its hitting all the points. Awesome. I’m excitedly waiting for the next chapter to began. I’m really sad I couldn’t wait until it hit the hundred chapters before reading. Now I have to wait. Oh well. It’s worth the wait.
- EkacquahRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book is just flat out great. The MC is done extremely well as an OP MC. The context surrounding him being long lived meshes extremely well with his personality. There are the same OP MC tropes that come with the title but this is just done right. He’s not omniscient yet his power allows him to arrive at the answer. He’s not some super charismatic presence that just resolves conflicts to drive the plot. The author shows varying outcomes just due to his unique personality. Yes the MC has trauma from a long life and dark experiences but it doesn’t make up his entire character. The interactions that are illustrated are extremely well done, making the plot flow and move from point to point. The time for action is present and this is masterfully written to really enthrall you with the power of the MC. If that itself is a problem then you shouldn’t be reading this genre. The story is shaping out to be very interesting and I like how there is an ambiguous returning antagonist because it really drives more suspense for what will happen next or when this plot point will be encountered.Overall, the book shines in its characterization of the MC and the surrounding characters. The overpowered aspect of a Mage has always been cool to me and it does this well. The story is great and it’s nice to not have a whiney, snarky, or omniscient character to carry the books identity because that is overly done.To the author, keep it up. This book is phenomenal!
- BayBay22Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't normally like stories with straight up OP MCs like was advertised, but the clear inspiration from something like Frieren (which the author themself points out) gave me the willingness to check it out.I am VERY happy I did! The atmosphere is exactly what I was hoping for, so I can't suggest it enough!
- John smith555Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great writing. mc and side character's are amazing believable emotions and actions. Pretty good world building and backstory. It's interesting to see how much the world changed the significance of the passage of time is pretty significant especially if it's largely his fault. although it early on just chapter 26. Pretty good events, good paysing
- Gatorwill14Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It is a great story if you are looking for an OP MC who also has his own internal struggles and I assume eventually fights where he is not totally outclassing everyone. The humor at most times is elevated and even when it’s not I still find myself chuckling. Really excited to keep reading weekly.
- RiidaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A goated novel in my opinion. The mc is overpowered of course, as revealed in the title, but unlike most novels out here, it doesn’t take the depth out of the read. I would write more but i’m new to all of this reviewing business and want to avoid spoiling the story for yall.
Riida out.
