Description

A coming-of-age story of boy who discovers his strength in facing his challenges and meeting the responsibilities entrusted upon him. It is the turn of the century, a time where both science and magic are having a renaissance in the Nation of Ithica. In this era of progress and change, Hektor had the honor of being the illegitimate son of the revered Duchess Sabina, one of the most powerful and idolized women in the nation. Yet despite his ignoble noble-birth, he had a loving childhood and a doting mother. Alas, disaster struck when a ten year old Hektor was abducted in his mother’s absence. He barely survived the ordeal, but at a cost. One that changed him for the worse. Since that fateful day, the fear never truly went away and it holds Hektor back from being whole again. His inner demons suppress his magic and shackle his abilities, turning him weak and into a shadow of what he could be. Years come to pass and Hektor is doing better. He lives alone in the city, away from his mother and the castle. Content with his life of obscurity, he wants nothing to do with aristocrats and their politics. However, with his approaching sixteenth birthday, his life is turned upside down. In a political alliance, he is betrothed to Gwen Croft who is one of the most desirable bachelorettes in Ithica, a powerful wizard, and sole heir to the Croft fortune that spans across nations! But that’s not the worst of it. He is going to be made a Count! Not only does Hektor now have to deal with the drama of jilted suitors of his promiscuous fiancé, he has to prepare for presiding over a county. Failure is not an option. Hektor has to learn quickly to be a competent leader and uphold his mother’s reputation, while keeping the powerful in-laws happy. That is to say nothing of the schemes going on behind his back. There is little time for Hektor to adapt to the battlefield of courtly intrigue. The stakes are high and Hektor needs to keep his wits and meet the expectations set upon him. Can Hektor survive long enough to find his way through to the other side? What to expect: -A slice of life with MC centric narration and multiple POVs adding context to the plot. -An easygoing MC that grows into competence and maturity. -The narration leans more towards a relaxing adventure and political drama. -A steampunk setting of railways and carriages alongside alchemy and enchanting. -Mages and their magic are akin to superpowered and their abilities. Wizards and their wizardry are along the path of performing spells through runic language and foci like wands and staffs. -MC is a weak mage with powers of physique and telekinesis. There will be a gradual increase in his abilities. -There will be romance, but it will become a focus later on.

Highly recommend, I've been enjoying this and look forward to each chapter release. Honestly didn't realize how few folks are following and want to hopefully get this in front of more eyes. It really is a great read. I'm following about 20 books on RR and its not easy to get on the list. Looking forward to how this story continues to develop! Thank you Author!

I honestly should’ve rated this book sooner, but here we are.I like the cast and crew as well as the potential that I see in their development.I love the world building and plot.Hector was more passive than I would’ve liked at the beginning of the book, but He has grown on me as time as progressed and I begin to see his potential as a moving force in the story and the role that his circumstances has and can play in shaping further developing himself.I especially appreciate the authenticity of his internal dialogue and interactions with other characters. His interactions with mother, fiancé,and advisors in particular stand out in the story while enriching the effect that his background has.The supporting characters and the effort that the author has successfully made into to making them authentic and meaningful characters should serve as an inspiration to every aspiring writer on Royal Road and most other platforms.I gained an acute sense of their desires, faults, strengths and struggles and how that tied into Hector and the rest of the plot.NONE of them are dead weight, and that is saying quite a bit for 40 plus chapters in a fantasy drama on this website.

    Oh boy where to start.
Personally, and with no guilt, I'm a sucker for litrpg and blue boxes and numbers and stats.
    This is not that.
This is a story about a boy overcoming a terrible trauma, thrown into a situation he would never thought himself prepared for. Luckily he has a doting mother.
There are spelling errors and a few missing words but nothing glaring or at least in my case.
All in all, if the author can keep up the quality of story this can easily be one of my staple book on this App, I'm excited for what's in store.

Amazing start to the story I'm already invested in Hector and excited to see his first meeting with Gwen. I'll be following this story closely to see how we'll it lives up to its potential. It's nice to see a story that's willing to have a vulnerable main character instead of the usual unfeeling action hero type.

I really enjoyed the read, and the chapters feature interesting characters from different points of view chapters.
It has a Male and Female MC with a general focus on the Male MC.
The Female MC can be a bit abrasive, but I see it as a place for growth for her and story that could be really interesting going into the future.
The story stands out in tone from most Royal Road novels, which I think benefited it and why it hooked me in.
Plenty to explore and we currently have a general idea where the story will go, but it has much to explore, and I am personally very eager to find out more.
    So give it a go.

Brilliant in its simplicity, this story doesn't attempt to be written to indulge in ever evolving stakes and power creeps like many others on RR. Instead this story appreciates the readers intelligence and tells a tale of growth, intrigue and personality - each character worthy of their page time and each chapter a story within itself.
Keep up the good work author, my only strife is the lack of advanced chapters for a quick and selfish reader like myself.

Started reading The Count of Roheim and it’s honestly pretty interesting. The story begins in a mysterious way that makes you want to know more, and the main character seems like he has a lot going on under the surface. The writing is simple but engaging, and the world it’s set in feels fresh. Only a few chapters in, but it’s got that pull that makes you want to keep turning the pages.

Reading this story has been such a breath of fresh air. The world feels truly lived in, each nation, city and even town mentioned has its own culture, history and traditions along with political and socioeconomic conditions that are realistic and coherent. The story and setting simply drips with character and is undoubtedly one of my favourites i’ve ever read on the site. To add such depth to a completely fictional setting is difficult and truly praiseworthy. The plot on the surface may seem cliche but the characters and their developments imo dispel this. Each character is human and their strengths, flaws and disposition are appropriate given each characters history age and other factors. There are very very occasional grammar or spelling mistakes but this is actually quite endearing as it shows that the author is actually writing the story unlike the ai slop that’s become all too common. As Hektor grew and came out of his shell I often found myself smiling because of how invested I’ve become and i’m really excited to see where the story goes. My only complaint would be see a more consistent and frequent upload schedule but that’s just me being greedy.

I binge read through chapter 36 in a day and I'm a fan of the story so far. The author has done a good job with the world building and unveiling the broader plot over time. The characters are fleshed out and I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here. Five stars!

The book is better than i expected.
It is quite different than normal books on royalroad. MC is not power hungry maniac or guy with no fallacy. MC does feel like real person who has been involved in politics against their will.
I really liked that author gave MC sad background but did not keep mentioning in detail what happend or keep stressing the same for max sympathy points
Obviously near death experience impact is shown
I think I would have liked more exploration of mc relationship with his brothers. One tried to kill him and another is exiled with him . A better picture of what he thought of this ( in later chapters maybe intresting)
I would say give it a go.
