Description

Hated by humans. Hunted by monsters. Neska will prove that strength comes from more than defeating foes. Neska Aksen knew early on she was different from other snakes, spending her days giving mice big hugs and reading her witch's tomes in a rustic potion shop. A test ritual unlocked her Interface, revealing this was not, in fact, her first life, but a second chance to combat horrific monsters invading their world. She soon discovers her Interface grants her the evolutionary powers of monsters and the powers of human Classes, something no one else has accomplished. But her presence doesn't remain unnoticed. Neska and her witch are soon threatened by those who fear Awakened like herself, forcing her to flee toward Rivilat Academy of the Awakened, a refuge that shelters and trains others like her. Their goal: to bring the fight against the invaders. With little to go on but a steadfast determination and powers from both halves of her soul, Neska will have to find allies and gather power to survive in this world, and find a way to stop the monsters once and for all. But the hardest choice of all will be what direction her own soul will pull her toward: humanity, or those they're supposed to be fighting against? What to Expect: * Weak to strong FMC with snake evolutions and witch hexes, rituals, and alchemy.* LitRPG adventure with Abilities, Attributes, and Titles.* Logical, knowledge-driven MC that explores her powers creatively, and rallies friends and allies to fight together, undeterred by insurmountable odds.* Battle academy setting, with school life, combat, and interpersonal moments of the MC and the core cast.* Snake hugs. I'm really liking the story so far. Non-human MCs have always been my favourite, and even though I know from the cover art that Neska will evolve into a naga at some point, that hasn't happened yet, and the combat scenes as a snake are pretty good.
The writing feels smooth, and the system skills/abilities are flexible enough to feel more like proper magic and less videogame-ish.
It's been mentioned that the system doesn't necessarily give power to people, it just facilitates stuff they would've been able to do themselves if given enough time and knowledge - so I really hope we'll see Neska develop her own abilities in the future.

this book is lovely because there are a challenges mentally and physically, I truly love the advanced combat and the author doesn’t rush anything that’s really big(for example, they do kind of skip them eating rats or catching them)
furthermore, they don’t focus too much on combat or talking civilization and the travel but they focus on three things and separated to make it so the book isn’t too focused on one thing in particular

This story hooked me because it takes a very modern fantasy flavored witch concept, mixed it seamlessly with a monster evolution story, and actually makes it feel grounded and coherent in-world. The MC’s connection to the bloodline of Ouroboros feels less like some grand mythic destiny and more like an unsettling personal reality, but always makes you feel like the potential is there. She knows she’s a monster tied to something ancient and dangerous, but at this stage it’s more uncomfortable than awe-inspiring. That tension between what she is and where she came from works really well.
The magic system is firmly in the modern progression fantasy lane. This is not an old folklore-style witch story. It’s hexes, curses, blessings, alchemy, and structured growth rather than fairy-tale ritualism. If you like litrpg-style magic translated into a narrative without hard stat walls everywhere, this hits a nice balance between system clarity and story flow.
Progression moves at a good clip and stays engaging. Power increases are frequent enough to stay satisfying without feeling weightless, and the story keeps a steady sense of forward momentum. Growth feels rewarding to follow without the narrative getting bogged down in unnecessary suffering for its own sake.
The character work is a standout for me. The MC is easy to follow emotionally, and her reactions feel natural instead of scripted to force plot beats. Supporting characters feel like real people with their own motivations and flaws, not just background tools for the protagonist’s development.
Tonally, the story leans heavy into doom, danger, and looming catastrophe, but that makes the emotions and moments of subtle humor really stand out. Those scenes land harder because the world is so bleak. The contrast works, and it keeps the story from becoming emotionally flat.
Overall, The Apprentice of Ouroboros is a strong progression fantasy with a modern witch flavor, good character focus, and a satisfying sense of momentum.

This is a surprise drop from a generally reliable author, and is looking like a good return to form, style-wise.
The story so far is just getting started, but it is starting fast with clear direction. Of more interest are many hints about past events; this looks like a case of being dropped into an ongoing, complex story alongside an equally clueless protagonist. The implied "get strong and defeat temu sauron" plotline looks suspiciously like it may derail or grow unexpected complications.
If it is anything like the author's previous works and story hints so far, there will be a large non-human cast and likely unusual but classic-fantasy-learning world.
The cast is currently tiny, but looks like it will expand quickly, if the protagonist actually ends up where they intend to.
Of note is that the protagonist is a local reincarnator, with currently unknown significant history. She seems to be competent and rational, if a bit overwhelmed and currently lacking arms.
The prose is straightforward and easily understood without being flat; not art, but if you dont notice it, it must be doing it's job. Also no weird formatting, excessive repetition, or other common webnovel quirks.
I noticed no spelling or grammar issues so far, and have not seen many in the author's other recent writing.
I will try to return and expand this once there is more to actually review

Incredibly promising. This definitely shows the polish that comes with a seasoned author, with a clear voice and good editing. If you're into litrpg's and are looking to get into monster Evo, this seems like it's gonna be a good entry point. Will update this review as I read more.

When I started reading, I was delighted with the work. The beginning was very dark, even somewhat reminiscent of the best creations of dark fantasy, a gloomy spiral that spins more and more and keeps you in suspense -great. And then the academy comes...and you realize that everything you liked about the work was an accident. This is an easy work for the inexperienced reader. Of the advantages, the author is not a beginner and the text itself is well written, an original interesting world. Unfortunately, that's all, forgive me Neska, we didn't get along.
