- RegarRenillRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is great so far. Interesting premise, likeable protagonist, enough LITRPG elements to give solid info on progress without having a blue screen every couple of pages. I am loving how the author is blending 21st century info into the future / medieval fantasy setting. I cannot wait to continue reading this story here on RoyalRoad!
- Cpt ObviousRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is not your usual isekai story. No seriously, it isn't.
Even so it may seem so at first. And that's because it is an isekai story after all.
Confused yet? No you aren't, but reading this story you will get there eventually. But don't worry, that's a good thing.
My subjective feelings when reading the story is that it paints brightly colored images. The prose paints with a saturated color pallet and the images it fills my mind with are beautiful, even when they take me to places of utter horror and despair.
The world itself is something of a cross between Middle earth, Monster Hunter, Space: 1889 and Call of Cthulhu. Expect fantasy and steam punk and you won't be all that surprised by the world. At least not for the first fifty or so chapters.
But beware you've already stepped through the mirror and is about to discover that wonderland isn't what you expected...
I started reading this many moons ago. Some chapters in the story took a darker than usual turn and I threw it on the pile.
Then a couple of weeks back I got a advert for the story again. As I was about to add it to my read later pile I discovered that the button at the top of the fiction page said "Continue" instead of "Start reading". Curious...
Well it dumped me somewhere like ten or twenty chapters in, and I realized I remembered why I'd put it away, but very little of how I got there. So I did the only rational thing when confronted with a book I put down as it took a turn I didn't appreciate. I started from the first chapter once more.
That's what you're supposed to do right? Repeat the same thing over and over while expecting a different outcome...
When I got to the point where I gave up last time I had the exact same reaction as the first time. Big surprise right?
Well, having expected that I had decided to read at least two more chapters to see if it really would go where I thought it would. And I'm glad I did, as it didn't, and yet it did...
Nope, not explaining that. You'll just have to read i - Forsaken FryRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I guess I'll start with a disclaimer. The Armorer and the Infinite Dungeon is the first LitRPG story I've seriously read. Sure, I've dabbled from time-to-time, but I'm 57 chapters in and plan to keep going because this story has bundled up my attention and held it hostage.
You know... but in a good way.
Overall, I've found the MC to be believable, original, and while intelligent, she also has some serious flaws that are definitely going to get her into trouble. I can't wait to see her get into them. The supporting and mentor characters are likewise believable, especially when you consider the breadth of the world the author is skillfully shaping and those characters' place within it. That world, its many cultures, and how it's all going to blend into an epic tale has me excited.
Like others here, I have found the magic system to be a little difficult to comprehend at first, but I find the nuances of it to be a fresh change from the standard. No longer is agility or dexterity simply related only what we expect. The system isn't perfect, but as the MC figures it out, we'll see some tweaks or additions by the author refining and addressing the things that may not have worked as originally planned.
I find the author's voice and style to be strong and easily understood with a good descriptive balance that doesn't bog down the pacing. I also enjoy the 'snap' of the chapters. Grammar and spelling in the first 57 chapters have so far been strong and consistent.
Keep it up author. You're doing an excellent job. - HiIamSilverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I found this a few weeks ago and have been making my way through. I love it so much, the art is so beautiful, the picture of this world painted is so fantastic, and Juni is so cute ❤️
It's optimistic, funny, full of likeable characters that are allowed to have things go well for them without it ever feeling like the stakes are low. Highly recommended. - crackheadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0well I do like the story would love to say more but will need more . I see this is a fresh point of view to rebirth in a new world and I like what I see. The art is sweet love it!!! as you wright more for us to read I and others will have more to review for you and don't wory I see some that give a down vote just give one not because they want give a review to tell you why
- BenevolentChaosRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5One of the most overall impressive stories I've read on this site in terms of the overall scale of the setting.
Fair warning, the early arcs and the species the MC turned into have something of a very different appeal than much of what happens in the later chapters.
Overall I really enjoy this story, but past a certain point the pacing and scale of the story ramp up and- okay, a core theme of this story is Infinity, which means that the sense of scale of the setting, if not always the central conflicts, will occasionally get ratcheted up quite abruptly.
I can understand why the author does it, and I even enjoy most cases of it(sometimes moreso when experienced slightly independent from each other).
I suppose, the thing I take issue with, is that the same thing the author uses to kick the scale up and whisk us and the MC into sudden and usually high-stakes situations is what makes the pacing hard to read through if you binge too much of this story at once. - AkmedrahRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0TLDR: The character is good, but it only feels like a vehicle for more world-building! I recommend reading if you like long, complex plots!
So I enjoy this story; the world-building is great, and I enjoy the depth of the plot. My issue is that I feel that the character never has that 'a-ha!' moment where you feel their character development take hold or affect their decision-making.
It is almost as if the character is simply a byproduct of all the world-building that happens around her. This is not necessarily bad, but it did leave me feeling as if there is something that the character needs.
Overall, I still enjoyed the story and would recommend that you read it. - RTorranceRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The writing is solid and character is sensible. Grammar has been immaculate from what I have seen and I am legitimately curious to see where the story leads.
My biggest complaint is actually around some of the naming/magic system and how it seems to actively fight against the readers preconceptions.
Main character has been shown that they can build a basic exosuit in a garage? Except it relies on the reader to have existing knowledge about non-powered exoskeletons to understand that all it is doing is sacrificing some range of motion in order to let her carry 15+ kilos of lead shielding.
Then she's given a system with the classic stats of strength agility etc. Except that she magically knows how to resculpt them from minute one and they have largely have nothing to do with their original purposes.
'Agility' is now magic wind powers and potential space manipulation. 'Dexterity' is now somehow being tied to mind control?
It might come to make more sense, but at the moment there hasn't been the world building to justify it and instead it reads strangly and pulls me out of the narrative.
P.s. the art is amazing. I really do love it though again it sometimes fights my minds image/expectation of them living on the side of an infinitely deep hole - falling_waterRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I liked the introduction to the main character, and initially thought the setting was interesting. The author also has a fairly good understanding of science and technology, and uses that understanding in the story fairly well.
There's a lot going on in the setting, and I was interested to see the details explored more, but instead of doing that, the author gets bored and needs to talk about something completely different, entire different worlds. Things start getting...wacky.
The author also uses Stable Diffusion to make a lot of AI art that's used in the story. I suspect that in a lot of cases the art is generated first, and then the story is changed to use that art.
The main character gets stronger over time, and the enemies are always stronger than the main character, and the author likes progression. - ImacrazyllamaRoyal Road★★★ 3.0This story got me hooked in just a couple of chapters. The mc is interesting, the ideas it had were novel and unique, and a lot of story beats in the earlier chapters of the book hit the mark in a very good way. The addition of art definitely helps sell some of the stranger images in the story, and besides a few that looked a bit awkward, could be downright beautiful.
But I am still conflicted about the story, (spoilers ahead). The initial chapters after the mc gets to the city are wonderful and are a good lead in to what will be happening later. But after that a lot of the plot points seem to be picked up and then almost entirely forgotten about. A lot of the impact of is taken out of a scene when it's the fifth major problem that the mc has had, that were then almost immediately resolved.
Without getting any deeper into it, too much happens in too short of a time, and always has major effects that change the story drastically to the point of being unenjoyable. If the author could have stopped themselves from overloading the story with major story beats that don't do much but exhaust the reader. It would be much more enjoyable.
But, the prose is good, a majority of the characters are interesting (with the cast being a little overloaded) and the ideas about the world are unique and engaging.
