Description
We called it the Augmentation Array. At first, we didn’t know what it would do; it just appeared in the sky one day, wrapped around the entire planet. But when normal people started showing up with superpowers, we could all make the connection. In the ten years since it appeared, I had managed to steer clear of the Augments as they fought for control over the world, and the world as a whole just seemed to get used to their never ending battles. What none of us could know, could really guess, is that there was so much more to them than we even realized. After stumbling into the middle of a fight between two of the strongest Augments on the planet, I found myself waking up into a world I never could have imagined. Because the truth was, every single Augment on the planet was participating in a game called Infinite Ascension. And it wasn’t long before I found myself waist deep in leaderboards, bikers, and an A.I. that I’m positive is trying to get me killed. Regular Schedule:Mon-Wed-FriWhat to Expect: *A mixture of Crude and Campy humor with nods toward Bronze-Gold Age Super Hero stories.*Chapters no less than 2500 words but sometimes up to 5K.*Lots of Loot Boxes, Achievements, and Crunchy LitRPG stats.*A Sassy AI that slowly mellows out.*A dumb to competent MC (though he's still pretty dumb at times.) - SlappaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Before you dismiss my review because of the war crime of a title, know this - I am not sorry. It was low-hanging fruit, but I still went for it, because it was fun and made me happy to do. Coincidentally, that's how this story feels as well - there's epic insanity, plenty of drama and stakes... But at the end of the day, the goal is to have fun.
- Thane the TreeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It’s a great novel that made me binge all the chapters in one go.To not take too much time from anyone here are my major personal points that I like.-Great character building-World and side characters feel Lift-in and alive-plot is easy to understand but has hidden layers to it-my only negative is that they’re not enough chapters😁now comes the little bit longer version. The story overall is easy to understand but has hidden plot that makes it much more interesting to pay more attention to details and wrap you into the story. The main character feels like any of us that suddenly got thrown into a weird situation, he has slight naïve tendencies but doesn’t shy away to do what is necessary when the situation demands it.The side characters have personality and do not act like yes man/Woman, everyone has their own goals and personality.when it comes to grammar Author is quick to correcting any overlooked mistakes and it is a joy to read.to round it all up I recommend this novel for every marvel or DC fan because it gave me a great hit of nostalgia and giddiness form reading my first comics.
- AlsoJohnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The technical skill used to indicate dialogue as being between system and "our hero", people or our hero having an internal monologue is impressive. It's so well done it's difficult to notice it's being done. The generic "superpowers being thrust upon random individuals, impacting both them and the wider society" take flows smoothly with maximum snark (the sort of continuous put down bonding guys indulge in) (in case you didn't notice that's the gender biased POV I warned I had)It's a fun read. Fast paced, doesn't take itself too seriously but puts in the creative effort not to be same old same old.
- Confused_KanoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The MC makes some questionable (dumb) leveling decisions at first, and the AI in his head is unreasonably annoying, at first, but it all gets explained pretty soon after (and fixed). All the things that seem like plotholes at first, get explained later on. I'm still just now realising why things happened in the first few chapters. You discover things as the MC does, and things click into place as you progress. I can't wait for more stuff to be revealed. So yeah, I recommend if you like superheroes, intrigue, cool adaptable powers, and that general sense of something ominous happening behind the scenes
- AmbergristonesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The numbers, they go brrrrr. The powers, they are super. Friends are friendly and the villains are dastardly. Yes to a low-key romance eventually arising and No to any sort of harem.I don't know what else to say, but I need to have 50 words, so here you go.
- Fatman InParadiseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm a binge reader so I actually read this entire first book in like 3 days because I went back and a reread some of it for reference when I realized I missed something...Like how adding Codex to the saferoom added the the "reroll" option....or for the terrible humor... which I love.In conclusion: This is a great series. And I'm going to devour more as it's published.
- Fire209Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Zane Emerson spins a delightful tale here, one that skirts by the usual pitfalls of the genre with aplomb. While the story is in its early stages, the characters feel distinct and real. While they do need a bit more time to be fleshed out fully, I have high hopes.
The world is intriguing, though we only have but a small lens to see it through as of yet, and I hope to see it fleshed out and explored more. Specifically how the world is seen through the eyes of passers-by. So far spaces feel a little empty, like most people are the 'NPCs' the game terms them as, though this may be a deliberate choice in the story, as it is unclear how exactly the world is influenced by the game.
I am most charmed by the intelligence of the characters- Nate feels clever, if not that book-smart, and Jon, while not fleshed out as much yet plays the convincing role of someone who's clever, but not as flexible in his thinking.
The lower scores in Story and Style have been due to the rapid pacing of the story so far, I would love to see the characters get a bit more room to breathe so to speak, but that is more of a personal preference.
Overall, this is an excellent story that managed to surprise me. A diamond in the rough. - GiorgosIIRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really enjoyed reading this story. The writing was really good. Both grammar and vocabulary was really good. The author knew how to get our characters where they needed to be without it feeiling forced or something else. Our mc is likable if somewhat generic, but he is just plain old good hearted and not an edgelord and I have come to really appreciate such characters as of late. He was a breath of fresh air and added a touch of optimism. The supporting cast was also really interesting and refreshing. Pinky is a beautiful cheerleader with a competitve streak and a highly physical powerset without becoming obnoxious at any point. Swansong is a classic healer/support that has become an extremely rare sight in recent stories and I was pleasantly surprised to see here. I was so surprised that at the beginning of her introduction I kept thinking that she was holding back some serious secrets and planning to backstab our mc. Thankfully, nothing like that happened and I will say it again IT WAS SO REFRESHING READING A CHARACTER LIKE THAT AGAIN. Brain Game and Tempest's Wrath(even through her sheer threat looming) round up an excellent supporting cast. I would highly recommend anyone interested to give a chance to this story
- HawaiiHydraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Normally I'm staunchly against anything that is explicitly Game/ vr is. But this feels like a breath of fresh air. It isn't vr , it's an interesting idea that I haven't seen before. Feels like the movie Free Giy if I really had to reference something. But it ISNT a simulates world...that I know of...so far. It's definitely worth the read though.
- The_Crimson_CowlRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I was late to the game when it came to the LitRPG genre. I'm not gonna lie, I've been missing out. For the last six months, I've been reading litRPG's about isekai, system integration, time travel and divine intervention, just to name a few. Reason I bring this up is because a lot of them have the same thing in common: an innate understanding of the system their bestowed. The reason I bring this up is because The Augment's Code is the first story I've read where the main character doesn't know a thing about what he can do! While he has an onboard AI that could give him a helping hand, it gets it's joy from giving him as much grief as possible. Not only does he have to contend with Snark-Bot 3000, he has to come to terms with the fact that he's got powers he needs to learn, he also need to deal with the fact that he's being thrust into an established superhero society he didn't know existed. My biggest (and honestly, only) beef with the story is the lack of additional character development. It's great that we're getting the skinny on our Main and his quirky AI but we've been introduced to several characters that probably won't be relevant for another 2 or 3 books OR will never be heard from again. This isn't to say that the author doesn't have a plan for these characters, it's just that in the grand scheme of things, when I'm introduced to a new character, I want ro see more of them.Overall, the story is great. I give it a 5-Star Review because while individual aspects of the story aren't to my specific likings, I can't deny that when brought together it makes for a very memorable read.Hop on the Augment Train, Let's GOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
