- CatressOfNiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is off to a great start! The early stages of the story (and I admit I am father than posted here because I follow the author on Patreon) promise some interesting characters, a thought out magic system with it's own internal logic, and, of course plenty of dramatics. I followed the author here from other stories and so far this one is promising to be just as incredible a journey!
- Chaos JesterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's been a long, long time since I have read a dark academia story that actually sounds promising right off the bat. And luckily, that streak has been absolutely annihilated by The Chronicles of Faylon.
Doubleblind's voice shines through beautifully in this tale so far, blending humor, magic, emotion, and mystery with astonishing skill for the craft of writing. I am truly serious when I say that I am willing for them to give up every other project just to focus on this one. I want more chapters constantly.
The story itself starts out with a bang, dropping key backstory and characterization, mixing plot and story with keep precision. Although I would not mind a bit of spacing between classes, I am also excited to get the gist of them out of the way to delve deeper into the lives of our characters and find out where the story is unfolding to.
Speaking of characters, Saahira is a relatable one, thrown into a world she knew about, but was not expecting to be part of. Cyprus is a natural interest to contrast with her, and I love the fact that she isn't fighting their friendship, like a lot of other stories would. The rest of the cast is wonderful and unique, distinct voices that add their own intrigue to the story.
Overall, this is just an excellent read and I am excited to see where it will go. - Discount DanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Absolutely everything i come to expect from DoubleBlinds other works! The story is so very well thought out and executed from the first six chapters i have no doubts it is going to be just an amazing piece ahead of us!
The setting is just absolutely oozing with this dark and mysterious vibe i never knew i was craving haha! Just about everything and everyone is just absolutely charming in every sense of the word! I really thought Lillith was a fun and unexpected addition to the cast for this early that just “made sense”!
The world is already setting up to be so very interesting along with how just absolutely "real" everyone feels, and how you can just feel the personality oozing from the descriptions of characters and their even mundane actions. I am very excited to see where things head to in future chapters and who/what we get to meet :)!
In terms of the more mundane things involving the work the grammar and editing are great as far as I have seen! Nothing seems out of place and there is nothing that seems to detract from the flow of reading, nor is there anything that makes me give pause, as expected from a professional such as Doubleblind as seen in their other work! - Hahn FederRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Curious where the author will take it. Saahira was fun to read and felt authentic. Fears and hopes felt human, and the first day of class was fun! Let's see where this story goes!A succubus for a teacher is a fun surprise. Who better to teach demonology than a real demon? Is she trustworthy? I mean, a succubus generally has a reputation for exploiting people. The academy is a bold place with a lot of risk-taking. I am curious to see how Saahira develops and survives the trials and classes ahead.Dialing up the heat and the physical responses to the succubus call for lust is in great detail. As a reader, I get to participate and go along for the experience of being in a class taught by a lustful being, a full-fledged succubus! Very nice attention to detail, and I am curious about what other adventures Saahira might have with our newfound instructor. The Choir of demons that are following her about does raise some questions. The writing and style are clean and fun to read. I enjoyed following along and look forward to the next chapter. My only complaint is that I want more! I want more chapters!
- Just BryeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The academy thing has been done. It's been done a LOT. The vibe on this one is something else though. Instead of a supposedly new student yet somehow is OP from the first class you have a small town girl who actually feels like someone who had to borrow the one horse from the next town over and is in WAY over their head.
You don't see that much, and I like it.
Still too early to see if she makes enough allies to keep her head above water, since she is surrounded on all sides (and inside is still a side) by people with their own agendas.
I'm rooting for her. - KingJerkeraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Welcome to another wonderful story from Doubleblind. This one is quite a bit more intense and emotionally charged. The stakes feel so personal and yet the implications hanging around indicate that this one is going to be a story of power. Saahira the main character is a delight! I can’t wait to see who is the rest of the main cast! I can’t wait for more of the characters to show their true colors and begin this plot!
- ND_JackSparrowRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0At the time of writing this review, I have read through chapter 6 via the author's Patreon. There are many magic academy stories in the market, and for good reason: It's a very fun trope to play around with. From what I've read, this one is off to an incredible start. Even just a few chapters in, we've seen a lot of setup for the world, promising a rich magic system and complex characters.Style:Very consistent so far; third-person limited focused solely on the main character. We know what she knows and thinks, and nothing else. The occasions when she thinks back to previous events are easy to follow and do not break the flow of the story.Story:The magic and society of this world pulled me in immediately. We have:- Characters ofmanyraces living amongst each other- The setup for very complex magic systems- A world where summoning demons from other planes is apparently common practice for mages.- An academy where those who are not prepared to tackle the intensity of magical education apparently meet their doom. One element that has been set up so far is the existence of nobles and commoners, with obvious discrimination against those of a lower class. You see this in a lot of stories, and it can be tedious when implemented poorly. However, with how closely it seems to be to the core of several characters we've been introduced to, I am quite willing to see where the author takes this.Grammar:No issues thus far. Everything has been very clear.Character:I've loved the main characters we've met so far.Saahira is an extremely relatable character, trying her best to make her way in an unfamiliar environment. Faced with classes of people she's never interacted with before, she's justifiably nervous; despite that, she is resolute to complete her studies and make her family proud.I'm also very intrigued by the supporting cast we've been introduced to, especially Cyprus. The concept of:a man trying to escape the sins of his fatheris something I always want to see more of in the storie
- PhantomKnight801Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0DoubleBlind does it again!
We kick things off with what already feels like a vivid, well-realized world that takes Dark Academia into a whole new territory -- but one that already has me hooked and intrigued! Saahira comes across like such a well-defined character in just these first two chapters alone, and the same goes for the other characters so far, who have strong voices that come through in the writing.
Needless to say, I'm very excited and encouraged to see where the rest of this story goes from here! More, please! - Rieka_WritesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As a lover of any books with a magical school, this book has me hooked from page one. I also love that Saahira isn't immediately powerful or popular or 'the chosen one'. It feels like there's plenty more with of the story to go without feeling too slow. The pacing is perfect so far.
There's a big cast of characters that are so far complimenting each other perfectly. There's someone for everyone! And their voices are all super distinct so I'm not left feeling confused where there are too many players on the board. Some are... Better than others (personality wise that is) Talia makes my eye twitch and I wish she'd disappear. I know she serves a purpose but she's written too well and I LOATHE her. Cyprus though... he's my beloved. I wanna wrap him in a warm blanket and glare at anyone who talks bad about him!!
The professors are super cool too. I like that they all have a little quirk that makes me desperate to know more. Like what's Lilith's deal? And what's up with the bird that wants to be watered? (Sidenote: please someone water the bird) I feel like I could read short stories just based on the professors back stories and be completely enthralled. It makes the scenes where they're teaching actually interesting to read because I want to know more about them and their subjects.
I could go on about this book for all of eternity. Tldr: READ THIS BOOK! I swear you won't regret it, though you will become addicted. - SilentRhapsodyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I think many of us enjoy the idea of going to school to learn magic and build memories. Few of them do it in ways that feel grounded and mature, however.
Enter Saahira. Her classes have already set the expectation that students can, and will, die if they don't listen to their teachers and check their hubris at the door. Saahira appears to be in over her head and out of place among the others. I very much hope to see some dark twists as the story comes along, because right now I'm having a very good time with it.
Magic should feel powerful. Magic should be dangerous. And so far, that's exactly how it's been implied. I'm looking forward to more.
