- Arlen K.Royal Road★★★★ 3.5Preface: This review is based only on the first 5 chapters. Also note, that the rating can easily be improved.
Story:
It's great! Strongest part of this novel. We see amazing action sees that you can see is very well coreographed. It's in a school setting, which means being told infomation is natural, and there's no massive exposition dump. Very interesting premise with loads of things revealed.
Grammer: 2.5/5 (but this can easily be improved!)
The weakest point of this so far, but it can also be easily fixed. Author, highly recommend you use Grammerly, prowriting aid or any other software. They're free, and SUPER useful. It'll spot things like commas, full stops, and another other minor things.
Style:
The pacing is OK. First chapter, loads of things happen, but in my opinion, the first chapter is the weakest chapter. We see a little head hopping and accidental tense changes, but they're minor things and can be easily retconned. Prose is also a little choppy in the first chapter, but this clearly and visibly improved. The third, fourth and fifth chapters are far superior.
Characters:
Really liking the character dynamic an interactions so far. The trio look like they'll be good friends. They each clearly have their own motivations. For me, I'd want to see emotions explored a little more, particularly having to fight Hugo after his betrayal. It's something that can be shown as the story progresses.
No major antagonist shown yet, but it's early days.
Final comments:
Keep going Author! It's a good premise and interesting story. Highly recommend reviewing the initial chapters. Deffinitely holds promise.
