Description
[A failed Participant in the January 2023 Community Contest: I forgot to fill the form] The world ended. Bam! The Apocalypse opened the gates of Hell, demons killed everyone. Including me. But I got a second chance of life. Though it was as an apple. Which was eaten by a starving survivor, not that I fault them. But to toss my half-eaten core into a landfill? To add insult to injury, an earthquake brought the landfill and everything in it a mile underneath the earth. I guess I'm not in uncharted waters, because good luck finding any nearby. Not that it would matter. I am pretty sure the apple I was reincarnated as was a GMO hybrid whose potential to germinate was as stunted as the empathy of a corporation CEO. So there's that. Also, no sunlight. ** DING **SYSTEM INITIATION!Oh, for the love of all —

- Baaron6Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is the ultimate insult to the genre, thank you for the garbage. The goal of the novel was clear cut and clearly met. I got trolled, enjoyed it, and I'm not a masochist. That takes real skill.
By far what the author did the best was the real morality of the character. I came expecting actual trash in the form of an empty plot and flat desensitized character. I was pleasantly rewarded with insults to that terrible trope too. The author made the story the same way the protagonist was made: trash to treasure.
I did skip a few paragraphs when the power scaling blew up to move things forward, but I respect that the detail was all there to support the events through the end. Honestly, this had to be a lot more work than the author ever wanted to put into it, so more respect for pressing through it. Especially hand calculating for the first half of the story, that had to hurt. If you keep writing LitRPG-style works, please go learn some excel VBA or Google Sheets macros to lessen your pain.
If I had one complaint, it would be the "pg-13" jokes, but I can't exactly lower my rating for that since I was forewarned by the tags, and that is my opinion on media in general, not this specific genre. - Bluelightning42Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a semi mobile dungeon core novel. Portions are spent entrenched in a death trap and portions are spent wandering around.
Piloting mechs or otherwise.
There is plenty of referential humor. A surprising depth and span of information and, above all else, an addictive litrpg filled numbers going up sensation pumping pure amphetamines into your soul.
The system is loose but well defined. It manages to not feel wishy washy or unimportant.
Alll in all I definitely recommend. - CabbagesAndKingsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The soundtrack for this thing is Powerhouse by Ramond Scott, you know, that music in the 40's cartoons whenever they need an out of control factory making killer robots.
A great, goofy concept, piles of inside jokes and references, a fun and engaging system and a protagonist that goes full-on Swiss Family Bobiverse at the bottom of a garbage dump. I imagine a tiny, wrinkled, half-eaten Matt Damon playing the lead role in the inevitable Netflix mini series.
The System is interesting and it's obvious thought went into the perks and progression. The gadgeteering is glorious. But What I really appreciate is that this story is an honest to goodness story. I care about the characters and what happens next. My only concern is that the author is apparently an actual room full of monkeys with keyboards, and I'm not ever going to get a chance to sleep ever again, am I? How the hell does one generate this much good stuff this fast? The quality is great for the velocity, there's the occaisonal odd word choice or typo, but they're hardly notceable and the author has already mentioned an edit somewhere in the future. If you're on the fence and wondering if this one is worth your time, just give it two chapters, and you'll be hooked.
Thank sweet baby Nodens Skip didn't decide to make paperclips. - Coldfang89Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A really fun and enjoyable experience. The author's style of writing is well done and the story itself is both captivating and very funny.
The humor itself is extremely well done and feels relatable, almost as if the author was sitting across from me and sharing the story first hand. The immesion is very done and I haven't run across any points that seem distruptive to my imagination. While many stories on Royal Road are enjoyable, this one truly feels unique and I'm happy I ran across it. - Craig CraigRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you want a zany, frantic, and not so serious parody, then this is the story for you.
There are tons of refrenses, pletny of satire, and a few 4th wall breaks to keep you on your toes.
Despite breaking almost every convention of LitRPG and dungeon core stories, the story is somehow still awesome despite being composed of so much trash.
Give the first few chapters a try, if you like it then you are in for a wild (and fun!) ride.
And best of all, the story is actually complete! - EqualiberatedRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love this so much, So many dungeon core tropes have very slow power creep or try and sneak their way to power, but this totally blows all those tropes out of the water. This story doesn't take itself very seriously, but that's what seriously makes me love this story so far.
- FlowerPower :-)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Don`t judge a book by its cover!
I have done that and pushed it back on my to read list. What a mistake. :-)
(The cover is not much to look at, honestly
One of the best reads for a long time.
Great numbers and charakter development. So many funny references and fittingly (is this even an english word? Dunno, i`m not a native speaker) placed. I`m sure i have`nt even gotten a quarter of it.
The end felt a bit abrupt, but left me satisfied anyway.
Totally worth it! - GlytchedChiqRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is how I want to be able to write a dungeon core fic, but with more ow. And less civ. builder.Yeah, I can't, but this was amazing.Lots of cultural references across different genres and mediums, didn't get half of half of half of them, but saw them anyway, which was cool. Don't know how that got pulled off.Read it on my phone, not signed in, so was super confused when I couldn't rate it. Got on my normal machine just to find it to drop a rating. That's how much I needed to.
- GrahamboginiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This was one of the best novels I have ever read. It is sad to see it end. I hope you continue to write stories because you are so talented at it. Many thanks for the book. I also hope that you will never get rid of thus novel so othet people can enjoy this story as much as I have.
- 1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0In fairness, if you don't appreciate the author's manic sense of humor, or you dislike blue boxes and LitRPG systems, this might not be the story for you. THAT SAID, this is a magnificent work of art, one that compelled me to binge all of the chapters posted as of this review. I don't even like post-apocalyptic settings all that much, but it works quite well for the dungeon core genre. The story's working towards a climactic big boss fight right now, no clue where it goes from there, so I'm quite excited to find out.
